PAK-A-SAK THANKSGIVING CLASSIC • NOVEMBER 25-26 • CANYON, TEXAS

COMING UPThe Buffs continue their homestand this weekend as they host the 2016 Pak-A-Sak Thanksgiving Classic at the First United Bank Center with Wayne State College, Southern Nazarene and Eastern New Mexico taking part in the event. WT will take on Wayne State College at 2:30 p.m. on Friday afternoon followed by a Saturday matchup with Southern Nazarene (2:30 p.m.) while Eastern New Mexico takes the court at 12 p.m. on both days.

- SCOUTING THE FIELDWAYNE STATE COLLEGEJeff Kaminsky is in his first season as head men’s basketball coach at Wayne State College. He was named the 27th head coach in the program’s 102-year history on June 15, 2016.

The Wildcats enter the weekend with an overall record of 1-2 following a 94-87 overtime loss to #18 Augustana in their NSIC opener on Monday night. WSC topped Missouri Western in their season opener before falling to Northwest Missouri State.

Wayne State is led offensively by Kendall Jacks who has gone 18-of-20 (60%) from the floor including 8-of-12 (75%) from the free throw line to average 15.0 points per game while Jordan Cornelius averages 10.3 points per contest. The Wildcats have gone 74-of-171 (43.3%) from the field including 21-of-63 (33.3%) from deep and 46-of-68 (67.6%) from the free throw line while grabbing 31.7 rebounds per contest and scoring 71.7 points per game.

Friday afternoon will mark the first ever meeting between West Texas A&M and Wayne State College.

SOUTHERN NAZARENEAdam Bohac begins his ninth season at the helm of the Crimson Storm after guiding Southern Nazarene through its first two years of postseason eligibility in NCAA Division II and Great American Conference play.

The Crimson Storm enter the weekend with an overall record of 2-2 following a GAC win over Ouachita Baptist on Saturday afternoon. SAU

has a win over Minnesota State Moorehead with losses to Northern State and Henderson State so far this season.

SAU is led offensively by Deshon Portley with 15.8 points per game followed by Noah Starkey (14.8) and LB Willis (13.5) while Starkey leads the team with 7.8 rebounds per game. The Crimson Storm have gone 112-of-243 (46.1%) from the floor including 24-of-74 (32.4%) from deep and 64-of-88 (72.7%) from the free throw line while averaging 35.3 rebounds per contest and 78 points per game.

Saturday afternoon marks the first ever meeting between WT and Southern Nazarene.

- A LOOK BACKOPSU RECAPWest Texas A&M scored 105 points for the third time under head coach Tom Brown and tied the highest point total since 2009 on Tuesday night as 13 different Buffs scored in a 105-66 win over Oklahoma Panhandle State in front of over 600 fans at the First United Bank Center.

The Buffs went 40-of-68 (58.8%) from the floor including 11-of-24 (45.8%) from deep and 14-of-20 (70%) from the free throw line to go along with 38 rebounds (13 offensive, 25 defensive), 24 assists, 21 turnovers, three blocks and 20 steals. Dre Evans led all players with 22 points as the freshman went 8-of-12 from the floor followed by Joseph Prince and Jordan Evans with 12 points each while David Chavlovich led the Buffs with six rebounds. MOVING ON UPJunior guard David Chavlovich is quickly making his way up WT’s all-time career scoring list as the Arlington native has scored 1,222 points in his 66 career games in Maroon & White to average an impressive 18.5 points per contest. Chavlovich’s 6 points against Oklahoma Panhandle State on Tuesday kept the guard in 6th place all-time to pass Mike Mitchell (1967-69 – 1,197) while sitting just 5 points shy of Maurice Cheeks (1975-78 – 1,227) for fifth place and 8 points shy of former teammate Tez Dumars (2011-15 - 1,230) for fourth place all-time.

THE LONE STAR CONFERENCEThe Lone Star Conference expands to 10 basketball-playing institutions starting in 2016-17 as Western New Mexico (Silver City, New Mexico) and UT Permian Basin (Odessa, Texas) join the league. Each team will play a double round-robin conference schedule with 18 conference games. The Allen Event Center will host the LSC Basketball Championships for the sixth straight season on March 2-5.

