DirectionsFrom the M54 heading west, exit Junction 7 Wellington B5061 to the north. Turn right at the end of the slip road, and after 100 yards left towards Atcham and Wrockwardine (B5061). After ¼ of a mile turn right towards Wrockwardine on Drummery Lane. Once in the village of Wrockwardine, turn right at the end of Drummery Lane. At the church turn left and the 1st driveway on your right is Wrockwardine Hall.

SituationSet behind the 13th century church in the rural village of Wrockwardine, Wrockwardine Hall is a handsome bay front Georgian house set in mature gardens.

Wrockwardine is a pleasant village with an active local community situated between Shrewsbury and Telford, and only a few miles from the M54 and access to the national motorway network. Intercity trains from Stafford provide excellent access to London, Birmingham and Manchester, which also have international airports.

Shropshire has a wealth of good schools both in the independent and state sector including The Shrewsbury School and High School for Girls, Adams Grammar and the High School for Girls in Newport and Wrekin College in Telford. Good preparatory schools in Shrewsbury such as Prestfelde and Packwood Haugh in the Shrewsbury area.

HistoryWrockwardine Hall stands on the site of the original manor house, which dates back to 1066 and is described in the Doomsday book as belonging to the Earls of Shrewsbury who retained it until it was confiscated by the Crown from the outlawed Earl Robert Montgomery. At this point King Henry I gave the hall to his wife, Queen Adeliza.

Rebuilt in 1628 (as marked on the chimney stack) by the Earls of Shrewsbury, refaced and extended in 1750 to include a seven bay Georgian front, Wrockwardine Hall has a grand history to match its appearance. From the early eighteen hundreds the hall was owned by the Cludde family and the Earls of Powis.

More recently the Hall has been in the hands of the Military. Leased by the War department from Colonel Henry Herbert in 1948 and subsequently bought in 1958, Wrockwardine Hall has been the home of many Generals and other high ranking Army officers.

DescriptionWrockwardine Hall is a beautiful Grade II* listed Georgian house standing in private and mature gardens with far reaching views of the surrounding Shropshire countryside. Boasting some excellent period architectural plasterwork, wood panelling and rooms of grand proportions, the Hall has the potential to be an exceptional home both for entertaining and family life. Extensive outbuildings offer the possibility (subject to the relevant planning consents) for a wide range of uses.

Entering the house through the front door there is a grand reception hall with ornate plasterwork ceiling and a large open fireplace, leading to the striking main staircase which is lit by a venetian window. The hall leads into the sitting room, drawing room and dining room, all of which have retained many of the original architectural features including plasterwork, open fires and sash windows complete with shutters. Beyond the hall lies the kitchen with a Rayburn range, and extensive utility accommodation including scullery, laundry room and boot room as well as useful cellar space.

From the hall the main staircase leads up to a large landing that boasts further exceptional plasterwork and wood panelling. You can also enjoy a spectacular view into the gardens through the venetian window.

The principal bedrooms lead off the main landing, three of which are panelled and each with hand basins, shutters and built-in storage. There are two bathrooms as well as a dressing room situated between the two front bedrooms. The first floor can also be accessed via the back stairs which then lead up to the attic rooms, which could be developed into further accommodation.

The CottageTo the left of the rear gate is Wrockwardine Cottage, a traditional black and white timber framed building which, could offer extra guest or staff accommodation if renovated.

Gardens and GroundsWrockwardine Hall is approached by a slightly curving tarmac drive through mature gardens leading to the grand Georgian facade. The boundary wall to the south of Wrockwardine Hall is built with large and sturdy limestone blocks and appears to be of greater age than any part of the house or outbuildings.

The grounds are bordered with well stocked informal beds and the plot as a whole boasts many mature trees including yew, willow, Scots pine, variegated holly and an array of fruit trees. Behind the house to the north is a more formally laid out garden where a gravel pathway runs through the middle of a more formal garden bordered with lavender, roses and passing through various trellises with a range of climbers leading down to the pond and the extensive kitchen gardens with a south facing wall planted with espalier fruit trees. The path continues around past the orchard and small paddocks

In all the gardens and grounds extend to about 3.9 acres.

OutbuildingsTo the north and east of the house is an extensive range of outbuildings including the Grade II* Listed dovecote. The outbuildings surround a central grass courtyard and include pigsties / kennels, 3-bay coach house and two stables attached to a large barn which can also be accessed from the rear drive and could be used as garaging. To the north a smaller two-storey brick barn is attached to the old pigsties, and continuing through into a smaller cobbled courtyard, access to additional stabling and, via external stone steps, the loft space above.

Accessed from the rear drive are further outbuildings which include excellent stabling, extending to three stalls with sloping brick floors and two larger loose boxes all well built in oak.
