Poumons d’ Acier: William Schimmel    The title on my piece translated means Steel Lungs. The style and mood reflects the French Neo classical period and the spray of references pay respect to the members of Le Six                                 ‐ William Schimmel  Bronze Bossa: Dan Cooper   Composers Concordance, this presenting organization for contemporary music which i'm fortunate to co‐direct, owes its existence to artists such as Bill Schimmel and Peter Jarvis, who've been associated with the series since its founding over thirty years ago. Bill was in fact the composition teacher of one of CompCord's founding directors! Bill has brought to innumerable concert programs not only amazing performances & compositions, but also invaluable mentorship. We look forward to continued collaboration. Happy 70th Birthday Bill! Hope you dig this new bossa nova tune i wrote, entitled 'Bronze Bossa!’.           – Dan Cooper  Loving Zombies: William Schimmel   Loving Zombies was conceived as a result of me watching (in a half light) Ray Donovan on late nite TV (I happen to be playing in the soundtrack). On this particular episode was a wonderful cover of Time of the Season by the Zombies.   That night I hear in my dream a new version. I wake up and I write it down and realized that I turned  my dream into a REALITY.  Loving Zombies is just that ‐ and a tribute to the wonderful 60's band ‐ The Zombies.                        ‐ William Schimmel  Solemnity: Gene Pritsker   The word solemnity is used for occasions that are all about seriousness and dignity. The music is ceremonial that develops one percussion groove idea and one melodic idea. They move together solemnly, reacting to each other and evolving slowly.  The percussive part of the music only uses 3 instruments: Cabasa, Djembe and a Tambourine. The vibraphone, accordion, horn and bass trombone are the quartet that set the harmonic and melodic language of the music. It is a procession with a grave undertone, a mood that reflected my feelings while writing this music, shortly after the passing of my friend of 16 years, my dog Poochini. I am sure though, that this is not the last tribute I will write for him, for my feelings are strong and consistently reveal themselves in the music I create.             ‐ Gene Pritsker  70: Payton Macdonald   I composed 70 for Bill Schimmel and the New Jersey Percussion Ensemble in honor of Bill's seventieth birthday.  I used the number 7 in various ways to generate and develop musical material, in honor of Bill's seven extraordinary decades.                  ‐ Payton MacDonald  Stressor: Gene Pritsker   Stressor for solo accordion plays with the rhythm stress points of the accompaniment while presenting a fun uninhibited melody. These 2 ideas are developed throughout in virtuosic accordion writing and bring us to a stress free conclusion.                  ‐ Gene Pritsker  Side to Side: John Clark   Side to Side is an unabashed 1980's ‐ type funk vamp that provides a challenging backdrop for a soloist or soloists.  The tonality and the patterns change at regular intervals to keep things interesting.   Feel free to dance in your seat, get up and dance or just bob your head from Side to Side!                              ‐ John Clark  Concerto for Accordion and Percussion Sextet: Peter Jarvis 

Concerto for Accordion and Percussion Sextet was completed on June 16, 2016 and is happily dedicated to William Schimmel.  This is my third concerto for percussion sextet and soloist. The first, from 2011, is with vibraphone solo composed for John Ferrari, the second from 2016, is with frame drums solo composed for Glen Velez and this; my third is with accordion and was composed for William Schimmel. All three pieces were composed with the New Jersey Percussion Ensemble in mind, which silently shares the dedication.                                 ‐ Peter Jarvis   

  

Lucky Man: Greg Lake (arr. William Schimmel)   Even with Emerson, Lake and Palmer's Progressive 70's Rock takes Classical Compositions, Lucky Man by Greg Lake was their biggest hit. Upon hearing about Keith Emerson's death, I started to explore Lucky Man on my Bass Accordion which is well broken in to achieve Microtones  by bellows manipulation. Adding a kind of vocals that resembled speaking in tongues, I started to move into vocal microtones. And the final result is a tribute to ELP and of course Keith Emerson          ‐ William Schimmel  

