WP022 Waterproofing for Wet Areas (Unenclosed Showers with sheet vinyl floor and walls) Preparation: 1. All surfaces to be waterproofed must be firm, clean, dry, sound and smooth. All grease, oil, wax, curing compounds, loose material, paint and any other contaminants must be removed, masonry surfaces must be pointed flush and surface defects repaired. New concrete must be cured for minimum 28 days. 2. External corners to be waterproofed must be bevelled to ensure a smooth transition of membrane from vertical to horizontal surfaces. Installation: 1. Installation shall be in accordance with AS 3740-2010 Waterproofing of domestic wet areas. Vinyl installation shall be in accordance with AS 1884 – 2012 Floor coverings—Resilient sheet and tiles—Installation practices. Ceramic tile installation shall be in accordance with AS 3958.1 – 2007 Guide to the installation of ceramic tiles. 2. Install a vinyl flange to all waste pipes ensuring that flanges are recessed into substrate. 3. Apply a slurry bond coat of Schonox VD mixed with Schonox SEZ. While slurry coat is still wet, install rapid curing screed using medium washed river sand mixed with Schonox SEZ in accordance with the Technical Data Sheet. Schonox SEZ is a rapid screed binder to mix with screeding sand (0-8 mm) for the preparation of cementitious rapid screeds with hardness classes CT F4 up to F6. 4. Install Bond Breaker to all internal corners vertically and horizontally using Admil SupaSeal PU. Admil SupaSeal PU is a Low Modulus, Hybrid Polyurethane, flexible joint sealant and adhesive that is free of Isocyanates and other hazardous raw materials and omits low odour. 5. Apply WPA 160 Primer to all non-porous surfaces such as puddle flange. WPA 160 is a specialised solvent free primer designed for enhancing the adhesion of subsequent membranes, adhesives, toppings and decorative finishes over porous or non-porous substrates. 6. Apply WPA 360 or WPA 460 Primer to substrate to be waterproofed. (Use WPA 160 or 460 primer for plywood substrates). WPA 360 is a water based low solids, fast drying primer for use with WPA 500 or WPA Rapid waterproofing membranes. WPA 460 is a two component water based epoxy primer used to seal concrete and masonry surfaces. 7. Apply a minimum of two coats of WPA 500 or WPA Rapid membrane to achieve the required dry film thickness. Ensure that the previous coat has completely dried before applying the subsequent coat(s). NOTE: All penetrations, such as screws and taps must be waterproofed. WPA 500 is a waterborne, fibre reinforced, flexible waterproof membrane designed for use under tile finishes. WPA Rapid is a waterborne, flexible waterproofing membrane, utilising next generation, self-crosslinking technology. 8. Allow waterproofing membrane to fully cure and apply two coats (3mm thick) of Schonox SL finishing skim coat to vinyl areas. Schonox SL is a cement based, rapid drying smoothing and finishing compound, suitable to provide a smooth finish on various substrates 9. Install Floor vinyl using Holdfast 451 adhesive. Holdfast 451 is a solvent-free, non-flammable, moisture and weather resistant two part polyurethane adhesive suitable for indoor and outdoor applications. 10. Install wall vinyl using Holdfast 473 adhesive on sheets edges and Holdfast 416 or Holdfast 2007 in the middle of sheets. Holdfast 473 is a sprayable contact and has been formulated to meet varied needs for vinyl installation. Holdfast 416 Hi-Tac is a semi-pressure sensitive, acrylic based, one way stick adhesive, especially formulated to give high tack and trouble free installation to most types of vinyl sheeting and vinyl tiles. Holdfast 2007 is a premium, water based, high performance vinyl adhesive designed for bonding most types of homogeneous & heterogeneous sheet vinyl, to most common interior sub-floors.
