A Message from our Principal Staffing Update Congratulations to Mr Lincoln, who through the merit selection process has been appointed to the position of Assistant Principal at Cooranbong PS, commencing in Term 1, 2019. While we are all very pleased about his worthy promotion, we will be extremely sad that he will be moving on from WWS at the end of 2018. On behalf of our school community, I would sincerely like to thank Mr Lincoln for his highly valuable contribution to our students over the past 3 years. We wish him all the very best of luck for the future. Recycling Theft Following the theft of plants from our school on National Tree Day earlier this year, frustratingly, our students and staff have again fallen victim to another example of inconsiderate behaviour. It is very hard to believe, but over the weekend, our collection of recycling bottles gathered by the students was taken from the school grounds. These bottles had been carefully bagged and were ready to be cashed in for a minor amount to contribute to our environmental program. It is disappointing that someone in the community would feel that it was acceptable to do this to our kids. Healthy Canteen School Canteens have to follow strict guidelines with… with regard to selling nutritious food for children. On Tuesday this week, our school was presented with an award for our exceptional compliance with the current regulations (12 months in advance of the due date I might add!). Thanks to the P&C and the canteen staff for their work in ensuring that our canteen is run so well. White Ribbon Day This Friday will be the first official White Ribbon Day at WWS. Respect and equality is a very important part of what we strive to teach our children here at WWS on a day-to-day basis. The students will be participating in a special assembly and doing specific activities in their classrooms. On the day, students are invited to wear a white t-shirt/shirt and offer a gold coin donation in support of the movement. All money raised will be donated directly to the White Ribbon Foundation and as with all of our fundraising events for charities, participation and donation is completely optional. Grandparents Day Next Monday December 3, WWS will host its annual Grandparents Day. Grandparents are invited to attend our school for classroom visits and performances, followed by spending recess time with the students. Tea, coffee and a light morning tea will be provided. Gold Rewards Day Excursion Congratulations to all of our students who attended the Gold Award day at Peninsula Leisure Centre on Monday and Tuesday. As expected, the students’ behaviour was exemplary and all enjoyed a fun time in the water and on the slide. Thanks to all staff who attended and to Mrs Lappan for organising the day. Homework Club Please be aware that no more Homework Club sessions will be run on Mondays between now and the end of the school year. Homework Club will recommence in the early stages of Term 1, 2019. Oz Tag Gala Day Congratulations to the students who represented Woy Woy South during the NRL Oz Tag Gala Day held last week at Adcock Park. Both teams played well throughout the day, showing great sportsmanship and respect to the referees and their opponents. Thank you to those Parents that helped out on the day with transport and supporting the teams. Year 2 – 3 Transition Information BIKES Our school follows RMS/Service NSW recommendations which suggest that students should not be permitted to ride their bikes to school until at least Year 3. Please be aware that not all Year 3 students have the maturity, road sense or skills to safely ride their bikes to school. This is a decision you must make as a parent. No child is to ride a bike to and from school without a helmet and bike riding inside the school grounds is not permitted for the safety of other students. All students needing to cross Ocean Beach Road must walk their bike from the school bike racks out to the crossing and then walk their bike across when the green man appears (following the directions of the teacher supervising). Once again, this is for their safety and the safety of other students who must follow the same route. Bikes are enclosed in a locked compound during the school day but students must bring a bike lock to secure their own bike within this area. Unfortunately, we do have people from outside the school who attempt to remove bikes. Children riding scooters must obey the same rules. Skateboards and in-line skates are not permitted at school.