Biographical Information  

William Schimmel (born 1946) is one of the principal architects in the resurgence of the accordion,  the revival of the Tango  in America, and the philosophy of "Musical Reality” (composition with pre‐existing music.) He holds Bachelor  of Music:. Master of Science and Doctor of Musical Arts degrees  in composition  from the Juilliard School where he studied with Elliot Carter,  Vincent Persichetti,  Roger Sessions, Hugo Weisgall, Luciano Berio and a diploma  from the Neupauer Conservatory of Music  in performance and composition where he studied with Dr. Jacob C Neupauer, Lotta Hertlein, David Lampe  and Paul Creston.  He is a prolific composer with nearly 4000 works  in many mediums  including, Broadway, Off Broadway, Solo, Chamber Music, Music Theatre and Performance Art. His music has been performed  by/at The Houston Symphony, The Orchestra of St. Lukes, The Grand Rapids Symphony, The  Juilliard Symphony, The Pennsylvania Sinfonia, WBAI Free Music Store, The Juilliard Ensemble, The New Juilliard Ensemble, The Grand Teton  Festival Orchestra, received grants from  the American Music Center, Meet The Composer, two teaching fellowships  from The Juilliard School, Two Rodgers and Hammerstein  Scholarships from The Juilliard School and The Dr. Albert Szmari Scholarship, also from Juilliard. He received a Composers' Citation from The American Accordionists' Association in honor of his composition, The Spring Street Ritual, which was the  test piece  for  the 1979 Coupe Mondiale World Competition. He received The Confederations international Association Merit Award for his contributions as a composer, performer and philosopher on the  international accordion scene. He received a Merit Award from the American Accordionists' Association for his contributions spanning  fifty years plus the "Accordionist of the Year'' Award in 1988.He received the Keyboard  magazine  readers' poll award  in 1992 as "Best Accordionist" for his extensive stylistic  breath. He has served  and continues to serve  as Artist  in Residence  of The American Accordionist’s where he also serves  as Distinguished Lecturer in Residence and member of the Governing Board.   Regarded as The World's Greatest Accordionist by National Public Radio, He  is best known  for his hit recordings with The Tango Project, number  one on the Billboard Charts  and winning the Stereo  Review  Album of the Year Award as a Grammy Nomination, who also appears with AI Pacino  in the film Scent of a Woman for which Pacino won an Oscar, as well as performances in True Ues, Mr. & Mrs .   Smid1 (trailer), Sex and the music of Kurt Weill and has recorded all of Weill's music which includes the accordion. He also served  as accordionist and associate conductor  of Joseph  Papp's production of The  Three  Penny Opera  (Stanley Silverman Richard Foreman  version) starring Raul Julia and  for the Chelsea Theatre’s production of Happy End, starring Meryl Streep ‐ both on Broadway. He also performed in numerous other Broadway  Shows: Bent, Zorba, Three Penny Opera it takes, Nancy Gold and David Letterman. He now hosts his own  internet  radio show, The Old In and Out, on WS Accordion Radio.   He is married  to dancer, choreographer, director  and  filmmaker, Vicki Goodman. Together they  founded the Studio Muse Dance Troup and produced  concerts in the New York, New  Jersey  and  the  Philadelphia area  which  included  the  repertory  pieces: Sea Amulets ,Rock Suite, Lethe, Looking at Television, Spanish Suite, Adagio in One Place and Soft Core. Later, they founded  the  Institute  for Private  Studies, a pluralistic vision think tank and have collaborated in a series of  theatre works which have made accordion history: Road to Patagonia, Classic Reality, Opera Fisarmonica, Small Hotels, Strange Nanissism  (new realities on early music), The Rite of Fall and Dead End Avenue. Today, Studio Muse  is a production  and recording company  and the  Institute  for Private Studies William Paterson University New Music Series:   The William Paterson University New Music Series is now in its 40th season.  Directed by Peter Jarvis, the series presents 8 – 10 concerts a year consisting of a wire‐range of musical genres, 15‐20 premieres a season and includes many guest composers and distinguished guest performers.   