goals for the remainder of the year.
We encourage you to obtain further
information on the Australian Curriculum by
access ing the ACARA webs i te
www.acara.edu.au, speaking with your child’s
teacher and attending future school
information sessions held for families.
Gulfview Heights Primary School “Working Together to reach New Heights”
Australian Curriculum
Teachers at Gulfview Heights Primary
School are fully implementing the new
Australian Curriculum in 2016 - Science,
Mathematics, English, Technologies, The
Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences,
Health and Physical Education and
Languages. Teachers will be planning,
teaching, assessing and reporting to families
using the Australian Curriculum Achievement
Standards for each year level in all areas of
study.
All staff continue to engage throughout the
year in relevant professional learning
activities that will support them in
implementing the new Australian Curriculum
consistently.
So what does this mean for Reporting to
Families at Gulfview Heights Primary
School in 2016?
As teachers at Gulfview Heights Primary are
planning, teaching and assessing using the
Australian Curriculum, our Mid Year Reports
will report against the Australian Curriculum
Achievement Standards in all areas. Both
the mid and end of year reports will provide
you with an A-E grade, indicating your child’s
level of achievement in relation to their year
level standard, an effort rating and a general
comment, particularly in the areas of English
and Mathematics. Your child’s mid year
report should also identify their learning
“Celebrating 40 years in 2016”
School Fees
Families are reminded that school fees
are now overdue.
If you have not paid or contacted the front
office to organise a payment plan please do
so as soon as possible.
If you are experiencing difficulty with fee
payments please contact us or speak to your
child’s class teacher. We are happy to
negotiate instalment plans to help ease any
potential financial burden on families.
Strings Workshop
Well done to the following students who
represented us at the recent Instrumental
Music Strings Workshop: Brooke Duncan,
Abbey Koler, Emily Hodgetts, Victor Devia-
Foronda, Kaysha Price, Ewan Fraser and
Grace Galliford.
You are all to be
commended on your
h a r d w o r k a n d
dedication to your music
studies.
Parent Complaint Policy/Grievance Procedure
In March 2012 DECD released a New Parent Complaint
Policy outlining procedures for managing concerns and
complaints made by Parents/Carers.
As a result our school has reviewed and updated our
Grievance Procedures to incorporate the new Parent
Complaint Policy procedures for responding to issues of
concern.
A copy of this policy is available on our school website
www.ghps.sa.edu.au by following the links:
General Information > Policies/Documents > Parent
Complaint Policy.
It is important to remember that we endeavour to resolve all
issues of concern at the school level. In the first instance, we
ask you to speak to your child’s teacher or the principal if you
would like further information or follow up regarding any
concerns. Alternatively, write a note via your child’s
communication book or a letter marked confidential and
addressed to the Principal.
Thanking you for your willingness to work co-operatively in the
best interest of our students, staff and families.
Attendance Improvement
We would like to take this opportunity to remind you that
when children are away for whatever reason, you must
contact the school to inform us of their absence. Please write
a note and give it to the classroom teacher upon your child’s
return to school. Alternatively use the absentee note
under Parent eForms on the school ap. or inform the
class teacher or front office staff in person. The school
requires a reason for each absence in order to update our
records.
Did you realise…
Late arrival at school through the primary years is
often related to non-attendance during secondary
school.
Missing 1 day a week of school from Reception to
year 10 means missing 2 years and 1 term of
schooling.
Being half an hour late to school each day from
Reception to Year 10 equals missing 1 year and one
and a half terms of schooling.
Being absent 5 days a term from Reception to Year 10
adds up to more than one year of missed schooling. SAPSASA
Congratulations to both our boys and girls SAPSASA soccer
teams who won their knock-out games at Para Hills West
Soccer grounds on Thursday.
A huge thank you is extended to all the parents who
volunteered their time to transport. We would also like to thank
Alan Buck who volunteered to coach our teams and Kerrie
McInerney for all her help and coaching leading up to and on
the day of the event. Without the generosity of these
volunteers our students would be unable to participate in such
a wide range of SAPSASA events.
Book Fair
A big thank you also to our Fundraising volunteers who helped
make our Scholastic Monster Book Fair so successful this
year: Rhonda Gardner, Debbie Hodgetts, Sam Dunstan,
Jeanie Galliford, Kylie Chegwidden and Tamara Howard. The
book fair is one of our major fundraisers
and an event that the students look
forward to. It is always a pleasure to see
students discussing and sharing books that
they have purchased with their friends with
such excitement and enthusiasm.
KOREAN HOMESTAY PROGRAM
Discover a family activity that is deeply satisfying and emotionally rewarding by taking a student
under your wing, caring for them, making them feel welcome and giving them a taste of Aussie life.
We need families to host South Korean students in Term 3.
If you are interested please contact Julie Hayward (in person or by email at
[email protected]) to get more information or to express your interest in
becoming a host family.
LEARN TO SPEAK
Korean is the official
language of Korea and is
spoken by more than 80
million people
worldwide!
People who speak two
languages fluently are
called bilingual.
Some of the benefits of
children being bilingual
are:
It’s good for brain
development.
It gives them a
cultural awareness.
It improves their
overall
communication skills.
It will completely
transform their travel
experiences!
