WelcomeWe are very glad to have you worshiping our gracious God with us today.

Flowers The sanctuary flowers are given today to the glory of God.

To Our Guests,We especially welcome you today! More information about our church is available on our website at firstpresaugusta.org.

Spiritual CareIf you would like to speak to someone about what it means to know Jesus Christ or you have any spiritual need or question, please use one of the prayer cards in the pew rack to contact one of our pastors. Our church elders are also available to speak with you. An elder will be standing next to the pastor following the service.

Children’s Check-inWe are committed to the highest level of protection possible for the children placed in our care on Sundays and at all church events. For this reason, we require parents of newborns through fifth grade children to check in their children before they go to the nursery, Sunday School, Catechism, Children’s Church or any other children’s activity. Several kiosks are available in the Welcome Center. The process is quick and easy, and volunteers are available if you need assistance checking in.

Children’s WorshipWe offer a specially designed program for children in pre-k through fourth grade during the morning services. A leader will escort children from the sanctuary to their classrooms during the hymn of preparation. Parents are welcome to accompany them to observe where to pick them up after the service. Parents of children in pre-k through second grade are asked to pick up their children following Sunday School or the 11 a.m. worship service.

Nursery Nurseries are provided for infants and toddlers during the worship services and Sunday School. We also provide a Mother/Infant Room located beside Nursery 1 which is equipped with live video feed of the worship services. Ushers are available to direct you.

Additional Seating Additional seating for morning and evening worship services is available each week in St. Andrew’s Hall.

As stewards of God’s resources, we try not to print an excess of bulletins. We invite you to bring this bulletin with you when you return for the evening service.

†The Call to Worship .........................................................................taken from HoseaCome, let us return to the Lord. He will revive us; he will restore us, that we may live in his presence.

Let us acknowledge the Lord; let us press on to know him.

As surely as the sun rises, he will appear;

He will come to us like the winter rains, like the spring rains that water the earth.

The Lord be with you.And with your spirit.Let us worship God!

Who says you’re invisible? I see you all around.I see you in the starry sky and on the snowy ground;I see you in each tiny flower and in the tallest tree.I see you, God; you’re visible to me. Who says you’re invisible? I see you everywhere.I see you in the gentle lamb and in the mighty bear;I see you in each drop of rain and in the deep blue sea.I see you, God; you’re visible to me. I see you in a hand stretched out in friendship;I see you in a baby’s smiling face.I see you when your people work togetherTo make this world a better place. Who says you’re invisible? I see you more and more.I see you in the miracles that stretch from shore to shore;I see you in the loving eyes of friends and family.I see you, God, you’re visible to me!

The Response

The grass withers and the flowers fall,But the Word of our God stands forever.

The New Testament Lesson .................................................................... Hebrews 2:14-26page 1864 in the pew Bible

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, and born of the virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended into hell.* The third day he rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From there he will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic** church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

*suffered separation from God**universal

Heavenly Father, you asked for my hands, that you might use them for your purpose. I gave them for a moment, then withdrew them, for the work was hard. You asked for my mouth to speak against injustice. I gave you a whisper that I might not be accused. You asked for my eyes to see the pain of poverty. I closed them, for I did not want to see. You asked for my life, that you might work through me. I gave a small part, that I might not get too involved. Lord, forgive my calculated efforts to serve you—only when it is convenient for me to do so, only in those places where it is safe to do so, and only with those who make it easy to do so. Father, forgive me, renew me, send me out as a usable instrument, that I might take seriously the meaning of your cross. Amen.

†The Pastoral Prayer and The Lord’s PrayerOur Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen.

The Assurance of Pardoning Grace ..........................................................1 Peter 2:24He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; by his wounds you have been healed.

The Offertory—Lamb of God ....................................................... arr. Craig Courtney

Words and Music: Twila Paris | Arranged: Craig Courtney | ©2002 Straight Way Music | Mountain Spring Music

Your only Son, no sin to hide,But you have sent him from your sideTo walk upon this guilty sod,And to become the Lamb of God.

Your gift of love they crucified, They laughed and scorned him as he died. The humble King they named a fraudAnd sacrificed the Lamb of God.

O Lamb of God, sweet Lamb of God,I love the holy Lamb of God.O wash me in your precious blood,My Jesus Christ, the Lamb of God.

I was so lost, I should have died,But you have brought me to your sideTo be led by your staff and rod And to be called a lamb of God.

The Shorter Catechism, Question 62:

Q. What are the reasons for the fourth commandment?

A. The reasons for the fourth commandment are these: God allows us six days of the week to take care of our own affairs; he claims the seventh day as his own; he set the example; and he blesses the Sabbath.

My soul will magnify the Lord;I rejoice in God my Savior,In the wonder of his favor. For he has done great things for me;He was mindful of his servant.Every age shall call me blessed. The hope of Abraham comeIn the giving of a Son;For he who promised is mightyIn remembering his mercy.

My soul will magnify the LordFor his grace to those who fear himThrough every generation. The proud he scatters to the windAs the ruler’s strength is broken,And the rich are left with nothing. The humble lifted high,And the hungry satisfied; Our portion and our treasure,Our hope and help forever.

The Bread—Narrow Little Road .................................................................... Leverett

The Cup—How Sweet the Name of Jesus Sounds ..................................................Newton

The Lord’s Supper

Oh, I believe in the love of God: It is an orphan’s wildest dream; It is a narrow little road; It is an ever-widening desert stream.

Oh and I, I will leave this road for the narrow, Oh and I, I will leave this road for the narrow.

It is portrayed in the bread and wine: Oh, let it fortify my bones, ’Cause it is more than just a sign; It is the fountain from that desert stone.

The love of God is the hymn of hope: Let the needy join the throng, Let the widow hear and cope, Let the crippled rise to sing this song.

How sweet the name of Jesus soundsIn a believer’s ear!It soothes his sorrow, heals his woundsAnd drives away his fear.

It makes the wounded spirit wholeAnd calms the troubled breast.’Tis manna to the hungry soulAnd to the weary rest.

’Til then I would thy love proclaim With ev’ry fleeting breath, And may the music of thy name Refresh my soul in death.

Jesus, my Shepherd, Brother, Friend, My Prophet, Priest, and King, My Lord, my life, my way, my end, Accept the praise I bring.
