1 Internet Connection

1.1 How Can I Quickly Configure the WS319 to Gain Internet Access?

Start Wizard is provided to facilitate Internet access.

You may use your mobile phone, tablet, or computer to configure the WS319 for internet access. The following section describes how to configure the WS319 on a computer.

Step 1 Log in to the web configuration GUI.

Step 2 Choose Home > Start Wizard. Select your Internet connection mode.

The following table provides reference information to help you select the connection mode.

Scenario Connection Mode

You do not know what form of Internet access you subscribed to.

Connect automatically

You received an account and a password for Internet access from your Internet service provider (ISP) when subscribing to the Internet service.

Connect with user account

You did not receive an account and a password for Internet access from your ISP when subscribing to the Internet service. The IP address is automatically assigned by the ISP.

Connect without user account

You received an account and a password for Internet access from your ISP when subscribing to the Internet service and you want to establish a dial-up connection for only one computer.

Connect with another modem

1.2 How Can I Configure a Static IP Address for Internet Access?


Step 2 Choose Home Network > LAN Interface > DHCP Reservation.

Step 3 Click create new static address.

1.3 Why Can't I Hear Sound from a QQ Video Call When a WS319 Is Used?

Step 1 Check whether the voice port is connected.

Step 2 Check whether UPnP is enabled on the WS319.

1.4 I Have Only Two Computers Connected to the WS319 but the Network Speed Is Low. Why?

Check whether your computer is downloading files, playing videos online, or running other bandwidth-consuming applications. Open the Task Manager. In the Process tab, check whether P2P programs like PP-Stream, QvoD, and Funshion are running. These network applications may exhaust your bandwidth reducing your network speed.

Use antivirus software to check whether the computers suffer from viruses or other network attacks.

Check whether bandwidth limitation is configured on the WS319. If yes, disable bandwidth limitation and check whether the network speed becomes normal.

The problem may be contributed by the broadband operator's network. Disconnect the

WS319. Use a computer with dial-up access and check whether the network speed becomes normal.

1.5 Does WS319 Support MAC Address Cloning? How Can It Be Configured?

Yes. The WS319 uses the MAC address of your computer to connect to the Internet. For example, you use a computer to access the Internet. The MAC address of your computer is bound to your network account by the ISP. When you use a WS319, it clones the MAC address of your computer and uses this address to pass the identity authentication so that several computers connected to the WS319 can access the Internet at the same time.


Step 2 Choose Internet > Internet Settings > Internet Profiles.

Step 3 Select Clone MAC address.

2 Wireless Network Connection

2.1 What Can I Do When I Forget My Wi-Fi Password of a WS319?

Before restoring your default settings, you are advised to check your Wi-Fi password on the web configuration GUI.


Step 2 Choose Home > Set Up WLAN.

Step 3 Select Show password.

2.2 Does WS319 Support Bridge Mode? How Can It Be Configured?

The WS319 supports WDS bridge mode that allows you to set up a wireless connection between WS319s to enlarge network coverage.

Step 1 Query and record the wireless MAC addresses of the two WS319s.

Log in to the web configuration GUI. Choose Home Network > WDS Bridge > 2.4GHz Frequency Band. Select Enable .The value of WLAN MAC Address, such as EC:23:3D:E0:5E:B4, is

the wireless MAC address of the WS319.

Step 2 Set WLAN parameters of the two WS319.

Log in to the web configuration GUI. Choose Home Network > WLAN Settings > WLAN Encryption. Set SSID, WPA encryption mode, and WPA pre-shared key. The values of these three

parameters must be the same for the two WS319s.

Click Advanced Settings and set the same Channel value for the two WS319s.

Step 3 Configure the WDS function of the two WS319s.

Log in to the web configuration GUI. Choose Home Network > WDS Bridge > 2.4GHz Frequency Band. Select Enable. Set Remote bridge MAC address to the wireless MAC address of the other WS319.

You can also click Scan and choose the wireless MAC address of the other WS319 from the displayed list.

2.3 How to Synchronize Wi-Fi Parameters for Multiple Huawei Wi-Fi Devices in My House?

Your WS319 supports smart coverage. When you have multiple Huawei devices that support smart coverage at home, such as Huawei wireless routers or wireless expanders, you can use smart coverage to enable these Huawei devices to synchronize their wireless settings and form a larger wireless network. This means your devices will automatically connect to the strongest wireless network whether you are in the living room, study room, or bedroom.

For example, you have a WS319 and WS 331c at home. After you enable smart coverage on both devices, they synchronize SSIDs, Wi-Fi passwords, encryption modes, and other Wi-Fi parameters.

Step 1 Enable smart coverage on WS319.

Log in to the web configuration GUI. Choose Home Network > WLAN Settings > Smart Coverage. Select Enable smart coverage.

Step 2 Enable smart coverage on WS331c.

Log in to the web configuration GUI. Choose Maintain > WLAN Settings > Synchronize WLAN Parameters After

Expansion > Synchronize Uplink WLAN Parameters > Enable Smart Coverage. For detailed information, see the product description of WS331c.

