Worship to Stir the SoulThen you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. Jeremiah 29:12

Worship is the language we use to give thanks and praise to God. It puts us in touch with a God who is transcendent as well as intimate. The goal of worship is praise. The result of our worship is that we are focused, strengthened and joyful as we carry the good news of the gospel out into the world.

At First Presbyterian Church, our Sunday services are both warm and traditional, offering a worship service rich with liturgy in the Reformed tradition. We unite our voices in prayer, praise, confession and common song to create a community, and our choir and organ give expression to our faith in ways beyond words.

Our half-hour Wednesday Worship service offers an oasis of calm in the middle of a busy week from September through May. On the first Wednesday of each month during that time, we offer communion, as we do several times throughout the year on Sundays.

Worship stirs our souls and feeds our spirits as we glorify the God we seek to serve.

Wednesday WorshipWhat better time and place for spiritual renewal than in the middle of the day in the middle of the week in the middle of Center City Charlotte?

This 30-minute service of quiet reflection, music and message is offered at noon on Wednesdays, September through May.

Wednesday Worship begins this fall with the eight-week sermon series Find Joy in the Ordinary, which explores strengthening our spiritual lives by looking at many of our daily undertakings in a new light.

Following the Wednesday service, all are invited to a community lunch, Eat@First, in Wood Fellowship Hall to share life together. $8, cash or check.

“Belonging to a church becomes a lot more meaningful and life-giving when we

are involved in being the church.”Pen Peery, Senior Pastor

Music: Making a Joyful Noise The music ministry at First Presbyterian Church provides opportunities for worship, service and education, while conveying the word of God to others through music. We offer vocal choirs for all ages and have a tradition of handbell choirs for children and youth.

Sanctuary Choir (Adults): This choir leads music for Sunday services. It is open to any interested singer. No prior choral experience is necessary. The ability to read music is appreciated but not required. A weekly commitment to rehearsals and Sunday morning services is expected. Contact Will Young ([email protected]).

Youth Choir (Grades 6-12): This group sings several times a year during worship with the Sanctuary Choir, as well as at Singing in the Season.

Children’s Choirs: Children participate in age-appropriate groups and sing in multiple settings throughout the year. For details on Intro to Music (TK-grade 1), Carol Choir (grades 2-3) and Kirk Choir (grades 4-5), contact Kelly Potts ([email protected]).

Ivey Ringers (Grades 9-12): This auditioned group of experienced ringers plays in Worship and on special occasions throughout the year, including a Christmas Eve concert. Ivey Ringers tour in the summer, both nationally and internationally.

Knox Ringers (Grades 6-12): This group is open to both experienced ringers and those who have not rung before. The Knox Ensemble rings in Worship several times throughout the year and in other ringing opportunities.

Calvin Ringers (Grades 3-5): This group is an introduction to handbells and chimes for children.

Canterbury Handbells (adults): This group is open to experienced and inexperienced ringers.
