“This morning a housewife was found dead in her house. I had thought that I would have to shuffle around to spot the murderer so as to maintain justice…”

What’s wrong with your eyes?

Nothing.

Then why do you need glasses?

You mean this? It’s not simply a pair of glasses. Let me show you.

What the hell is it ?

It’s a latest invention, like a scanner. You can know everything about an object when you look at it with the glasses. Just like now, I look at you with it. And I know the material, the expense of your coat and where it was tailed and who else bought it and…

“The husband paused after this telling and sank into silence. I waited. Then he continued, presenting to me the conversation of a few days later between him and his wife.”

Page 10: WORLDFALL TECHNOLOGY &HUMAN SOCIETY A DIARY OF MR.HOPE BY GRACE HELEN DOBBY.

Darling, could you just please put off the glasses for a while?

Don’t be so cruel. I just want to be a competent wife, finding out what my dearest husband has done today.

Oh, really?

Let me see. You ate at D restaurant today. And your manager patted on your shoulder. Am I right?

Yeah, yeah, you are right. It’s not funny. Now could you please put it off? We watch TV together just like before.

Wait! You went to M’s flower shop and bought a bunch of red roses. Do you have anything to say?

Say what ?

Why did you buy roses ?

Nonsense. Can’t I buy them as I like? I just want to decorate my office.

Oh, I see. But the glasses show the roses are not in your office but in your secretary’s.

What?

And darling, there is a hair on your clothes. The glasses tell me it belongs to your beautiful secretary. And the glasses also tell me her hands were once on you. And···

Enough, what are you doing? It’s just stupid, both you and the glasses.

Don’t you want to explain?

Explain what, there is nothing. The glasses are telling lies.

But just now you said it was right. Men tell lies. The glasses, a technology, tell no lies. Is there anything between you and your secretary that I don’t know?

I told you nothing.

But the glasses tell me there is.

Glasses, glasses. Well. I will leave you with your glasses. Enjoy, you both.

“After his confession, it was me who soaked into silence. I didn’t know what to do. I used to be a man of absolute justice, never letting a criminal go off the hook. But this time, with a third party- the technology, I hesitated. ”

“The missing Mr. White came back.

After more than 1 year of Mr. White’s missing, I was eager to know what happened to him.

The life style of minding your own business almost drove me crazy.

I made up my mind to visit him.”

JULY, 1st

Page 15: WORLDFALL TECHNOLOGY &HUMAN SOCIETY A DIARY OF MR.HOPE BY GRACE HELEN DOBBY.

“But when I knocked at their door and asked whether I could talk to Mr. White. His wife,

Mrs. White seemed confused. She told me that Mr. White didn’t come back and she missed

him so much.

Nothing unusual occurred.”

“Tonight was an

amazing night. first, I

heard Mrs. White

screaming and

something smashed.

then, as I looked out of

the window, I saw Mr.

White. and then I was

told an incredible story

when I visited Mrs.

White.” ANDY.WHITE

Page 18: WORLDFALL TECHNOLOGY &HUMAN SOCIETY A DIARY OF MR.HOPE BY GRACE HELEN DOBBY.

“Yes?”“I saw Mr. White just now and I heard you ‘re shouting. I just wonder whether you need my help or not.”

Mrs. White

“Give me a minute.”

“The truth is Mr. White didn’t come back. In the past few months, however, I have lived with Mr. White, or I’m not sure whether it is Mr. White or not.”

Page 19: WORLDFALL TECHNOLOGY &HUMAN SOCIETY A DIARY OF MR.HOPE BY GRACE HELEN DOBBY.

“I knew he won’t come back.

Then someone told me there are a type of service that could bring the dead back to life. They are capable of collecting all the information of a person about the words he said, the things he did and any trace he left on the Internet or in the computer, even consist of his speech. Somehow, they could simulate his voice and you could talk to him on the phone. ”

Page 20: WORLDFALL TECHNOLOGY &HUMAN SOCIETY A DIARY OF MR.HOPE BY GRACE HELEN DOBBY.

“Then I realized it was not enough. I wanted to see Andy in real. What surprised me is that only if I have money and upgrade my grade, I could get a real Andy. Then Andy was sent to my house. It was not a robot or a cold machine. It has the same face, same voice, and same skin with Andy, I mean. It was exactly identical with Andy. It had all memory we had together even our quarrel.”

Page 21: WORLDFALL TECHNOLOGY &HUMAN SOCIETY A DIARY OF MR.HOPE BY GRACE HELEN DOBBY.

“In the first few months, I lived like Andy had never left me, and I chose to overlook some irrational factors.

But…”

“It doesn’t need to eat.”

“It doesn’t need to breath.”

“It didn’t argue with me when I was wrong.”

“Its program forbid it to argue with its master.”

Page 23: WORLDFALL TECHNOLOGY &HUMAN SOCIETY A DIARY OF MR.HOPE BY GRACE HELEN DOBBY.

“There was silence for me to digest the story. A few minutes later, she broke the silence and went straight to her bed room. “I must finish this.” Murmured by her.

It was too late when I realized something was wrong. I rushed to her room only to find Mr. White who had his second death dead with no blood.”

“There should be a proper distance between human beings, no matter how intimate they are. This is a law of social development. But the overuse of technology breaks the law. As a result, people, habitually living under this law, are unable to be adapted. In the end, families fall. Sickness and death is an unbreakable law of nature. We should calmly accept it. We shouldn’t dream of bringing death to life by applying technology. Otherwise the hope and order will fall.  As the technology moves forward, the social framework will be destroyed and the true emotional connection between people will be twisted. Technology is sainted, while human is instrumentalized. Technology becomes our priority, which is extermination for us. The development of technology is out of control. It occupies human’s position as a subject, alienates human nature.

Page 27: WORLDFALL TECHNOLOGY &HUMAN SOCIETY A DIARY OF MR.HOPE BY GRACE HELEN DOBBY.

Consequently, technology tortures morality. Material conquers spirit. Technology dominates human. But technology can not be reversed. I thus have no choice but to live on.”

I have actually long been dominated by
