REMINDER

JANUARY 2018

A New Year & a New You The West Philadelphia Senior Community Center (WPSCC) is coming off a tremendous year and 2018 looks just as promising. Last year our education, nutrition and fitness programs became the talk of Philadelphia, as we continued to attract media and public attention throughout the region. With increased interest in our programs, now is the time for you to fulfill your New Year’s resolution.

This past November we enhanced our fitness room with new equipment, and continue to offer programing that provides information on eating well and staying fit. Over the next year these programs will continue to serve our members, and we remain committed to providing you with the best possible resources.

As part of this commitment we also invite you to take advantage of our computer and tablet classes, arts and music activities, social outings, and our financial and retirement planning seminars. Our In-Home Support Program also continues to thrive with continued outreach throughout the area, providing companionship and care to older adults.

The West Philadelphia Senior Community Center is dedicated to meeting the needs of our community. If you know someone in West Philadelphia, age 60 or better, that can benefit from a free membership to the Center, we encourage you to share how WPSCC can make a difference for them.

We wish you the very best this New Year and are grateful for your membership!

MONTHLY TIP

January is the deadliest month for carbon monoxide poisoning!Because cold weather increases the use of gas-powered furnaces as well as alternative heating/power sources (portable generators, charcoal briquettes, propane stoves or grills) during power outages, here are the following tips to reduce these: • Have your heating system, water heater and any other

gas, oil or coal-burning appliance inspected and serviced by a qualified technician every year.

• Install battery-operated CO detectors on every level of your home.

• Don’t use a generator, charcoal grill, camp stove or other gasoline or charcoal-burning device inside the home, basement or garage or outside the home near a window.
