Skill Profile• Mapping
The children begin their mapping skills from an early stage. They firstly create pictures including things that they remember or identify. These are egocentric based on things familiar to them.
Nursery: Story Journey
![Page 11: Work profile](https://reader034.fdocuments.us/reader034/viewer/2022051515/54c896c94a795967638b4724/html5/thumbnails/11.jpg)
The children then include some links between the pictures with some idea of direction and orientation. The buildings are in picture form.
Reception Example:
![Page 12: Work profile](https://reader034.fdocuments.us/reader034/viewer/2022051515/54c896c94a795967638b4724/html5/thumbnails/12.jpg)
Year One Example
The maps are now less egocentric and are becoming more abstract. They have more coordination and connection with roads and some buildings in plan form with better perspective.
![Page 13: Work profile](https://reader034.fdocuments.us/reader034/viewer/2022051515/54c896c94a795967638b4724/html5/thumbnails/13.jpg)
Year Two Example: The maps become much more sophisticated. They have a key to explain symbols.
