• Collaboration is a joint effort of multiple individuals or work groups to accomplish a task or project.

• It enables individuals to work together to achieve a defined and common business purpose. It exists in two forms:

• Synchronous, where everyone interacts in real time, as in online meetings, through instant messaging, or via Skype, and

• Asynchronous, where the interaction can be time-shifted, as when uploading documents or annotations to shared workspaces.

Collaboration is a joint effort of multiple individuals or work groups to accomplish a task or project.Collaboration relies on the opening and sharing of knowledge but also some level of focus and accountability on the part of the business organizations. Governance should be established addressing the creation and closing of team workspaces with assignment of responsibility for capturing the emergent results of the collaborative effort.

•Collaboration maximizes strength and minimizes weakness•In team sports, team members work together in order to win. Individual weaknesses can be minimized through the efforts of the team. In football, for example, a weaker lineman receives help from a team mate to help block a competing player and the pass is completed successfully. •It makes work fun• Work is more fun when you are a part of a team. You can build on other people's ideas and share in completing the assignment together. You also have another pair of eyes to look at the work, which further reduces errors and mistakes

Points to Keep in mind while working in a Group

• Responsibility :- First, you are not just responsible for your performance, but also for your team’s performance.

• Pace :- When you are getting trained in a group, you should also prepare yourself to pace accordingly.

• Respect :-No matter how good or bad you are, you should respect everyone present

• Be involved- Always be involved in the group. Mix with people, learn about their strengths and how you too can work towards it.

• Individual work can provide a sense of clarity and speed, it can occasionally slow things down as well. For instance, if there is only one person working on a project, there could be serious delays if something unexpected happens to this person.

• If they get sick or have to stop working on that project for any reason, there is no backup. With a group, the other members can pick up any slack if something unplanned occurs.

• On the same note, if all the group members are not able to manage their time, some members could end up with a lot more work than others.
