MORNING WORSHIP SERVICE "The Day of Resurrection" Fred Prentice

April 11, 1971 Readers: For everything there is a Season, and a time for every matter under heaven: a time to be bom and a time to die; Since there is no lasting memory for wise man or for fool, and in the days to come both will be forgotten, wise man, alas, no less than fool must die. Indeed the fate of man and beast is identical; one dies, the other too, and both have the self same breath; Man has no advantage over the beast, for all is vanity.

This Service will proceed without announcement.

THE SERVICE OF PRAISE People: Both go to the same place: Both originate from the dust and to the dust return.

Organ Prelude-"Christus Resurrexit" Ravanello Choral Introit-"Hosanna" Katherine K. Davis

The Junior Choir The grass withers, the flower fades, when the breath of the Lord blows upon it, Surely the people is grass.

Choir:

Who knows if the Spirit of Man mounts upward, or if the Spirit of the beast goes down to the earth? He who is joined with all the living has hope, for a living dog is better than a dead lion. For the living know that they will die, but the dead know nothing.

Readers: °"'"Hymn of Praise-No. 319: "Come, Ye Faithful, Raise the Strain" (St. Kevin)

Prayer of Invocation and Choral Amen Naked from his mother's womb he came, as naked as he came he will depart again, nothing to take with him after all his efforts. What does he gain by all his futile toil, spending his days in gloominess - privations - deep anxieties - distress - and fits of anger?

The Reading of the Scripture Mark 16 "The Day of Resurrection" Fred Prentice

"Easter Dialogue for: Three Readers, Congregation, Choir, Brass, Organ, and Chimes

The wages of sin is death! Choir:

Readers: If a man die, shall he live again? Where could I go to escape your Spirit? Where could I flee from your presence?

People: If I climb the heavens you are there - there, too, if I lie in hell - even the darkness is not dark to thee!

Readers: Though I pass through the vall,ey of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil. You will reveal the path of life to me. I shall not die! ... but I shall live, and recount the deeds of the Lord. I tell you most solemnly~ you will be weeping and wailing, while the world will rejoice; You wilt be sorrowful, but your sorrow will turn to joy.

THE SERVICE OF DEDICATION People: No, I shall not die, I shall live to recite the deeds of the Lord: though

the Lord has punished me often, He has not abandoned me to death. The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life.

Hymn of Commitment-No. 318: "Christ, the Lord, Is Risen Today" (Easter Hymn)

The O:ffertory-"O:lfertoire" Donfon Charles Smith, Flute

Choir: Death is swallowed up in victory. 0 death, where is thy victory? 0 death, where is thy sting? The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. 0 thanks be to God who gives us the victory. The victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. The Doxology

Our Covenant to Keep So long as we are able, we shall proclaim the death and

resurrection of Jesus Christ for the salvation of the world. The Benediction The Gloria Patri Organ Postlude

GLORIFY GOD BY YOUR OBEDIENCE TO THE GOSPEL OF CHRIST.

Readers: Now sentence is being passed on this world. Now the prince of this world is to be overthrown. Sin entered the world through one man and through sin, death. And thus death has spread through the whole human race. Because everyone has sinned. And just as sin reigned wherever there was death, so grace will reign to bring eternal life. Thanks to the righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ our Lord.

People: But the truth is that Christ has been raised from death, as the guarantee that those who sleep in death shall also be raised.

000Ushers will seat those waiting. 0"The Day of Resurrection" - Please see insert.

Readers:

People:

Consider yourselves dead men brought back to life. So that as Christ was raised from the dead by the Father's glory, we too might live a new life. Jesus said, "I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me though he die, yet shall he live. And whoever lives and believes in me shall never die."

This is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son: Anyone who has the Son has life. Anyone who does not have the Son does not have life. "Because I live, you shall live also."

People:

Readers: The Lord is Risen! He is risen indeed!

This is the day that the Lord has made. Let us be glad and rejoice in it.

The Lord is risen! He is risen indeed! This is the day that the Lord has made. Let us be glad and rejoice in it!

HALLELUJAH! THE LORD IS RISEN!

We have passed out of death and into life, and of this we can be sure, because we love our brothers. If you refuse to love, you must remain dead. He who says that he loves God and hates his brother, he is a liar. My children, our love is not to be just words, or mere talk, but some thing real and active. If you then have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, put to death what is earthly in you!

Therefore if anyone is in Christ he is a new creation. The old has passed away, behold, the new has come.

So then my brothers, because of God's many mercies, I make this appeal to you. Offer yourselves as a living sacrifice to God, dedicated to his service. This is the true worship that you should offer. Let love be genuine, hate what is evil, hold fast to what is good.

God was in Christ, reconciling the world to himself and entrusting to us the message of reconciliation; so we are ambassadors for Christ. God making His appeal through us.

0 sing to the Lord a new song, for He has done marvelous things. His right hand and His holy arm have won for Him the victory. Make a joyful noise to the Lord all the earth! Break forth into joyous songs of praise! With trumpets, and the sound of the horn, make a joyful noise before the Lord! 0 sing to the Lord a new song, for He has done marvelous things. Sing to the Lord a new song!