LSC PRESEASON PLAYER OF THE YEARWT junior guard David Chavlovich was nearly a unanimous selection to be named the third LSC Preseason Player of the Year in program history, joining Rod Prater (2003-04) and Donald Sims (2012-13). The Arlington native was named a National Basketball Coaches Asso-ciation (NABC) All-American as a sophomore as he led the LSC in scoring with 20.5 points per game. He set a new program single-sea-son record in three-point field goals made (111) and three-point field goals attempted (287) while joining the 1,000 Point Club and being named the Lone Star Conference Player of the Year. The Arlington native has also been named a Preseason All-American by Sporting News and the Basketball Times while making an appear-ance on the Division II Bulletin Super 16 list.

Tom Brown was hired on April 16, 2014, as the 17th head coach in WT men’s basketball history.

In just two short years Brown has turned around the West Texas A&M University Basketball Program. Brown led the team to its first 20+ win season since 2010-11. The Buffs were picked to finish 5th in the LSC this past season and despite a pre-season, season ending injury to sophomore starter Carl White the team still managed to finish 2nd in the LSC with an overall record of 21-10. The 2nd place finish is the highest since the conference was split North/South. The Buffs continued to battle minor injuries throughout the year but every player that was called on would step up. Under Brown’s di-rection the team had some very strong individual performances. WT sophomore guard David Chav-lovich led the way. For his outstanding play David was named an NABC All-American, the Lone Star Conference Player of the Year and 1st Team All-LSC selection. Sophomore Jordan Evans (playing in his first season) received honorable mention All-LSC acclaim. The Buffs again were dominate in the classroom as the team GPA exceeded a 3.0 for the year.

2015-16 the Buffs set a new record in the class-room. The team recorded the highest GPA for Men’s Basketball in a season.

Coach Brown inherited a WT team that won two games in the LSC and 10 games overall in 2013-14. Brown had to start from scratch in late April, the team had three seniors and one walkon redshirt freshman. Just three student-athletes saw playing time from the previous year and the team was picked to finish last in the Lone Star Confer-ence Preseason Poll. However, under Brown West Texas A&M University finished the season 5th in the LSC and posted a 17-12 overall record. The Buffs made the LSC Tournament as the fifth seed. There were some individual accolades as well, all three of the returning seniors improved on their scoring average from the previous season. Tez Dumars surpassed Maurice Cheeks in WT All-Time scoring and finished his career ranked 4th All-Time in scoring at WT. David Chavlovich was the squads leading scorer, 2nd Team All-Conference Perform-er and the Freshman of the Year in the LSC as he averaged 16.5 points per contest to go along with 93 assists and 30 steals.

In 2014-15, the Buffs set a new record in the classroom. The team recorded the highest GPA for Men’s Basketball in a season.

Tom was the driving force as the Associate Head Coach and head recruiter in the most successful Division II men’s basketball program in recent history at Winona State University. The Warriors won the NCAA Division II National Cham-pionship in 2006 and 2008 and finished as the National Finalist in 2007. During that span, Winona State posted an unprecedented 105-6 record. WT Assistant Coach Quincy Henderson played for Coach Brown from 2005-2008. Quincy’s record as a collegiate player at WSU was 105-6.

Named Division II Bulletin’s ‘Program of the Decade’ for 2000-2009, WSU set a NCAA Division II record with 57 consecutive wins, a run that began on Jan. 13, 2006, and didn’t end until the national title game on Mar. 24, 2007. The 2007-08 Warrior squad won a NCAA record 38 games.

An excellent recruiter and teacher, Brown recruited and developed some of the best players in the nation with three National Player of the Year recipients, along with seven first team All-America honorees. 11 players total have earned All-America status including WT Sopho-more David Chavlovich. Brown has coached five NSIC Most Valuable Players, seven NSIC Defen-sive Players of the Year and two Elite Eight Most Valuable Players.

Brown is doing it again at WT as David Chav-lovich has earned both Freshman of the Year and Player of the Year in the best Division II Confer-ence in the Nation, the Lone Star Conference.

Brown attended and played basketball (1988-1992) and baseball (1991) at Winona State University. He finished his Warrior career ranked fifth in program history in scoring, second in assists and first in steals. He earned his bachelor’s degree in 1993 in physical education and completed his master’s degree in education in 1998.

