WORKS NOTIFICATION
CHANGES TO THE ROAD NETWORK - KINGS WAYFEBRUARY - MARCH 2018
As the major arterial route in the precinct, Kings Way has been identified as the primary diversion route during construction of the new Anzac Station. To ensure Kings Way can cater for the predicted increase in traffic it is essential that changes are made to the road to improve the efficiency of the network.
Further to the works notification issued in December 2017, additional works on Kings Way are required. John Holland is continuing to deliver these works.

What we are doingRoad resurfacing and line marking worksRoad resurfacing and line marking works will be undertaken at a number of locations on Kings Way between Albert Road and the West Gate Freeway on-ramp. These works will prepare Kings Way to function as the primary diversion route during construction of the new Anzac Station.
These works include:
• Using a profiling machine to remove the top coat of asphalt and dispose of the material using trucks
• Using an asphalt paving machine to apply a new top coat.
The asphalt will be compacted using several rollers, including a steel drum roller and a multi tyred roller.
Changes to the intersection of Sturt Street and Kings WayWorks to ban a number of turning motions onto and off Kings Way and Sturt Street surrounding this intersection will include:
• Installing yellow raised separation kerb along the tram tracks
• Constructing new kerb outstands and traffic islands.
Installation of overhead traffic signageOverhead traffic signage will be installed during night works in the city bound lanes northwest of Cobden Street and on the south side of the Pedestrian bridge at Mac.Robertson Girls School in early March.
This work willl include:
• Installing bored piers for overhead gantry signage
• Erecting the overhead gantry frame using a mobile crane
• Installing overhead gantry signs using a elevated work platform.
What to be aware of • Road profiling and asphalting works are expected
to generate medium to high levels of noise
• While asphalting works will follow road profiling, there will be 1-2 day periods in which the surface will be rough in between these activities.
Drivers should use caution during this period
• These works need to be carried out at night to minimise impacts on the road network.
Traffic management measures• Variable message boards will be used to provide
advance notice of these works and promote alternate routes
• Road users can expect delays associated with the lane closures required to safely perform the works
• Diversions will be in place around city bound lanes during works including asphalting and overhead gantry installation works. Follow the detour signage in place.
