To be returned Friday 10th August

On Tuesday July 24th, Year 8 students had theopportunity to be involved in a ull day o science and

CSI style investigation at Warragul Regional College,

presented by the company CSI World.

All students learnt the basics o investigating a crime

scene such as ngerprinting suspects, and getting

ngerprints rom smooth and rough suraces. They

practiced collecting trace evidence such as bre and hair

samples and how the dierent shapes and orms o blood

splatter can aect the outcome o a case.

Each group o students then became booted and suitedand headed o to investigate their own crime scene.

Each group o students applied their skills, collected

evidence and used UV light to check or any unseen

blood samples. Students then worked together to

eliminate suspects and determine.who did it?

Congratulations to all groups or solving the crime

correctly and especially to the boys o group 6 who

could back up their accusation with the most amount o

    evidence.

Thank you to BBLLEN or their support and assistance.

PS came to Warragul Regional College as part o a transition

program. Prior to the day, the Drouin West students were paired

up with students rom 7_3, and wrote letters o introduction to

each other. On the day, the students rom 7_3 taught the younger ones how

to paint a sock sh using a range o dierent vibrant coloured

inks, and helped in the construction o the nal product. Once

nished, the sh were hung to dry and the year 7s took the

primary school students on a tour o the school grounds. The

little kids were amazed at how big WRC is and were concerned

about getting lost i they got separated rom their buddies.

Miss Crookston hoped that the highlight o the day or the Drouin

West students wouldve been the art activity, but unortunately it

was the visit to the canteen!

The connection between the two grades was initiated by the act

that the two grades were taught by Mrs. and Miss Crookston! Both 7_3 and grade 4/5A had an excellent day and were very

impressed with the artwork they produced together.

Welcome back to all students, sta and

parents to Term 3. In ootball terms we are

entering the 3rd quarter o the year, also

known as the premiership quarter. This is

the term when students can really get a lot

o work done and progress their learning ina positive way. I am pleased to be able to

report a very smooth start to the term so ar.

    woth rdig Goig Digitl

Last term we trialled our rst ull digital version o Worth Reading.

This edition o Worth Reading will be our last paper version o the

College Newsletter. From next edition onwards Worth Reading will

be distributed in an electronic ormat via PDF or through a link to

the schools website. Parents will have the PDF or link sent to their

    phones and/or email addresses.

The key reason or this change is cost and eciency. The current

version o the newsletter has enormous costs in terms o paper, photocopying, postage, envelopes, sta time to collate, address

and package 720 envelopes each ortnight. The money saved on

this can be better directed to other priorities at the school.

Moving to a digital medium also allows improvement in the uture

including the possible use o sound and video embedded into the

    newsletter.

For any amilies who do not have access to email/mobile phone

the school would be happy to continue to provide a paper copy

o the newsletter. Please contact Anne Eacott in the Oce

(56239900) to let us know i this is the case.

Thank you to all o the amilies who have been in contact with the

school to discuss issues, concerns or points o clarication about

their students report. The report to parents is an important way

o linking parents, students and teachers together in a partnership

school to discuss any concerns or queries you may have with your

    childs report.

Year Level Teams are currently targeting students out o uniorm.

Parents can help us by ensuring that students own the correct

uniorm, that they wear it to school and that they have a note

advance to all students and parents or your support to ensure all

    My name is Mike

    Shone and Im

    participating in the

    Principal Internship

    Program at WarragulRegional College

    throughout Semester

    Two. The purpose

    o the internship

    program is to provide

    an opportunity or

    participants to refect on, develop

and practice their leadership skills and

    knowledge while shadowing and being

mentored by a respected Principal. It is

also an opportunity or the host school,

in this case Warragul Regional College,

to benet rom having a leader secondedto the school or six months. Earlier this

year I was oered the opportunity to

participate in the program, and was also

asked to nominate a school and Principal

I would like to work with. I chose Warragul

Regional College because o its strong

ocus on student learning and progressive

    educational programs, its reputation or

having motivated and high achieving sta

and because o its thorough procedures

    that support student wellbeing. Throughout

Semester Two I will be one o three

    Assistant Principals at the College.

I studied at Ballarat University and my

main teaching areas are Outdoor and

    Environmental Studies, Health and Human

Development and junior Health and PE.

Ater graduating, I travelled overseas andworked as a volunteer in Central and South

America, which had a proound impact on

my values and belies. For the past ve and

a hal years I have worked as a teacher and

    school leader at Korumburra Secondary

College, and last year I was Acting

Assistant Principal at Korumburra. I am

married with three children, Isabella (aged

    10), Dylan (7) and Jasper (4). Outside o

work my main interests are bushwalking

and sea kayaking, and I am a keen

    Hawthorn supporter, which I understand

is looked avourably on by a number opeople at Warragul RC (although not

    everyone!!)

In my rst two weeks I have been very

    impressed with Warragul Regional College.

There is a discernibly positive culture

amongst the sta and students, with many

    exciting conversations occurring around

    teaching approaches and curriculum

    development that maximise student

learning. I have met some parents through

School Council meetings, and I look

orward to working with all sta, students

and parents over the next six months tosupport improvements in Learning and

    Teaching at Warragul.

During the recent school holidays I went on a

study tour to Japan with nineteen other Victorian

teenagers. It was the best experience o my lie. We

had three days o intensive language classes and

the rest was sightseeing and cultural activities. The

cultural activities were dressing in a summer kimono,

Japanese drumming, calligraphy writing and fower

arrangement. The cities we visited were Osaka, Kyoto,

Nara and Hiroshima. My avourite things about the

trip were the homestay, high school visit and the

    Hiroshima peace memorial park.

I am an old hand at breaky clubs now. They

run pretty smoothly and the students love

to hang out in a warm place on the cold

An extended part o my role is to engage

with the schools wider community such

as parents, church groups clubs and any

group that has an invested interest in the

school. On several occasions I have gone

to students homes to meet with the parents

to discuss where their child is at with

their schooling. I have met with Pastors to

discuss my role as a chaplain to see how

they could support me and the school
