Hitler's Beginning

Lebensraum means living spaceAnschluss was the occupation and annexation of Austria into Nazi Germany in 1938. WW2 officially started in 1939 when Germany invaded Poland.


Hitler-Stalin Pact

On this day in 1939, Germany and the Soviet Union signed a non-aggression pact, stunning the world, given their diametrically opposed ideologies. But the dictators were, despite appearances, both playing to their own political needs.

It was a treacherous agreement that involved the occupation and need of Poland, half to Stalinist Russia and half to Hitler’s Germany. Such a move was described bt the Stalinists as “defensive”. The pact did not prevent war between Germany and Russia, but certainly helped Hitler in his war aims.

At the meeting Hitler repeated his Godesberg demands. Mussolini said that he had written down a practical solution to the problem. In fact, the practical solution to the problem. BLITZKRIEG

Blitzkrieg means “lightning war”. It was first used by the Germans in WW2 and was a tactic based on speed and surprise and needed a military force to be based around light tank units supported by planes and infantry (foot soldiers). The tactic was developed in Germany by an army officer called Hans Guderian.

The Luftwaffe was the aerial warfare branch of the German Wehrmacht during World War 2. After the German Empire’s orld War I-era army air force, they had been disbanded under the terms of the Treaty of Versailles.
