WYP BACKGROUND
The World Youth Parliament is a non-political, non-profit organization registered in Kenya and is a specialty youth organization that focuses on youth groups, NGO’s and other such organizations which are doing some or the other kind of work for or with the youth. Founded in 2007 [by David Shitsimi and Alfred Daniel] the World Youth Parliament now has over 50 national chapters, partnerships and affiliations of over 100 organizations to produce annual and special youth empowerment programs across several countries worldwide.
The World Youth Parliament operates offices in five regions: Nairobi for Africa, Perth for Asia-Pacific, Geneva for Europe, Rio City for Latin America, New York for North America.
VISION To be a leading world class organization of choice for youth
empowerment and development. MISSION
To assist youth worldwide by providing a platform for unity of purpose and empowering them to participate in leadership and development processes towards realization of a generation of youth that are responsible, democratic, knowledgeable and accountable.
OBJECTIVES 4.1. To establish a forum for dialogue and action on youth-related issues
between the youth of the world and any other organizations or entities involved in the youth and youth groups.
4.2. To mobilize the creativity, enthusiasm and vigor of the youth of the world to contribute to the
• advancement of humanity through the engagement of the youth in leadership and development programs.
4.3. To present a unified youth vision on challenges and issues of the youth to politicians, decision makers and all other spheres of influence.
4.4. To facilitate and encourage three layer networks (local, national, international organizations) to work together on common policies, strategies and goals towards implementing the next steps for youth.

Conference Theme and objectives:
The Conference is being organized jointly by the World Youth Parliament, strategic partners and other stakeholders around the world aimed at: to jointly explore, reflect and deepen the different dimensions of youth empowerment across the globe. The Conference shall also better define the needs of youth organizations, youth workers and youth leaders of all regions of the world, and to contribute to sustainable strategies, with a youth mainstreaming approach, towards more effective and efficient global youth empowerment processes. The theme for the conference is:
“Global youth empowerment - a major development asset”
From 17/10/2011 to 23/10/2011, two thousand (2000) youths from Africa, Asia-Pacific, Latin America, North America and Europe will come together to discuss the concept of Global Youth Empowerment. These young people from different parts of the world use the concept of “global empowerment” or related practices in their daily work as youths across all disciplines. They are expected to develop recommendations around the following list of topics:

prominently displayed conference advertisements/ stationery also mentioned on the two WYP documentaries supporting the events.