He and his wife Dr. Trisha Brown are the proud parents of three children, TJ, Zach and Ella. Dr. Brown is currently an Instructor and works in the Sports & Exercise Science Department at West Texas A&M.

The Buffs went 28-of-64 (43.8%) from the floor including 10-of-24 (41.7%) from deep and 20-of-28 (71.4%) from the charity stripe to go along with 37 rebounds (nine offensive, 28 defen-sive), 13 assist, seven turnovers, two blocks and nine steals. Evans led the way for WT with 20 points followed by Chavlovich (16), Walton (14), White (13), and Quaid (12) in double-digits while Quaid ended the game with 10 rebounds for a double-double.

Azusa Pacific went 23-of-57 (40.4%) from the field including 9-of-26 (34.6% from long range and 17-of-23 (73.9%) from the free throw line to go along with 40 rebounds (10 offensive, 30 defensive), 13 assists, 20 turnovers, two blocks and four steals. ORANGE, CA - West Texas A&M junior guard Jordan Evans scored 20 points for the second straight contest as the Buffs shot 50 percent from the floor in an 83-70 win over St. Cloud State during the CCA Division II Tipoff Clas-sic at the Santiago Canyon College Athletics Complex in Orange, Califor-nia.

The Buffs were led offensively by Ev-ans with his second straight 20-point performance followed by White with 17 and Chavlovich with 15. Walton, Chavlovich and White grabbed six rebounds each while Chavlovich dished out five steals. WT went 29-of-58 (50%) from the floor including 11-of-25 (44%) from deep and 14-of-28 (50%) with 36 rebounds (nine offen-sive, 27 defensive), 17 assists, 13 turn-overs, two blocks and three steals. The Huskies were led by Davis with 23 points followed by Scottie Stone with 16 while Davis grabbed eight rebounds on the night. ORANGE, CA - The Buffaloes of West Texas A&M are off to their best start to a season since 2012-13 thanks to an 11-0 run in the heart of the sec-ond half as WT outlasted #23 Arkan-sas-Fort Smith, 94-86 in the finale of the CCA Division II Tipoff Classic at the Santiago Canyon College Athlet-ics Complex in Orange, California.

The Buffs were led by Walton with 24 points followed by Chavlovich (19), Evans (17) and Golightly Jr. (10) with double-digit points while Chavlovich led WT with six rebounds and three assists. WT went 33-of-65 (50.8%) from the floor including 10-of-29 (34.5%) from deep and 18-of-27 (66.7%) from the free throw line to go along with 37 rebounds (13 offensive, 24 defensive), 13 assists, 13 turnovers, five blocks and three steals. UAFS was led by Thomas with 20 points and five rebounds followed by Youngblood with 19 and Parker with 14 points and a team leading six rebounds. The Buffs were led offensively by Chavlovich with 21 points as the junior went 5-of-12 from the floor including 4-of-6 from deep while Evans (18), Quaid (15), Walton (10) and White (10) scored double-digits for WT. WT went 27-of-65 (41.5%) from the floor including 10-of-25 (40%) from long range and 26-of-31 (83.9%) from the charity stripe to go along with 46 rebounds (15 offensive, 31 defensive), 13 assists, 15 turnovers, six blocks and seven steals. Fort Lewis was led by Blaylock and Bach with 21 points each to tie a game high while Farris finished the game with 15 points. CANYON, TX - West Texas A&M continued their best start to a sea-son since 2012-13 as they remained unbeaten with a 92-77 victory over the visiting Cowboys of New Mexi-co Highlands in front of 782 fans at the FUBC in Canyon during the LSC/RMAC Challenge.

The Buffs were led offensively by Chavlovich with 22 points to run his career point total to 1,190 to move into seventh place all-time to pass former West Texas State standout Sim-mie Hill (1967-69 | 1,189 pts). WT went 28-of-57 (50.9%) from the floor includ-ing 9-of-27 (33.3%) from deep and 25-of-36 (69.4%) from the free throw line to go along with 39 rebounds (nine offensive, 30 defensive), 17 assists, 14 turnovers, two blocks and five steals. Highlands was led by Woods with 19 points followed by Lawton with 15 and Johnson with 11 while Lawton grabbed 10 rebounds for a dou-ble-double. NMHU went 23-of-58 (39.7%) from the floor including 1-of-8 (12.5%) from deep and 30-of-41 (73.2%) from the charity stripe to go along with 38 rebounds (12 offensive, 26 defensive), eight assists, 12 turn-overs, two blocks and five steals in the loss.