Over the past few seasons guests have included Robert Dick, Davis Taylor, Taka Kigawa, John Clark, Kevin Norton, Michiyo Suzuki, Steve Rush, Franz Hackl, Gene Pritsker, Composers Concordance and many others.    Noted for innovative and high‐quality performances, the New Music Connoisseur cited “The presentation of the Rzewski composition (Coming Together) was as grand and exciting as a Mahler symphony.  The audience was left breathless by the histrionics, the virtuosity, the interpretation, the rigorous baton of maestro (Peter) Jarvis, and the dedication of the performers to bring about this epic twentieth‐century composition.” – Helmut Calabrese  New Jersey Percussion Ensemble:   The highly acclaimed, Grammy nominated New Jersey Percussion Ensemble, in residence at William Paterson University, directed by Peter Jarvis and managed by Payton MacDonald, was founded in 1968 by Raymond DesRoches. Because of the ensemble's commitment to the proclamation and high‐level performances of percussion repertoire, numerous pieces have been written for, premiered by and recorded by the group. The New Jersey Percussion Ensemble has appeared in the United States and Europe as guests of the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, the San Francisco Symphony, the Gaudeamus Foundation, Radio Denmark, Composers Concordance and countless others. B3+ (B Three Plus) is Bass Trombone, French Horn, Trumpet, as you never have heard, seen or experienced before. Taylor/Clark/Hackl are creating their own brass trio literature. The creative tension initiated by the overlapping areas of improvisation and through‐composed passages overpowers every attempt to categorize it into different styles.  B3+ develops into much more than its single parts. It is music at its purest; it is as simple and complex as that. You will hear an exciting meeting of Bartok, Pastorius, Schubert, Bach and similarly talented cats of early classical music, jazz standards, free jazz, original music, authorized and non‐authorized interpretations of pop tunes and Welsh hymns.   John, Franz & Dave started to play Horn, Trombone and Trumpet at the average age of 8.  Born in the heart of the Alps, and Brooklyn. their open minds and searching ears got busy right away.   Sometime later, they received Masters, Bachelors and other degrees from the Juilliard school, New England Conservatory and Manhattan School of Music.  They subsequently achieved real‐world degrees from playing with other great musicians and came to their uncommon senses by forming B3+.   For further details, google away, and show up to one of their gigs!   Composers Concordance:    "For the past 30 years, Composers Concordance has been a booster for local composers, through both its concerts across the city and a record label." ‐The Wall Street Journal. "Enterprising new music organization" ‐The New York Times. Staying in rotation for thirty years in NYC is a rare feat. In the case of a new music presenting organization, it requires not only diligence and cognizance of achievements of the past, but also an ethic of keeping one's ear to the ground for emerging stylistic and technological developments, as well as talented new composers on the scene. Composers Concordance strives to present contemporary music in innovative ways, with an emphasis on thematic programming. Gene Pritsker, Dan Cooper, and Milica Paranosic co‐curate the programs, and lead CCE, the ensemble‐in‐residence at William Paterson University. Venues in recent seasons have included Bohemian National Hall, Chelsea Art Museum, Cutting Room, Dimenna Center, Drom NYC, Gallery MC, LPR, Miller Theater, the Museum of Natural History, and Weill Recital Hall, among many others. Composers Concordance was founded in 1984 by Joseph Pehrson and Patrick Hardish, advised by Otto Luening. It has also created a new record label, Composers Concordance Records, with distribution by Naxos. Composers Concordance's overriding vision is to see contemporary music, composers, and new works as a rightful and respected part of society. Good music, performed and recorded well, pushing the boundaries of sound and composition.

