• The essential requirements of the Packaging and Packaging Waste directive (PPWD) sets design requirements on packaging, incl. material optimization and minimization of harmful substances
• Carton packaging can easily be material recycled, or energy recovered according to the CEN standards under the PPWD directive. Some grades are also compostable according to the same standards
• Efficiency of recycling depends on the infrastructure of national collection schemes and recovery systems
• Recycled fibre is a good raw material for new fibre based products, not waste• Stora Enso actively promotes and participates in recycling efforts and support the usage of
recovered paper• Stora Enso Barcelona operates a revolutionary UBC recycling facility, where fibre and aluminium is
material recycled and polymers are incinerated to generate heat to the mill

• Packaging is essential to enable transportation of products from producer to consumer
• A rightly designed packaging protects the product within, and thereby saves the far more valuable product from being damaged and thus wasted