LUBBOCK, TX - WT trailed by as many as 27 points in the second half be-fore putting together an incredible comeback but a hot shooting effort by Lubbock Christian gave the Chaps the victory, 95-86 to hand WT their first loss of the season in front of over 400 fans at the Rip Griffin Center in Lubbock, Texas.

The Buffs were led by David Chav-lovich with a game high 26 point fol-lowed by Joseph Prince (16), Jordan Evans (15) and Skyler O’Laughlin (10). WT went 27-of-72 (37.5%) from the floor including 11-of-39 (28.2%) from deep and 21-of-31 (67.7% from the free throw line to go along with 37 rebounds (18 offensive, 19 defensive), 13 assists, 16 turnovers and 11 steals. Lubbock Christian was led offen-sively by Brennan Fowler and Tyler Rogers with 17 points each followed by Ja’Qualyn Gilbreath (14), Ridrell Holman (12), Jay Workman (11) and Marcus Arrington (10) in double-digits while Fowler grabbed a game high 13 rebounds for a double-double. LCU went 32-of-52 (61.5%) from the field including 6-of-12 (50%) from deep and 25-of-30 (83.3%) from the charity stripe to go along with 38 re-bounds (four offensive, 34 defensive), 17 assists, 25 turnovers, one block and five steals.

The Buffs went 40-of-68 (58.8%) from the floor including 11-of-24 (45.8%) from deep and 14-of-20 (70%) from the free throw line to go along with 38 rebounds (13 offensive, 25 defen-sive), 24 assists, 21 turnovers, three blocks and 20 steals. D. Evans led all players with 22 points as the freshman went 8-of-12 from the floor followed by Prince and J. Evans with 12 points each while Chavlovich led the Buffs with six rebounds. OPSU went 22-of-48 (45.8%) from the field including 6-of-16 (37.5%) from long range and 16-of-24 (66.7%) from the free throw line to go along with 22 rebounds (five offensive, 17 defensive), 10 assists, 30 turnovers, three blocks and 12 steals. Brooks led the Aggies with 18 points followed by Kerr with 17 while Brooks grabbed 10 rebounds for the double-double.

2015-16 (Sophomore):Chavlovich, the 2016 Lone Star Conference Player of the Year, registered one of the single best seasons in WT Basketball history in 2015-16. He finished his sophomore campaign with 634 career points to rank second all-time in program history behind Damien Lolar’s 650 points in 2006-07. The Arlington native set a new program single-season record in three-point field goals made (111) and three-point field goals attempted (287). The Arlington native joined the 1,000 Point Club back on February 10th with 25 points in a loss at then #25 Midwestern State. Chavlovich went 205-495 (41.4%) from the floor including 112-287 (39%) from deep and 112-147 (76.2%) from the free throw line to go along with 111 total rebounds (3.6/game), he led the LSC in minutes per game (32.8) while dishing out a team-high 95 assists to go along with four blocks and 27 steals on the season. Chavlovich was named a 1st Team All-LSC selection while picking up All-Region accolades by the D2CCA (1st Team) and the NABC (1st Team). Chavlovich became the third player in program history to be named a NABC All-American joining Damien Lolar (2007) and Robert Lee (2008). 2014-15 (Freshman):Chavlovich made an immediate on the court as a true freshman, not just within the team, but the league as he was named the Lone Star Conference Freshman of the Year in 2014-15. He led team in scoring and ranked second in the LSC with 16.5 points per game while leading the Buffs and ranking fourth in the LSC in 3FG% (.391, min. 20 attempts). He also led the team in FT% (.791), and led team and the LSC in minutes per game (32.8). He scored a career high 33 points on against Harding (Nov. 28). He finished the season ranking fourth in 3FG’s made in a single season in the WT record book with 93 and second in 3FG attempts with 238. He also made his mark on the single-game WT record book as he ranks fifth in 3FG’s made in a single game after making eight on against Mid-America Christian (Jan. 2). Chavlovich was named 2nd Team All-Lone Star Conference for his efforts on the court.