Percussionist Dr. Michael Aberback is an active performer and music educator. Michael has performed at Carnegie Hall, The Madison Square Garden Theatre, Symphony Space, The New Jersey Performing Arts Center, The Music Festival of the Hamptons, Merkin Concert Hall, The Count Basie Theatre, and many other New York area 

venues. He has played with The New Jersey Percussion Ensemble, Camerata Noturna, Cantori New York, The ISCM League of Composers, The New Music Consort, Music From China, and Newband, to name a few. He can be heard on recordings on the CRI and Naxos labels. Michael holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from SUNY Stony Brook, where he studied percussion with Raymond DesRoches and Eduardo Leandro. Michael has taught students at every level. In 2009, he received the WDHA ‘Teachers Who Rock’ award, and in 2014, he was named ‘teacher of the year’ in the Mount Arlington Public School District.  Paul Carroll: 

Paul Carroll is a Hudson Valley based percussionist and educator, and has performed with many prestigious contemporary music groups in the New York area. Through a grant from the Beebe Foundation, Paul studied in Copenhagen, Denmark, where he performed with the Athelas Ensemble and the Ensemble Figura. Most recently, he has worked with a Hudson Valley based group called Madera Vox. Paul Carroll has worked with many composers and had solo works dedicated to him by Robert Pollock and Peter Zaparinuk. He can be heard on many recordings, including the 2008 release of Charles Wuorinen’s The Dante Trilogy, on Naxos. Paul was honored to have studied with percussion pioneers Raymond DesRoches and Bent Lylloff, as well as the legendary jazz drummer, Joe Morello. He holds a Doctorate and Master in Music from SUNY at Stony Brook, and a Bachelor of Music degree from William Paterson University. John Clark:   Horn player, arranger, and composer, John Clark has performed all over the world with a wide diversity of musicians in a variety of musical arenas:  jazz, pop, Broadway, classical, and studio work.   Clark was awarded the M.M. degree from New England Conservatory of Music where he studied Horn, composition and improvisation, and he established his jazz credentials with a series of recordings with his own band‐‐the most recent being the album The Odd Couple Quintet +1 on the Composers Concordance label (pre‐ nominated for a Grammy in 2015).   The list of artists (many of them Grammy winners) with whom he has recorded and/or performed includes:  Gil Evans, McCoy Tyner, Miles Davis, Joe Lovano, Julius Hemphill, Jaco Pastorius, George Russell, and the Mingus Orchestra, among many others.     Clark is the recipient of a composition grant from the National Endowment of the Arts, and his work has been performed and/or recorded by the Gil Evans Orchestra, McCoy Tyner Big Band, Paul Winter Consort, Composers’ Concordance, Genghis Barbie, Imani Winds and the Pugh‐Taylor Project, among others. He is on the Faculty of Manhattan School of Music and the Board of Directors of Mohawk Trail Concerts (MA).   – From Wikipedia   Dan Cooper:   Dan Cooper ("especially fascinating" ‐American Record Guide) was born and raised in Manhattan, and educated at Columbia, NEC, and Princeton. The recipient of an Aaron Copland fellowship to Tanglewood, he has received awards, commissions, residencies, and premieres from Absolute Ensemble, Albany Symphony, ASCAP, Cary Trust, Engine 27, ESYO, Fontainebleau, Imani Winds, NARAS, NEA, North River Music, NYYS, Shakespeare & Company, ACO / Sonic Festival, Vox Novus, Walter W. Naumburg Fund, and Zentripetal Duo, among others. As a multi‐instrumentalist, he has performed at venues including Berlin Philharmonic Hall, Bunkamura Orchard Hall, CBGB, Chicago Theater, Davies Hall, Hong Kong City Hall, Irving Plaza, Joe's Pub, LPR, Massey Hall, Rockefeller Center, Royal Albert Hall, Sydney Opera House, The American Airlines (Selwyn) Theatre, The American Museum of Natural History, The Blue Note, and Town Hall. Cooper is a music professor at SUNY‐FIT, and a co‐director of Composers Concordance. http://www.dan‐cooper.com  Sean Dello Monaco:   Born, February 23, 1996 in Lyndhurst New Jersey, Sean Dello Monaco discovered a love for percussion while in high school. He is currently a classical performance percussion major at William Patterson University. Sean frequently plays in the pit for musicals and has performed at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center. In addition to performing, Sean also builds percussion instruments and makes mallets; he has recently started a company called Telson Percussion.  John Ferrari:   John Ferrari is active in classical, jazz, pop, Broadway, film, television and dance music, the avant‐garde, and multi‐media. He has performed and given master classes nationally and abroad, and appears on dozens of recordings as percussionist, drummer and conductor. He is a founding member of the Naumburg Award winning New Millennium Ensemble, a regular guest artist of the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center and Chamber Music Northwest, and has been a member of Meridian Arts Ensemble since 1993. Mr. Ferrari has also appeared and/or recorded with many other notable organizations such as: Bang On A Can All‐Stars, Da Capo Chamber Players, Manhattan Symphonietta, Perspectives Ensemble, The Group for Contemporary Music, Orpheus Chamber Players, Riverside Symphony, Locrian, Cygnus, Pittsburg Collective, John 

