Objective 4: Realized productivity gains of 20% over unimproved
and 10% over best improved varieties achieved in common bean
production regions of Ethiopia, Tanzania and Uganda where seed
of the released varieties has been extended

I. NARS breeding programs regularly provide well-adapted and
market-preferred improved common bean cultivars to the
farmers as per their requirements
Activities:
Activity 1. Validation of one of screening protocol developed for
bruchids or (Zabrotes subfasciatus)/ BSM (Ophiomyia phaseoli)
Evaluation of common bean genotypes for BSM resistance
Two bean market class (small and large red bean) evaluation trial
Screening for seed dressing chemical and hostplant resistance
Screening of genotypes for their resistance/tolerance to bean bruchids
Bruchid screening protocol developed in Ethiopia by Tigist has been
evaluated and will be implanted across implanting countries.

BSM protocol will be refined by the task force organized by PABRA
and then the protocol will be validated