When you change Wi-Fi parameters of the WS319, the WS331c automatically synchronize these changed Wi-Fi parameters.

2.4 Where Can I See the List of Devices That Are Using My Wi-Fi?

Perform the following steps on the web configuration GUI.

Step 2 Choose Home > Check My Network Status.

2.5 My Wireless Connection Randomly Drops Off. What Can I Do?

Check whether the WS319 cable is connected properly. Check whether domestic appliances producing a strong magnetic or electric field are

around your WS319 and computer, such as microwave ovens, refrigerators, and cordless telephones.

Check whether your WS319 is placed in a wide-open space. Such obstacles as wood or concrete walls will block radio signals and reduce signal strength.

Check whether your computer is far away from your WS319. Check whether your WS319 and computer are placed at a proper angle.

3 Wireless Network Security

3.1 Can I Hide My Wi-Fi from Others? How Can It Be Configured?

Perform the following steps to hide your Wi-Fi from others:


Step 2 Choose Home Network > WLAN Settings > WLAN Encryption.

Step 3 Select Hide broadcast.

3.2 How Do I Change My Wi-Fi Username and Password? A name and a password are necessary for accessing a Wi-Fi network. Regularly changing your Wi-Fi name and password increases the security of your Wi-Fi network.


Step 2 Choose Home Network > WLAN Settings > WLAN Encryption.

Step 3 Reset your SSID (user name).

Step 4 Reset your WPA pre-shared key (password).

3.3 I Want Only Specified Computers to Access My Wi-Fi. What Can I Do?

You can specify computers that are allowed to access your Wi-Fi LAN by filtering wireless MAC addresses.

Step 1 Connect a computer to the WS319 through the WLAN.


Step 3 Choose Home Network > WLAN Access > WLAN Access Rules.

Step 4 Click Only allow specific computers in the WLAN.

Step 5 In the Managed LAN devices area, select your desirable computers.

4 WS319 Maintenance

4.1 What Is the Address of the Web Configuration GUI? What Are the Login Username and Password?

These messages are printed in the WS319 label.

Address of the web configuration GUI: 192.168.3.1 or mediarouter.home Username: admin Default password: admin

4.2 What Can I Do If I Cannot Open the Web Configuration GUI?

Step 1 Ensure that your computer is connected to the WLAN provided by the WS319.

Step 2 Ensure that the computer IP address is 192.168.3.*. (* is an integer ranging from 2 to 254.)

Step 3 Open Internet Explorer. Choose Tools > Internet Options > Connections > LAN settings. Ensure that all check boxes are deselected.

If the problem persists, restore the WS319 to its default settings.

4.3 I Cannot Open the Web Configuration GUI Using the Address 192.168.3.1. What Can I Do?

Try the domain name "mediarouter.home".

4.4 How Do I Restore Default Settings? 1. Using the WPS/Reset button

Press and hold the WPS/Reset button for over 6 seconds when the WS319 is powered on. 2. Using the web configuration GUI

4.5 How Do I Change the Password for Logging In to My WS319?


Step 2 Choose Maintain > Account Management > Modify Login Password.

4.6 What Can I Do When I Forget My Password for Logging In to My WS319?

Press and hold the WPS/Rest button for over 6 seconds when the WS319 is powered on. The working parameters of the WS319 and the password for logging in to the web configuration GUI are restored to their default settings.

4.7 How Do I Automatically Turn off the LED of My WS319 at a Specified Time?


Step 2 Choose Maintain > ECO Setting > ECO Setting.

Step 3 Select Enable ECO LED.

Step 4 Specify the time you want the WS319 LED to automatically turn off.

4.8 How Do I Automatically Close My Wi-Fi at a Specified Time?


Step 2 Choose Maintain > ECO Setting > ECO Setting.

Step 3 Select Enable ECO WLAN.

Step 4 Specify the time you want your Wi-Fi to automatically turn off.

5.1 What Are the Specifications of the External Power Supply of WS319?

The WS319 may fail to work if the output value of an external power supply is less than 12 V/0.5 A.

5.3 How Many Devices Can a WS319 Support to Share a Wireless Network?

The WS319 supports access of up to 32 Wi-Fi devices, 16 of which can be on guest networks. However, the actual number of devices supported by a WS319 varies with the interference in a wireless environment.

5.4 Does WS319 Support DHCP? DHCP server is built in WS319. You can enable or disable the function by choosing Home Network > LAN Interface > DHCP Server on the web configuration GUI.

5.5 Does WS319 Support IPv6? No

5.6 Can the WS319 Bind the IP Address to a Client MAC Address?

Yes. You can bind the IP address of a WS319 to a client MAC address by choosing Home Network > LAN Interface >DHCP Reservation on the web configuration GUI.

5.7 Does the WS319 Support UPnP? Yes. You can enable or disable the function by choosing Home Network > LAN Interface > UPnP on the web configuration GUI.