Hollenbeck Large Ensemble and others.   He most recently has been heard in orchestras for the  Shakespeare In The Park production of Into The Woods and Evita on Broadway. He also launched the premier concert of the Kag Ensemble this August at the DiMenna Center in New York.  Mr. Ferrari holds DMA and MM degrees from SUNY Stony Brook, and a BM from William Paterson University where he has served on the performing arts faculty since 2002. In fall 2007 he joined the faculty of Manhattan School of Music’s graduate Contemporary Performance program. He is also on the teaching artist rosters of Hunter College (since 2008) and Princeton University (since 2010).   Jesse Gerbasi:   Born in Plainfield New Jersey, Jesse Gerbasi started out playing drumset early on in high school and later moved on to play classical percussion. He is currently a music education major at William Paterson University in his junior year. Jesse often plays with local community Orchestras and Concert Bands, such as the Raritan Valley Symphonic Band and the Baroque Orchestra of New Jersey.  Peter Jarvis:   Peter Jarvis (b. 1959, Hackensack, New Jersey) ("Jarvis' podium style embedded precision within flowing gestures, a philosophy of movement which clearly transferred itself to the players" ‐ Classical New Jersey) is a percussionist, drummer, conductor, composer, music copyist, print music editor and college professor. He is an Associate Director of the composer Concordance and serves as Chairman of the Board of Directors.   Over the decades, he has performed popular and unpopular music with equal enthusiasm. He has performed as a soloist, chamber player, Broadway musician and as conductor/player with chamber music ensembles, orchestras and choruses.  The proliferation of percussion literature is extremely important to Jarvis and he has performed approximately 100 solo pieces for multi percussion, timpani, vibraphone, marimba, solo snare drum and drum set composed for him.    Jarvis composed, orchestrated, arranged and performed music for Moonrise Kingdom, a film by Wes Anderson, which opened the Cannes Film Festival on May 16, 2012. Moonrise Kingdom received a Golden Globe nomination for "Best Score" and an Academy Award nomination in 2013. His involvement in the film as a composer included various individual projects ranging from adding music to a score by Benjamin Britten and composing original music for several scenes. As arranger and orchestrator he worked on music composed by Mark Mothersbaugh and as performer he led a percussion section and provided several improvisations. He has also performed his own solo percussion music for the second, third, fourth and fifth seasons of the HBO Series Boardwalk Empire. During the third season, his music appeared in seven episodes. More recently Jarvis worked on Ang Lee’s movie Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk, which will be released in 2016. His involvement on the project included transcribing, arranging and as percussionist.   As conductor, he has appeared with the Saint Luke’s Chamber Ensemble, The New Jersey Percussion Ensemble, Composers Concordance, and many other groups. Jarvis composed, orchestrated, arranged and performed music for Wes Anderson’s film Moonrise Kingdom, which received a Golden Globe nomination for Best Score. He has also performed his own solo percussion music for several episodes of the HBO Series Boardwalk Empire.   He has recorded a great many pieces as soloist, chamber musician and conductor for several labels.    His compositions are published by Calabrese Brothers Music LLC, Indian Paintbrush Productions and L‐T Music Publishing and he is a member of BMI. Payton MacDonald (b. 1974, Idaho Falls, Idaho) is a composer/improviser/percussionist/singer/educator. MacDonald was a founding member of new‐music chamber orchestra superstars Alarm Will Sound and has also toured internationally as a solo marimbist and a member of various chamber ensembles including Galaxy Percussion, NJPE, Present Music, and Verederos. He has commissioned many works from today's leading composers, including Charles Wuorinen, Don Freund, Elliott Sharp, and many others. And many of the world's best ensembles have performed MacDonald's music, including the Los Angeles Philharmonic, JACK Quartet, Alarm Will Sound, et al. MacDonald has performed in the world's best venues, including Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Barbican, and many more. MacDonald studied music at the University of Michigan (B.F.A.) and the Eastman School of Music (M.M., D.M.A.). His composition teachers include Sydney Hodkinson, Robert Morris, Dave Rivello, Bright Sheng, and Augusta Read Thomas. His percussion teachers include John Beck and Michael Udow, and tabla with Bob Becker and Pandit Sharda Sahai. Further studies include Dhrupad vocal with the Gundecha Brothers. MacDonald has been to India many times, including for nine months as a Senior Fulbright‐Nehru Fellow. The Los Angeles Times described MacDonald as an ". . . inventive, stylistically omnivorous composer and gifted performer . . ." MacDonald serves as a Full Professor of Music at William Paterson University and he is a Co‐Artistic Director of SHASTRA, an organization the brings together the music of India and the West.    