At Bowie High School: Chavlovich, a 5-11 guard, came to Canyon following a standout prep career at Arlington Bowie High School (Texas) where he was named the District 3-5A Offen-sive Player of the Year as a senior, averaging 15 points per game for the Volun-teers to lead the team to the Texas 5A Regional Finals to finish the season with a 27-6 overall record. Chavlovich was an All-Region selection while also being hon-ored with an invitation to the Dallas County/Tarrant County All-Star Game along with the Elements of a Champions All-Star Game.

2015-16 (Junior):Golightly Jr. had a breakout junior campaign for the Buffs as the Chickasha native saw time in 31 contests with 16 starts as he averaged 21.4 minutes per game. He went 65-142 (45.8%) from the floor including 21-58 (36.2%) from behind the arc and 76-96 (79.2%) from the free throw line to go along with 99 total rebounds (3.2/game). Golightly Jr. dished out 50 assists to go along with five blocks and a team-leading 40 steals. He scored a career-high 19 points against Wayland Baptist (Dec. 12) where he went 4-5 from the floor and 9-11 from the charity stripe. At Murray State College: Golightly Jr. joined the Buffs following two standout seasons at Murray State College (Oklahoma) where he averaged 13.8 points per game as a sophomore in 2014-15 where he shot 53 percent from the floor while ranking in the Top-100 in NJCAA with a 42.3 field goal percentage from behind the arc for the Aggies under head coach Chris Megill.

2015-16 (Sophomore):Evans had a big sophomore campaign for the Buffs in 2015-16 as the Houston native saw time in 31 games with 15 starts as he averaged 19.3 minutes per game. He went 142-318 (44.7%) from the floor including 89-219 (40.6%) from long range and 60-70 (85.7%) from the charity stripe to go along with 138 total rebounds (4.5/game). Evans dished out 20 assists to go along with 10 blocks and 20 steals. He registered a career-high 30 points against then #10 Tarleton State (Jan. 23) as he went 7-8 from the floor, 6-6 from deep and a perfect 10-10 from the free throw line in a 78-61 victory. Evans registered his first career double-double at Okla-homa Panhandle State (Dec. 1) as he finished the game with 10 rebounds and 17 points. For his efforts on the court, Evans was named an Honorable Mention All-Lone Star Conference selection. 2014-15 (Redshirt):Evans redshirted for the Buffs during the 2014-15 season.

At Northern Oklahoma College: Evans came to West Texas A&M from Northern Oklahoma College where he was coached by Greg Shamburg. The Jets fin-ished the 2013-14 campaign with an overall record of 21-7 as they advanced to the NJCAA Region II Tournament as coach Shamburg was named the Region’s Coach of the Year.

2015-16 (Sophomore):Gove had a breakout sophomore campaign for the Buffs in 2015-16, seeing time in all 31 contests with 18 starts on the season as he averaged 25.1 minutes per game. The Minnesota native went 32-101 (31.7%) from the floor including 23-73 (31.5%) from behind the arc and 22-30 (73.3%) from the free throw line to go along with 82 total rebounds (2.6/game). Gove dished out 77 assists on the season to rank second on the team to go along with 28 steals and a block. He set a new career high with 11 points against Southwestern Christian (Jan. 26) as the sophomore went 4-5 from the floor including a perfect 3-3 from long range. 2014-15 (Freshman): Gove saw time in all 29 games as a true freshman for the Buffs in 2014-15. He averaged 2.3 ppg and 17.7 minutes per game and tallied 42 rebounds, 34 assists, and 18 steals on the season. He scored a season high 10 points in a win at Nova South-eastern (Dec. 18).

