The King’s Brass Tim Zimmerman, director

As stewards of God’s resources, we try not to print an excess of bulletins. We invite you to bring this bulletin with you when you return for the evening service.

WelcomeTo Our Guests,We especially welcome you today! More information about our church is available on our website at firstpresaugusta.org. You can also visit our welcome desk in the Welcome Center, located directly behind the sanctuary.

Spiritual CareIf you would like to speak to someone about what it means to know Jesus Christ or you have any spiritual need or question, please use one of the prayer cards in the pew rack to contact our pastors. Our church elders are also available to speak with you. An elder and his wife will be standing next to the pastor following the service to talk or pray with you.

Children’s Check-inWe are committed to the highest level of protection possible for the children placed in our care on Sundays and at all church events. For this reason, we require parents of newborns through fifth grade children to check in their children before they go to the nursery, Sunday School, Catechism, Children’s Church, or any other children’s activity. Kiosks are available in the Narthex and in the Children’s Lobby. The process is quick and easy, and volunteers are available to assist you.

Children’s WorshipWe offer a specially designed program for children in pre-K through fourth grade during the morning services. Leaders will escort children from the sanctuary to their classrooms during the hymn of preparation. Parents are welcome to accompany them to observe where to pick them up after the service. Children in pre-K through second grade remain in their classrooms until they are picked up by a parent.

Nursery Nurseries are provided for infants and toddlers during the worship services and Sunday School. We provide a Mother/Infant Room (#160) located in the Ebenezer Building behind the sanctuary. The Telfair Room (#100) is designated as the Family Room. It is a great place for parents with restless children to be able to listen to the sermon and also train our youngest worshipers how to participate in the services. Both rooms are equipped with live video feed of the worship services. Ushers are available to direct you.

Additional Seating Please see ushers for overflow seating.

We are very glad to have you worshiping our gracious God with us today.

Flowers The sanctuary flowers are given today to the glory of God.

The Meditation—You Are the Image and the Hope ..........................................Berthier

Trusting God

The Prelude—Recueillement ....................................................................Noel-Gallon

†The Call to Worship ...............................................................from Ephesians 3:14-18Come and kneel before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth derives its name.

From his glorious riches he may strengthen us with power through his Spirit so that Christ may dwell in our hearts through faith.

And being rooted and established in love, together with all the Lord’s holy people,

May we grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ.

The Lord be with you.And with your spirit.Let us worship God!

The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him. He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy. For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him, and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross. Once you were alienated from God and were enemies in your minds because of your evil behavior. But now he has reconciled you by Christ’s physical body through death to present you holy in his sight, without blemish and free from accusation— if you continue in your faith, established and firm, and do not move from the hope held out in the gospel. This is the gospel that you heard and that has been proclaimed to every creature under heaven… —Colossians 1:15-23a

†The Confession of Faith ............................................................. The Apostles’ Creed

Although it was not written by the apostles, the Apostles’ Creed is a concise summary of their teachings. It originated as a baptismal confession, probably in the second century, and developed into its present form by the sixth or seventh century.

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, and born of the virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended into hell.* The third day he rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From there he will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic** church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

*suffered separation from God**universal

§The Personal Confession of Sin

Almighty God, we have willfully sinned in your presence. We have forsaken the Creator’s fountain of living waters for the temporary pleasures of this world. We have robbed you of your glory by clinging to idols instead of delighting in your promises. We have despised the Son and disbelieved the gospel. Forgive us for living for self and being self-righteous. Forgive us for doubting your love and disregarding your Holy Word. Oh Lord, may your Holy Spirit give us broken and contrite hearts that you will accept; let us not minimize our sin, shift blame or make excuses. Your Word declares that against you, you only, have we sinned and done what is evil in your sight. Soften our hearts and make us quick to confess, and eager to forsake our sin. Open our eyes to see your abundant grace and find true rest in our Savior, Jesus Christ. In your holy name we pray, Amen.

†The Pastoral Prayer and The Lord’s PrayerOur Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen.

The Assurance of Pardoning Grace ...................................................... 1 Peter 2:9-10But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. Once you were not a people, but now you are the people of God; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.

The Shorter Catechism:

Q. 90 How is the Word to be read and heard in order to become effective for salvation?

A. For the Word to become effective for salvation, we must pay careful attention to it, prepare ourselves, and pray for understanding. We must also receive it with faith and love, treasure it in our hearts, and practice it in our lives.
