Introduction

is a concept conceived in the military where.Workforce planningmaintaining a strong, trained and stable army despite changes and movements

of people in and out was key

However, do organizations across Asia have what it

takes to be tactical when I comes to Workforce planning?

In late 2014 , we set out to interview business leaders and

professionals from across Asia to satisfy our curiosity.

How we did it

We surveyed over 712 respondents all across Asia.

About the sampleA total of 712 respondents completed the survey, with job roles ranging from HR Consultants and

Administrative professionals to C-suite level executives and CHROs, predominantly from APAC.

Major Findings

ConclusionConclusionVarious official bodies and media have put forward their forecasts on how the Asian economy will fare in the coming year

and it seems like growth in Asia generally remains positive. With the full establishment of the ASEAN Economic Community

(AEC) in 2015, the AEC will support an increase in regional globalization and integration of different nationalities.

Workforce Planning therefore becomes more critical than ever. In a bid to stay competitive, organizations will no longer be

sourcing from local talent pools, but also widening the net beyond national boundaries in search for the labor they need.

Surprisingly, as the report reveals, organizations in Asia are only at the Beginners level of the Workforce Planning game. 65%

of people said they are able to predict where talent gaps will be in 6 months but they cannot be further from the truth;

• Organizations use more than 3 sources of data to inform workforce planning but they cannot even access or aggregate

these data easily

• Organizations are too heavily dependent on spreadsheets and 70.4% said that data inaccuracies remains a barrier

• Organizations rank low on the workforce planning maturity level

Data remains elusive for businesses in Asia and there is a pertinent need for organizations to overcome the common pain-

points to stay competitive globally. Perhaps it’s time for businesses in Asia to look at a next generation approach to

workforce planning?
