The WorldStar Student Awards competition is owned and produced by the World Packaging Organisation. It is an international packaging design competition for students – undergraduate or graduate – from countries around the world who are involved in projects in the field of packaging, including structural design and/or graphic design.

The competition is open to students who have won a legitimate local award in their region or country.

The WorldStar Student Awards are designed to encourage and show the talents of students as well as new and innovative ideas and thinking in the field of packaging. Through the publicity of WPO's global publications and website, student winners are provided the opportunity to gain professional acknowledgement and entrance into a career as a packaging professional.

The 2016 WorldStar Student Awards was managed by the Institute of Packaging South Africa on behalf of WPO and is administered by Syndicate Graphics. This brochure is a complete lists of all the winners and certificates awarded for the 2016 awards.

A special Save Food Award has also been awarded to an entry that best met the save food criteria as determined by the judges.

Moreover, this organic contentoften comes in cumbersome, non-biodegradable plastic packaging which needs to be disposed of. This packagingdoes not offer sufficient breathability and protection against mildew, etc. Every garden or hardware centre shouldhave an easy and environmentally friendly alternative to conventional culture substrate packaging, one which doesnot spoil the natural benefits of balcony planting right from the start.

This is a honey packaging, all is made in kraft paper, looks like the shape of the honeycomb afteropened the box, suggesting the checkers board.The internal structure of the packaging, by folding, in turn can be turned into checkers board.

The requirement here was to develop a multi-purpose packag-ing. A portion of the package may be re-used, reducing daily waste. My product is aimed at the average consumer. I planned and designed the teapot and theassociated packaging with the aim to make tea drinking a cosy ceremony again. “Värma” is ateapot, as well as a warmer. The challenge was to find a form that was usable as warmer and at the same timealso protects well and surrounds the teapot.

Significantly higher volume capacity on load carriers/pallets can be achieved by subtle changes in the packaging mate-rial alone. Bottles, and canisters in particular, have a low volume utilisation ratio on the pallet due to their shape. A packaging material with greatly improved stacking properties needed to be developed to enable more prod-uct to be transported while taking up the same amount of space. As well as the environmental aspects,economic aspects were a significant focus behind this development.

With its selected materials and the usage scenario, it has gone beyond packaging waste and integrated with the principle of sustainabil-ity. “798” Wine series

The package containing two glasses and a pequi liquor glass bottle represents the Brazilian Cerrado biome. It’smade of corrugated fiberboard, a material of easy recycling, and the product is protected from potential damage like bumps and drops.

Packaging for sustainable transportation of leafy vegetables. It meets ideal criteria of mechanical protection; Health conditions; stacking; ergonomics; identification, ventila-tion and palatable measures. The project was made exclusivelyfor leafy vegetables, since these foods have physical characteristics that are more fragile than other vegeta-blesand therefore require a specific packaging.

This production works is designed by a figurative manner in the form of the original characteristic of bananas, not only does it reflect in it’s shape and the way of opening, making it funny when consumers open but also suggests that this product is healthy, fresh new and addictive free, breaking the original concept of product casing parcel up.

The packing, combining with the model of 3D jigsaw of animals, has something creative and interesting, and the concise appearance enjoys the advantages of attracting consumers. At the same time, it can be used as a ornament after taking out the towel, which emphasizes the possibility of the sustainable development.

The works in the traditional bottle shape gives the modern architectural style of the 798 lines and the industrial architecture combining "armor", to express the modern youth pioneer consciousness and traditional sentiment coexistence design and life attitude.

This product can be well instead of disposable plastic cups and traditional paper cups, graphic design, sales of good appearance and innovative, sustainable development, and the advantages of easy processing and manufacturing, have the effect of green environmental protection.

“Hidden fruit" is inspired by the ancients with leaves packaging fruit, and deep in the leaves of the fruit of the concept, because it represents the quality of fruit, I gave different expressions of whimsy for fruit, like hiding in the leaves don’t want to be found in fun, all kinds of fruit, fun and has a series of sense to attract consumers, special karyotype, opened from the middle into two and a half, innovative, can buy two boxes.