At Waconia High School: Gove joined the Buffs following a standout prep career at Waconia High School (Minnesota) where he was coached by legendary head coach Patrick Hayes III. 2015-16 (Junior):Prince had a great first season in Maroon & White as a junior in 2015-16, seeing time in 28 contests for the Buffs as he averaged 15.9 minutes per game. The California native went 65-186 (34.9%) from the floor including 22-85 (25.9%) from behind the arc and 26-38 (68.4%) from the charity stripe to go along with 54 total rebounds (1.9/game). Prince dished out 40 assists on the season to go along with three blocks and 13 steals. He made an immediate impact as the junior scored a team-high 20 points in an exhibition game against Texas Tech (Nov. 9) in Lubbock in his first game as a Buffs, going 7-13 from the floor including 4-8 from deep. Prince registered a career high 16 points at Cameron (Jan. 10) as he went 6-13 from the field including 4-7 from behind the arc to go along with six rebounds and two assists. At Volunteer State/Antelope Valley College: While at Volunteer State JC in 2014-15, Prince averaged 9.4 points, 3.9 assists, 1.1 steals, and 2.4 rebounds per game while shooting .411 from the field, and an impressive .373 from beyond the arc. 2015-16 (Freshman):Quaid had a breakout true freshman campaign for the Buffs in 2015-16, seeing time in all 31 contests with 16 starts as he averaged 19.6 minutes per game. The Colorado native went 90-174 (51.7%) from the floor including 5-21 (23.8%) from behind the arc and 75-113 (66.4%) from the free throw line to go along with 133 total rebounds (4.3/game). He dished out 33 assists on the season to go along with 21 blocks which ranked second on the team while registering four steals. Quaid scored a career high 16 points in Canyon against Texas A&M-Commerce (Feb. 17) as he went 5-11 from the floor and 4-6 from the charity stripe, he tallied his first career double-double against Cameron (Dec. 31) with 12 points and 11 rebounds. At Fossil Ridge High School: Quaid came to Canyon by way of Fossil Ridge High School in Fort Collins, Colo. Under head coach Matt Johannsen. As a senior, he was named the Front Range League (FRL) Player of the Year as he averaged 18 point per game while breaking a school record for rebounds in a single game (22) and in a season (284). Following his senior campaign, he was chose to play in “The Show”, a Colorado All-Star Game hosted by the Denver Nuggets. As a junior, Quaid led his high school squad to a 27-1 overall record and runner-up finish in the Colorado State Boys Basketball Tournament, ranking as high as 14th nationally in the MaxPreps Freeman Rankings. Quaid also played club ball for Billups Elite 17U and is coached by Elton Davis.

Gerber dished out 26 assists on the season to go along with four blocks and 12 steals. He made his first career start against Nova Southeastern (Nov. 27) during the Pak-A-Sak WT Thanksgiving Classic and he followed that up with a career-high 15 points the next day against Emporia State as the sophomore went 5-8 from the floor including 3-5 from behind the arc. 2014-15 (Freshman):As a redshirt freshman in 2014-15, Gerber saw time in 28 contests for the Buffs. 2015-16 (Sophomore):Walton registered a strong sophomore campaign for the Buffs in 2015-16, seeing time in 27 contests with seven starts on the season as he averaged 24.2 minutes per game. Walton went 80-181 (44.2%) from the floor includ-ing 8-27 (29.6%) from behind the arc and 93-143 (65%) from the charity stripe to go along with 146 total rebounds (5.4/game). The Wisconsin native dished out 69 assists on the season to rank third on the team while leading the Buffs with 29 blocks to go along with 28 steals. Walton had a break-out game on February 3rd in Canyon as the sophomore went 6-9 from the floor including a perfect 14-14 from the free throw line to score a career high 27 points for the Buffs. Walton registered his first career double-double in Canyon against Lubbock Christian (Nov. 19) as he finished the game with 10 rebounds and 11 points.

At Madison Area Technical College: Walton was no stranger to athletic honors in his first year at Madison Area Technical College. Walton was named a first-team North Central Community College Conference (N4C) member and a first-team NJCAA Region IV all-region athlete in his freshman season. He also picked up all-region tournament honors after helping the Wolfpack win 20 games en route to a successful and deep run into the national tournament. Walton averaged 16 points, 7.3 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 1.5 steals, and 1.5 blocks per game during his freshman campaign at MATC. He also shot 45% from the field and 31% from the perimeter.

At Mequon Homestead High School: Walton graduated from Mequon Homestead High School where he played volleyball as well. There he earned honorable mention all-conference accolades and earned a spot on the WBCA All-Star team.

He led the team and ranked third in the LSC in blocks per game at 1.3 (37 total) while totaling 149 rebounds, 116 on the defensive end, 42 assists, and 32 steals.
