1. Sources used in the NA series on labour volumes

• Main sources:• Labour Force Survey: persons and hours

• Structural Business Statistics for mining, manufacturing, electricity (C, D, E), finance and insurance (J) and compulsory social security activities (753)

2. Estimation of labour input volumes

• Labour volumes are available in the Finnish NA (millions of hours) by NACE

• They are mainly based on the information from the LFS, which includes total numbers of hours actually worked in a year, as well as annual average numbers of persons in employment

• The NA and the LFS give, however different results due to the adjustments done in the NA

• A background paper examines the differences of the hours per head of these two sources

Main potential problems

• Differences in the concepts of ESA and those used in the other sources (LFS)

• Difference in estimated numbers of persons and hours

• Specific problems in some industries
