The National Federation of Paralegal Associations, Inc. (“NFPA”) is pleased to announce that James Hills, has been selected as NFPA’s 2014 Paralegal of the Year.
Legalman 1st Class James Hills, assigned to Commander, Carrier Strike Group 11, was named Paralegal of the Year by the National Federation of Paralegal Associations. Mr. Hills currently serves as Vice President of the Carrier Strike Group 11 First Class Pe^y Officer Association. Mr. Hills is noted as constantly tasked with the hardest assignments because he succeeds where other paralegals fail.
He possesses an unparalleled commitment and intelligent obedience to the U.S. Navy, the Judge Advocate General Corps, and the individual Sailor. Mr. Hills was hand-‐‑selected by the aircraft carrier USS Nimig (CVN 68) to serve as their Legal Department’s supervisory paralegal during a demanding 8-‐‑month deployment to the Middle East in 2013, where he effectively supervised the timely processing of hundreds of cases and actions involving the rights of Sailors and Marines on board. He also scheduled, organized, and led training for 12 legal officers responsible for 5,000 personnel in various nuances of administrative separations, non-‐‑judicial disciplinary actions, and non-‐‑punitive measures against service members. Mr. Hills designed and implemented a system of records management using a comprehensive legal tracker reducing required man-‐‑hours.
Upon conclusion of deployment, Hills was awarded the Navy Achievement Medal for his unquestionable self-‐‑discipline during an extended deployment and reduced manpower. He also earned the Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist designation, a device that reflects a level of qualification above and beyond the normal level of professional and performance criteria necessary for his job duties. He obtained the Navy Operation Fitness and Fueling Series Certification, and now focuses on supporting holistic approaches to overall wellness education for a healthy and sustainable lifestyle.
NFPA is a non-‐‑profit professional organization representing more than 8,500 paralegals and is headquartered in Edmonds, WA. NFPA’s core purpose is the advancement of the paralegal profession. NFPA promotes a global presence for the paralegal
profession and leadership in the legal community.