Gene Pritsker:   Composer/guitarist/rapper/Di.J. Gene Pritsker has written over five hundred eighty compositions, including chamber operas, orchestral and chamber works, electro‐acoustic music and songs for hip‐hop and rock ensembles. All of his compositions employ an eclectic spectrum of styles and are influenced by his studies of various musical cultures.   He is the founder and leader of Sound Liberation; an eclectic hip hop‐chamber‐jazz‐rock‐etc. ensemble and co‐director of Composers' Concordance. Gene's music has been performed all over the world at various festivals and by many ensembles and performers, including the Adelaide Symphony, MDR Symphony, The Athens Camarata, China Philharmonic Orchestra, Brooklyn, Shanghai and Berlin Philharmonic, Sinfonietta Riga, Orchester des Pfalztheaters, Yomiuri Nippon Symphony Orchestra, Anhaltische Philharmonie as well as such soloists as Anne Akiko Meyers, Lara St. John, Kathleen Supove, Sarah Chang, Martin Kuuskmann, Tim Fain, and Simone Dinnerstein. He has worked closely with Joe Zawinul and has orchestrated major Hollywood movies, Including 'Cloud Atlas', for which he wrote additional music and composed his ''Cloud Atlas Symphony', to be released  in 2016   The New York Times described him as "...audacious...multitalented." Joseph Pehrson, writing in The Music Connoisseur, described Pritsker as "dissolving the artificial boundaries between high brow, low brow, classical, popular musics and elevates the idea that if it's done well it is great music, regardless of the style or genre". Classical Music Sentinel writes:  "His expressive reach is so wide as to encompass everything from ethno/techno, rock/jazz fusion, classical opera and more, and it all seems to be effortlessly integrated within his anima and comes out through different facets of his persona. You could almost see him as a modern day renaissance man.    He is the co‐director of Composers' Concordance (CC Records), co‐founder/guitarist of Absolute Ensemble and artist‐in residence at the  Austrian Outreach Festival.   David Taylor:   Receiving B.S. and M.S. degrees from The Julliard School of Music, David Taylor started his playing career as a member of Leopold Stowkowski's American Symphony Orchestra, and by appearing with the New York Philharmonic under Pierre Boulez. Simultaneously, he was a member of the Thad Jones Mel Lewis jazz band, and recorded with groups ranging from Duke Ellington to The Rolling Stones. He also recorded numerous solo CDs on the following labels: Koch, New World, ENJA, DMP, Tzadik, CIMP, and PAU.   Mr. Taylor performs recitals and concerti around the world, from Lincoln Center in NY with the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, the NY Chamber Symphony and the St Luke’s Chamber Orchestra to Switzerland’s Basel Sinfonietta, Australia’s Adelaide Symphony, and to the Niederösterreich Tonkünstler Orchestra at the Musikverein in Vienna. He has been involved in dozens of commissioning projects for the bass trombone in solo and concerto idioms; collaborating with composers including Alan Hovhaness, Charles Wuorinen, George Perle, Frederic Rzewski, Lucia Dlugoszchewski, Eric Ewazen, David Liebman, and Daniel Schnyder. He has appeared and recorded chamber music with Yo Yo Ma, Itzhak Perlman, and Wynton Marsalis and performs with the Mostly Mozart Festival Orchestra, Orpheus, and the St. Luke’s Chamber Orchestra. Throughout his career, Taylor has appeared and recorded with major jazz and popular artists including Barbara Streisand, Miles Davis, Quincy Jones, Frank Sinatra, and Aretha Franklin. Mr. Taylor has won the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences Most Valuable Player Award for five consecutive years, the most it could be awarded and has been awarded the NARAS Most Valuable Player Virtuoso Award, an honor accorded no other bass trombonist. He has been a member of the bands of Gil Evans, Thad Jones‐Mel Lewis, George Russell, Jaco Pastorius, Charles Mingus, Michelle Camillo, Bob Mintzer, Dave Matthews, and the Words Within Music Trio (Daniel Schnyder, David Taylor, Kenny Drew Jr.). Although he has performed on numerous GRAMMY award winning recordings, 1998 was special. In 1998 Taylor performed on four GRAMMY nominated CDs: The J.J. Johnson Big Band, Dave Grusin's West Side Story, the Joe Henderson Big Band, and the Randy Brecker Band. The latter two CDs were chosen for GRAMMYs.    David Taylor is also on the faculties of the Manhattan School of Music and Mannes College. He plays Edwards bass trombones exclusively.  Gary Van Dyke: 

Gary Van Dyke is an accomplished percussionist who is active as a performer, conductor and educator.  He studied percussion with Raymond DesRoches for six years and earned music degrees from William Paterson College and the State University of New York at Stony Brook.  Mr. Van Dyke performs and conducts with the New Jersey New Music Ensemble and the New Jersey Percussion Ensemble.  He can be heard on Nonesuch, Composer’s Recording Inc., New World and Capstone recording labels with the New Jersey Percussion Ensemble under Charles Wuorinen, Harvey Solberger and Raymond DesRoches.   Mr. Van Dyke has held teaching positions since 1978 and currently is an Adjunct Faculty at William Paterson University, conducting and performing new music and percussion ensemble literature.   Mr. Van Dyke makes his home in Ramsey, New Jersey with his wife, Linea and their three children, Amanda, Kyle and Briana.
