Transportation problem plays vital role in each stage of human civilization. Due to the trend of nationalization and globalization in recent decades, the importance of logistics management has been growing in various areas. For industries, logistics helps tooptimize the existing production and distribution processes based on the same resources through management techniques for promoting the efficiency and competitiveness of enterprises. The key element in a logistics chain is transportation system, which linkstheseparated activities. Transportation occupies onethird of the amount in the logistics costsand transportation systems influence the performance of logistics system hugely. Transporting is required in the whole production procedure, from manufacturing tilldelivery to the final consumers and returns. !nly a good coordination between each component would bring the benefits to a maximum. Transportation has contributed much to the development of economic, social, political and cultural fields thus uplifting their condition. The Transportation problem is a special type oflinearprogramming problem which deals with the distribution ofsingle commodity"raw or finished# from various sources of supply to different destinations of demand in such a way thatthe total transportation cost is minimum. There are effective algorithms for solving the transportation problems when all the decision parameters, viz. the supply available at each source, the demand required at each destination as well as the unit transportation costs are given in a precisely.$ut in real life, there are many diverse situations due to uncertainty in one or more decision parameters and hence they may not be expressed in a precisely. This is due to measurement inaccuracy, lack of evidence, computational errors, high information cost, weather conditions etc. %encetraditional classical methods sometimes fail to solve the transportation problems successfully. Therefore the application techniques under fuzzy environment in transportation problems are more appropriate both in modelingand solvingthe realworld problems. The most commonly studied transportation problem in the literature is the transportation problem with a single ob&ective of minimization of the total transportation cost. 'ecently multi ob&ective, multichoice and multiitem optimization have gained more importance for decision making problems in many areas like industry, healthcare, transportation etc.(n addition to that, in a variety of real world transportation problems, like the transportation of perishable goods from the stores to the market and in emergencysituations like war, where army troops are to be sent to the battle field etc., the time of transportation problem is relevant too. )inimization of time is one the important ob&ective of the transportation problem. *s road transport is the largest contributor to global warming, the environmentalimpact of transport is significant.(n recent years, there has been growing recognition ofthe needtopromote sustainable transportationsystem. (nthe emergingtrend, it isnecessary to provide environmentally responsible transportation models which will be agreat benefit to the humanity. +onsequently the main ob&ective of this research work is to develop the ecofriendlytransportationmodelswhichalsooptimizethedistributionprocessinthelogistics management under uncertain environment. $ased on this ob&ective in this research work we plan to construct the effectivetransportation models with ,nvironmentalissues -arious costs related to practical needs. )ultiob&ective ,multichoice, multiitem (mprecise input parameters which would in turn bring the social and economical developments of the society.