For us badminton players this design perfectly solved the problem about getting the stuckball out from the badminton cube after detroying one. at the same time the badmin-ton tube can stretch out and back flexibly for converting the length of the tube in order to restore theballs without occupying space and wasting resources.

Orange peel is thick skinned, the packaging for peeling orange. Package with a cartoon image of the animal, can attract children to take the initiative to eat oranges, and intake of vitamin nutrition. Package with orange peel, orange peel can make children conveni-ent, avoid scratching.

Six glutinous rice cake packaging is made of a Kraft paper with a rabbit-like tumbler packaging, beautiful and novel. The whole packaging uses a lovely image of an explosion head and character’s hair uses transparent heat-resistant plastice material,to fold the expansive space of popcorn in mezzanine. Inspired by the ancient element working tools which people daily used, the elements into white wine packaging design. A whole day of busy farmer took his hat to back to home, hung it on the wall, it represents the end of a day of hard work, can sit down to rest and begin to eat plain of dinner, give oneself 30cl liquor(San Liang in Chinese means 30cl), receive slightly drunk till their dream.

Adequately thinking about Blade through manufacturing programme in carton construc-tion, I tried my best to increase the paper usage within losing the display function. It can reduce both the material & manufacturing costs,a piece of A4 size paper can produce two pieces of packaging. The Usage is over than 95%

This work is inspired by the raw material of soap-honeylocust. The green shell of honeylocust is taken as the shape of the soap box. The fruit of the honeylocust is replaced by the soap, with sponge with water-absorption and buffering function used as the stuffing material. Through the clearance between the sponge and the shell of the bottom, close the soap box place it upside down, and soap water will be drained from the tip end. The soap box is a combination of function and inspiration.

The badminton packaging is modified on the basis of the original in the light of the customer convenience and packaging processing problems, which can shrink from up to the down.It solve the problem of that badminton can not be takedconveniently. At the same time it can reduce the packaging volume after using badminton so that it can be reduced easily.The material use the gradable plasticsgreen. So it is environmental-friendly.

The packaging uses the crushed corn straw as raw material, mixed by water soluble adhesive,to make buffer cardboard and carton, used as the packaging of ceramic or glass. In terms of structure, the side of the box edges folded inward to form a groove, make the package more fit the objects inside, so it have a better effect on buffer shock.

Outer packaging of camera lens using kraft paper to do cardboard box.Internal cushioning material is corrugated cardboard. We cut and fold a pair of corrugated cardboard into a solid buffer structure.

Desiccants are usually put in the packing which are easily eaten mistakenly. Therefore, to solve this problem, we improve the bottle caps with adding gaskets. Because the gaskets can be rotated and adjusted, so the desiccants can be put in the bottle cap avoiding dropping. At the same time, the gaskets are made by starch plastic to enhance the safety of this product.

Instant coffee usually brews in disposable cups, so sometimes it can not be stirred well; coffee may not resolve. Now, we improve its packing. The packing of coffee is made by coated Kraft which is more environmental. What’s more, adding a staw,stirring rod or stirring spoon, which are made by starch plastic, to the packing can solve the problem that the current packing has.

The package has been designed for tea. It is made out of cubes that are attached to each other in a certain way which make the whole package movable, and that could make the visual design change while turning the cubes together.

The opportunity have been identified for TetraPak and Super M to not only educate, but also encourage consumers to recycle. The shape of the pack is specifically designed to be crushed after consumption so that the pack will take up as little space as possible in the recycling bin.

The gift carton features: Converts into storage caddy; assembly instructions on side panel for easy reference Built in hanger feature for gym towels or other items Moisture and water resistant, making it suitable to hang in home bathrooms Contains quality multifunctional cosmetic – and promotional products

I re-packaged Coca-Cola 6 packs to promote recycling. Instead of plastic, I used cardboard as it is more likely to be recycled and less harmful to the environment. It offers an incentive which promises a free 330ml Coke if the cans are returned to the store to be recycled.

