Living Lab methodology for measuring and changing energy
usage behaviour
Anna Ståhlbröst and Marita Holst, CDT
Cross-Border Activities
Overall purpose of our CBA
• Cross-border activity (7): User behaviour changes methodology Living Lab-Living Lab
• To establish an Apollon methodology for user-behavioural changes measurement / inventory of the best practices and lessons learned the first results of the behaviour change possibilities with respect to energy savings across different countries.
The experiment in short • This experiment will exchange best-practice from
local pilots on user-behavioural changes mechanisms and measurements. Partners will document and share their experiences in measuring behavioural changes among end-users when experimenting with new ICT solutions from energy saving.
A short summary of the suggested process
1. Each Living Lab has a Local pilot experiment which will be used as expert knowledge exchange case where different approaches and methods are tested and evaluated. 1. A template for presenting the “best case” has been
provided to all Living Labs2. 3-4 workshops will be arranged in which the best
cases are presented. Experiences and results are presented and discussed. 1. In each workshop the goal is to identify the best methods.
And to create a harmonized model/method for studying and stimulating behavoural changes.
The cross-border dimension:
• knowledge sharing• unified methodology by exchanging local
experiences
• Remember to focus on methods for creation of behavioural change or for studying behavioural changes.
This Workshop
• Each presenter has 15 minutes for presentation of their best cases
• Best Cases from: • Veli-Pekka Niitamo, Aalto Living Lab• Daan Velthausz, Amsterdam Living Lab• Miguel Aguas, Lisbon Living lab• Anna Ståhlbröst, Botnia Living Lab
• Joint Discussions on Methods. Each presenter brings two questions to discuss, e. g. a methodological issue you need support and help with.
• The joint discussion should be closed with each living lab having decided to use a specific method to study or stimulate behavioural changes in energy consumption. The experiences from this will be presented and evaluated in the next workshop
