Our productions are specially commissioned new plays or adaptations of children’s books. They include original, often live music together with different art forms like puppetry, dance, movement and digital technology. We tour nationally to small scale venues including studio theatres, arts centres, village halls, rural touring schemes and primary schools undertaking around 200 performances a year. Recent productions include the highly successful When We Lived in Uncle’s Hat which received a 4 star review in The Guardian, Whatever Next! and Hare and Tortoise. We also run creative projects with children in schools, support artists who create work for children and run the biennial Little Feet Festival of Children’s Theatre with York Theatre Royal. York Theatre Royal’s family production of The Railway Children, adapted by Mike Kenny, won a Yorkshire Tourism Award for Best Visitor Experience of the year in 2009 and has been performed at London Waterloo Station and in Toronto. In August 2012 the theatre mounted the York Mystery Plays in the Museum Gardens; a community play involving 1,700 people and was a great success.
