    BOOK REVIEW OF THE BOOK THE ALCHEMIST

    BACKGROUND

    1. For practical demonstration of written brief the UTO s are assigned the taskof writing the book review of assigned book.

    2. The book selected by the undersigned is The Alchemist. The Alchemist is anovel by Paulo Coelho first published in the year 1988. The Alchemist follows ayoung shepherd named Santiago in his journey to Egypt, after having a recurringdream of finding treasure there.

    3. Santiago decides to travel to a Romani in a nearby town to discover itsmeaning. A gypsy woman tells him that there is a treasure in the Pyramids in Egypt.

    4. Early into his journey, he meets an old king, Melchizedek, who tells him tosell his sheep to travel to Egypt and introduces the idea of a Personal Legend. YourPersonal Legend is what you have always wanted to accomplish. He adds that "whenyou want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it". This is

    the core theme of the book.

    5. Along the way, he meets an Englishman and continues his travel with him.They traveled through The Sahara desert and during his journey, he meets a

    beautiful Arabian woman named Fatima, whom he falls in love with. He then askedFatima to marry him, however she says she will only marry him after he finds histreasures. He was puzzled by this and he later learns that true love will not stop one'sPersonal Legend and if it does, it is not true love.

    6. Santiago then encounters a lone alchemist who also teaches him aboutPersonal Legends. He says that people want to find only the treasure of theirPersonal Legends but not the Personal Legend itself.

    7. Line to Take. The book's main theme is about finding one's destiny. Thewriter says "when you really want something to happen, the whole universeconspires so that your wish comes true".

    CONCLUSION

    9. One night, Santiago had a dream about finding treasure in the Pyramids ofEgypt. He goes to Tangier to sell his sheep for enough money to travel to thePyramids. On his way he trusts a thief who takes all his money then he works at acrystal merchants shop. Over there he sold more crystal the merchant ever sold

    before. After he earned enough money, Santiago meets the Alchemist by chance,and they get to talking. After leaving the crystal merchants, he bought a camel toride to the Pyramids. Santiago had good intentions, and received his reward for thatexact reason. Santiago was looking for a treasure, and found his treasure.
