dallas arts grand hotelARCH 406 - studio Duration - 6 weeksGroup project - 3 peopleLocation - Dallas, TX

This project was an in-studio design competition that was affiliated with the Dallas office architecture firm, HKS. The program for the project was a mixed-use hotel and residential building located in the famous arts district of Dallas, Texas. The design of the project was largely based on a connection between the arts district and the elevated park above Woodall Rogers Fwy, which was under construction. This pedestrian street would be the new trendy hot spot in the arts district as it would be filled with activities such as shopping, eating, picnicking, ice skating, and playing in the open spaces both green and hardscaped. These different types of commercial, retail, and food companies would flow out into the space activating it with life. The hotel / residential tower is cladded in spandrel glass with a undulating metal mesh shading canopy which shades both the tower and the urban ground floor. All team members were involved in the design process of the project but I created the computer revit model along with the renderings.

óðinstorg plazaUP 696 - iceland study abroad Duration - 2.5 weeksGroup project - 2 people (plaza), 7 people (master plan) Location - Reykjavik, Iceland

This was an urban design and planning redevelopment project located in Reykjavik, Iceland. Currently, the city lacks open space in the downtown area accessible to the public which this project tries to remediate. The location of this project is well positioned in the center of downtown on an existing parking lot allowing it to be accessed from every direction. As a group of seven people we analyzed the site and proposed a larger redeveloped master plan which consisted of two open plazas, housing/restaurant complex, play/recreation area, and a streetscape renovation. The master plan was divided into smaller group projects in which the óðinstorg plaza was chosen to be designed by my partner and I. For our design we wanted to create a large open space for multiple types of use by different types of people. Since the downtown lacks open green space we made it the main driving force in our design with different types of design features activating the space. This new plaza and redevelopment project would be a place for users of all ages to come together and enjoy.

downtown urban housingARCH 672 - studio Duration - 8 weeksGroup project - 2 peopleLocation - Ann Arbor, MI

This project was issued as a mixed-use, live/work proposal for a downtown Ann Arbor site located near the main AATA hub and Ann Arbor Public Library, between North Division and South Fifth Avenue. Currently the site is an underground and surface parking garage with an exiting structural foundation which the project built upon. Program-matically, the program calls for various commercial/social spaces on the first and second levels, including a restaurant, cafe, coffee shop, work-out facility, music/art school, and small entertainment venue. Continuing vertically through the building, areas such as seasonal roof gardens, decks, live/work units and rentable banquet/recreation space become increasingly privatized for tower residents. A primary intention of the building mass intends to accentuate a line of procession from Liberty Plaza located at the northeast corner of the city block, through an elevated street/greenway, to the newly contained plaza at the site's southwest corner. This move promotes community gathering at both east and west sides, on the sloping lawn and plaza respectively, as well as continued exploration through the additional exterior/interior public and semi-public realms. These spaces are activated by surrounding commercial and residential program flowing or overlooking onto them.