We created a promotional package for Consol glass, that promotes recycling, a literal ‘message in a bottle’ which is surrounded by a littered beach scene. We try to enhance images on social media to hide the reality, but glass must be recycled to improve the image of our beaches.

This pack is simple to produce yet eye catching. It has a uniquely different window cut out and also a pilfer proof top with t-locks. The carry handle and compact design of the pack makes for simpler handling through the supply chain from manufacturing to the end user.

The task was to look at an existing breakfast food brand and design packaging that communicates in a unique way. The new Pop Tarts can be consumed straight out of the box or pre heated in a toaster or microwave.

The Pantie Line is a new range of panties launched by JT One to suit a girl’s every occasion. The Promo Pack consists of four different panty styles: the thong, the bikini, the boy-shorts and the briefs, conveniently packed together to suit consumer’s busy lifestyles, in both style and comfort.

My brief was to redesign packaging of an existing product. I chose Whole Earth Farms because there isn’t enough indication to show they are catering for pets. I redesigned the packaging to show the indication. Hang and pour system and a reusable bag function added for better user experience.

The Consol Glass Jar is an iconic product of Consol and my packaging design uses this to call attention to the simple ways of reusing the product. The cover’s simple equivoca-tion provokes the viewer into unsheathing a variety of suggestions and information on the importance of glass recycling in general.

A design inspired by the tea basket, the package for tea is subtly crafted using complex macramé knots. The small gaps are placed to allow air inside and keep the contain fresh.

A packaging for Ceylon Tea, designed like a tea basket to maintain the freshness of its contents. Woven using sheaths and fiber yarns. The design contains an integration of several patterns of accentuate its value. The low weight low cost package is a novel introduction for mass production.

A gift packaging for Ceylon tea, designed using traditional Sri Lankan weaving patterns (dumbara rataa) and banana fiber material. The packaging comes under the concept of “Simply sentimental identity” while adding value and local identity to Ceylon tea. Each pack contains a dozen of sealed tea bags.

Gifting flowers is a practice that expresses love, care and affection. Being gifted with a bouquet of flowers spreads a pleasant and loved feeling, and also makes the receiver feel more care towards the giver. If just a bunch of flowers- especially roses- can spread a feeling of love so powerful, what could a value-added bunch do? This packaging for roses adds a special value to the bunch of roses within, by its elegant and delicate craft nature. The knitted, handmade yarn adds a contrasting effect by its golden hue, expressing a royal and special feeling by its charm.

We compare the packaging as SUMPUN boat as the basket carrying 'Fruit Soap by using basket’s graphic to reflect the beauty of traditional way of life and to create new experience and memorable identity of product.

The package has inspiration from the set of altar table. Inside the package included candleholder, joss stick pot and flower vase in order to look like the set of altar table. The graphic design has set to look like be in the praying room. The product was locked by B flute corrugated board which is folded to make a shelf in order to easy to use and recycle.

Package can change the shape for sell both of shell and scent candle.

Package of these products has been design like a drawyer because it is easy to put the product more than a bag. Also the box has been made to have a see-through area in the front to show the details of product too.

Thai Chaolay pants are recognized unique souvenir from Thailand. They make great traveler’s pants and are also comfortable pants for work outs. Chinese people believe that Arowana fish is representative of unlimited wealth. The design of the pant package mimics the Arowana characters in order to reflect wealth and good luck.

Bisüt is a disposable cookie and milk packaging. This type of biscuit which is known as “baby biscuits” is also preferred by young consumers and adults, but it is not positioned in a way to attract the target group’s attention with appropriate packaging.

“Cakcak” is an energy chewing gum. In this project, a packaging has been designed suitable for the energy chewing gum concept. The target group is consumers between ages of 18 and 30 who are interested in energy giving products.

