Wrap Thrones
The Wrap thrones are handmade to high quality standards by Indian artisans; the ancient crafts of applying 24-carat gold leaf and silver skillfully balance material audacity with austerity in form. While the traditional technique remains the same, large swathes of the silver foil are wrapped around plain surfaces and the craft process is guided from a random ‘covering’ in silver to a methodical ‘wrapping’.

This throne is part of the ‘Unbridaled’ project launched in Paris by Swarovski. It combines historical Indian craft and material culture with cutting edge European material luxury and challenges traditional perceptions surrounding the intrinsic and perceived value of materials within contemporary culture. The design is a geometric exploration of shadow, light and reflection between the materials

Silver Linings
Hand crafted by the stone carving artisans in Jaipur, Silver Linings is a collection of interior objects that aims at incorporating their carving expertise within a contemporary framework to create seamless objects using granite tiles. The silver wrapping craftsmen are roped in to add a shadow gap in pure silver at the bottom contrasting the two materials and creating an architectural composition that interacts with the interior space through a series of reflections mirrored in the granite surface

The ‘CycleRecycleCycle’ workshop was conducted for Urbanplay in Amsterdam in Sept 2008 in collaboration with Droog Design. The project plays with the concept of deconstruction and ornamentation of bicycles as seen in Indian culture and old bicycles are recycled to create conceptual pieces of furniture inspired by Indian bicycle vendors.

The ‘DINNER STACK’ is a contemporary design project that explores cooking, serving and storing traditions within Indian culture in relation to eating objects and rituals. The ‘Dinner Stack’ is a sculptural stack of silver vessels that form the basis of the Indian ‘thaali’ and the ‘matka bhowai’ dance form in India. Inspired by the stacking of vessels in Indian kitchens, the
dinner set is presented in two separate sculptural stacks for ‘eating’ and ‘serving’.

Diva Collection
‘Diva’ in India refers to an earthenware oil lamp that is lit at sunset across the country. This collection recycles traditional Indian lamp forms and lighting customs to create contemporary candle stands in gold and silver. The lamps wrap around an ordinary t-
light to explore shadow, light and reflection.