In the Beginning of Creation Daniel Pinkham (Senior Choir)

Thou are as mysterious as the vast solitudes of the night And yet art as familiar to us as the light of the sun. The Third Lesson Isaiah 9 and 40 (Josie Tedford)

The King Shall Come Paul Fetler (Senior Choir)

The King shall come when morning dawns And light triumphant breaks; When beauty gilds the eastern hills And life to joy awakes. The King shall come when morning dawns, And earth's night is past; 0 haste the rising of that morn, The day that aye shall last; And let the endless bliss begin, By weary saints foretold, When right shall triumph over wrong, And truth shall be extolled.

A mighty fortress is our God, A bulwark never failing; Our helper Ile, amid the flood Of mortal ills prevailing. For still our ancient foe Doth seek to work us woe; His craft and power are great; And armed with cruel hate, On earth is not his equal.

THE CHURCH'S ONE FOUNDATION

Tell me the old, old story, Tell me the old, old story, Tell me the old, old story, Of Jesus and llis love.

The Church's one foundation Is Jesus Christ her Lord; She is His new creation Ily water and the word; From he::iven He came and sought her To be ilis holy bride; With His ovm blood He bought her, And for her life He died.

Tell me the same old story, When you have cause to fear That thls world's empty glory ls costing me too dear. Yes, and when that uorld's elory Is dawning on my soul, Tell me the old, old story: "Christ Jesus makes thee whole." Tell me the old, old story, Tell me the old, old story, Tell me the old, old story, Of Jesus and His love.

Elect from every nation, Yet one o'er all the earth, Her charter of salvation One Lord, one faith, one birth;

Guide me, 0 thou great Jehovah, Pilgrim through this barren land: I am weak, but thou art mighty; Hold me with thy powerful hand: Bread of heaven, Feed me till I want no more. Bread of heaven, Feed me till I want no more. Rock of Ases, cleft for me,

Let me hide myself in Thee; Let the water and the blood, From Thy riven side which flowed, Be of sin the double cure, Cleanse me from its guilt and power,

While I draw this fleeting breath, When my eye Lf.ds close in death, ~n1en I soar to worlds unknown, See Thee on TI1y judgment throne, Rock of ages, cleft for me, Let me hide myself in Thee.

When I survey the wondrous cross On which the Prince of glory died, My richest ga1n I count but loss And pour contempt on all my pride.

THE OLD RUGGED CROSS

On .Jordan's stormy banks I stand, And cost a wishful eye To Canaan's fair and happy land, 1~1ere my possessions lie. I RID bound for the promised land I am bound for the promised land; O who will come and go with me? I am bound for the promised land.

GOD OF OUR FATHERS WHOSE ALHIGHTY HAND ON .JORDAN'S STOR1'1Y BANKS

God of our fathers, whose almighty hand Leads forth in beauty all the starry band Of shining worlds in splendor through the skies, Our grateful songs before Thy throne arise.

When shall I reach that happy place And be forever blest? When shall I see my father's face, And in His bosom rest? I am bound for the promised land, I am bound for the promised land; O who will come and go with me? I am bound for the promised land.

Thy love divine hath led us in the past, In this free land by Thee our lot is cast; Be Thou our ruler, guardian, guide and stay, Thy word our law, Thy paths our chosen way.

From war's alarms, from deadly pestilence, Be Thy strong arm our ever sure defense; Thy true relig1on in our hearts increase, TI1y bounteous goodness nourish us in peace.

Refresh Thy people on their toilsome wny, Lead us from night to never-ending day; Fill all our lives with love and grace divine, And glory, laud and p r a Ls e be ever Thi.ne. A.HEN.

WHEN I SURVEY THE WONDROUS CROSS

Were the whole reolm of nature mine, That were a present far too small; Love so amazing, so divine, Demands my soul, my life, my all.

On a hill far away stood an old rugged cross, TI1e emblem of suffering and shame; And I love that old cross Where the dearest and best For a world of lost sinners was slain. So I'll cherish the old rugged cross THl my trophies at lost I lay d own ; I will cling to the old rugged cross, And exchange it some day for a crown.

See, from His head, His hands, His feet, Sorrow and love flow mingled down; Did e'er such love and sorrow meet., Or thorns compose so rich a crown?

AMAZING GRACE

To the old rugged cross I will ever be true, Its shnme and reproach gladly bear; Th en He' 11 call me s ome d ny to my home far away, Where His glory forever I' 11 shar c . So I' Ll cherish the old rugged cross Till my trophies at last I lay down; I will cling to the old rugged cross, And exchange it some day for a crown.

Amozlne grace! how sweet the sound, That saved a wretch like ne ! I once was lost, but now am found, Was blind but now I see.

"Twas grace that taught my heart to fear, And grace my fears relieved; How precious did that grace appear The hour. I first believed!