Egeli”- Aegean organic hand soap packaging is an organic soap which comprises of vitamin containing herbs and the mineral richness of the sea salt. The greatest feature that sets it apart from its competitors is that it emphasizes its Aegean-ness not through olive oil but through its special herbs and the mineral richness of the sea.

The logo of the multi-purpose crayon box named packaging has been designed like a smiling face to emphasize sincerity. From the outside, it looks like a crayon, which aims to help buyers connect with its contents directly.

EasyT is an innovative and low-cost packaging which has been designed to solve the problem of adjusting portions which is encountered in traditional spaghetti packaging. The target group is the students and those who live alone.

4 Pieces of Pasta named pasta packaging offers 4 different types of a product in one packaging. It is packaged in small quantities suitable for one person, which avoids waste and enhances added value. Its target group is the students, consumers who live alone and who regularly consume pasta.

HOLD ON has been designed to improve the poor image associated with the tea-bag industry. It offers an innovative tea-bag packaging which aims to offer the user a pleasing experience with a twist. Its target group is tea-lovers who do not have the time to brew tea and who want to use tea-bag in a practical way.

Phospore (Phosphor) lens packaging has a cylindrical shape. The diaphragm on the cover has the ability to show the product inside without opening the box. Based on the night performance of the phosphor lens, phosphoric color has been used, and the inner section has also been coated with a phosphoric color.

Frukit packaging consists of 3 different boxes, which are transformed into a single packaging with a unifying tape.Each box is 6.5 to 7 cm, portable and practical. The lid is opened with a 60 degree tilt, which allows the user to take the product easily.

This project aims to form a warm connection with the consumer starting with the brewing of the tea until its presentation to the consumer by using local characters. The air-tight locking system in the opening of the cardboard packaging keeps the product fresh and offer hygiene.

Fruit Bowl, which has been designed for businesses based on the sale of fruit juice like supermarkets and greengrocer’s, aims to achieve maximum functionality by using minimum materials and natural resources. It also aims to offer a practical and aesthetic usage to its users.

EASYGOBBQ is designed in a way that you can simply pick it up and ready for bbq at any moment! 4 in 1 packaging concepts which consist of 2 MEAT, 1 VEG, and 1 sauce compartment. Such essential items provide for a simple outdoor dining for 2-3 persons.

This innovative Smarties Rocket is designed to create impact on the overcrowded super-market shelves. By combining sweets and a toy, the packaging captures the attention of children. After enjoying the contents, children can easily convert the packaging into an exciting flying toy.

Simply Barbecue is a modest carton pack containing three boxes of barbecue food, four cold beverage cartons and cutlery for four. The carton contains everything a user needs, except the actual barbecue, thereby reducing the time and effort required to host a party. Hence the name, Simply Barbecue.

The Graze & Griddle Co. pack provides an innovative & interactive table top solution to hold both food and drink refreshments. The design amplifies the social sharing aspects that come with a BBQ experience, helping to capture & share unique moments with friends.

"Rice road" is a packaging solution, made by 100% recyclable cardboard, that provides an innovative, clever way to reduce food waste by eliminating the need to guess the right rice portion.The combination of functionality and elegant appearance is what makes "Rice Road" a unique rice package.

Listerine GO is a new innovative concept of both a redesigned Listerine pack and an alternative solution to mouthwash as we know it. The idea to concentrated mouthwash into soluble tablets enables easier portability and a new forward thinking product as a zero-alcohol alternative.

The curves on the side of the packaging make the deign more eye catching and also appeals more for a younger age group. . The cut outs allow the dome packaging to fit into carton board packaging. . The secondary packaging holds three chocolate pods.

My packaging solution aims to take a classic confectionary product and reinvent it for the modern consumer. The design would be reusable to discourage "throw away culture."In order to dispense the mints the user would have to twist the top in the same way as a pepper mill.
