DURATION2 days – 1 day if attendee holds pre-requisite of 23229 or equivalent.

COURSE BRIEF

Theory and practical training teaching and assessing people in the use of proprietary fall arrest systems. It covers how to install, use and dismantle proprietary fall arrest systems including horizontal and vertical life lines. Trainees will learn about characteristics of equipment and anchorage points, hazards associated with fall arrest systems, maintaining equipment, knots and rescue techniques.

Height Safety Refresher Training

UNIT STANDARD Respective unit standards currently held by attendee to be refreshed.

AVAILABILITY Public and on-site.

CANDIDATES

Business owners, managers, planners, supervisors, site managers, and other staff who have attended unit standard training previously, and wish to refresh their knowledge and skills. It is recommended that refresher training is completed every 2 years.

DURATION

1 day – There may be some instances where further time is required depending on the unit standards being refreshed.

COURSE BRIEF

The intent here is to refresh the unit standards held by the attendee. Generally these may include 17600, 25045, 23229 and 15757.

COURSE NUMBERS Maximum 10.

ASSESSMENTS Written and practical assessments.

COURSE REFERENCE HT5.

Certificate in Height Safety and Rescue

UNIT STANDARD

15757 plus Certificate in Height Safety and Rescue. Approval has been granted by NZQA to conduct this module as a training scheme. Level 3. Credits 4.

AVAILABILITY Public and on-site.

CANDIDATES

All stakeholders and personnel who are required to work at height with the responsibility of developing rescue plans and carrying out rescues.

DURATION

3 days – Depending on prior learning and unit standards held. May be reduced to 1 day which will cover the rescue element if the attendee already holds a current certificate for 15757.

COURSE BRIEF

This course will be designed specifically for the site. It will take into account the type of work being carried out with content structured accordingly.

People in the workplace responsible for and/or participating in the erection and dismantling of scaffold up to five metres in height.

DURATION

1 to 2 days – Depending on the unit standards required. Options include: 1 day inspection course (23230) or 2 day erection and dismantle course (9184, 13053 and 13016).

COURSE BRIEF

These courses are designed to teach and assess students on various stages of care and maintenance, inspection, erection and dismantling of scaffold up to five metres in height which does not require a Certificate of Competence or notification to Worksafe NZ. Those accessing these unit standards are likely to be from construction and related trade industries who erect scaffold for their own immediate use and the use of those working with them.

PRE-REQUISITEUnit standard 13016 is a prerequisite for unit standard 13053.

COURSE BRIEF

This course is designed to enable students to identify the legislative and organisational health and safety requirements for engaging contractors to perform work on site; explain how to manage the use of contractors on site to ensure compliance with legislative and organisational health and safety requirements and to explain contractor health and safety performance review requirements.

COURSE BRIEF

Plan for an on-site health and safety compliance audit on a construction site. The course is based upon requirements of the ACC’s Workplace Safety Management Practices audit tool and covers a variety of requirements, evaluations, planning and management. Upon completion, each student will undertake a Health and Safety Audit on their own workplace and present a 1.5 hour presentation of their findings. This will take place eight (8) weeks after they finish the course.
