WORK IN PROGRESS 6–7–8 April 2019 | LUND, SWEDEN Are you a professional illustrator creating content for children? Are you in need of extra inspiration, new ideas and the opportunity to network? Would you like to challenge yourself? If the answer to these ques- tions is yes, then you should apply to Work in Progress, the international master classes for illustrators arranged by Litteralund Festival in partnership with Lunds konsthall. The master classes will culminate with a public exhibition of the work produced during the workshops. Four internationally renowned illustrators will lead Work in Progress, and each workshop will be designed to inspire you and give you feedback based on your individual work. The workshops will take place in central Lund and will be held in English. WORKSHOP LEADERS LITTERALUND Bernardo P. Carvalho (Portugal) is an il- lustrator and co-founder of Planeta Tange- rina, where he works since 1999. He creates projects that mainly focus on illustration and design, cooperating in the creation of titles directed towards younger readers. Bernardo has been the recipient of several international prizes and awards. Sara Lundberg (Sweden) is a multifaceted artist, illustrator and writer that comfortably shifts between books, paintings and video form. She has written and illustrated her own books but has also worked on other people’s projects. She has won several awards and prizes in her career including the August Prize in 2017 for her book Fågeln i mig flyger vart den vill. Joohee Yoon (USA) is an illustrator and printmaker that contributes regularly to publications such as the New York Times and the New Yorker, in addition to working on books, advertising and various other projects. She has taught at the Rhode Island School of Design, along with giving talks and leading workshops abroad. Maisie Paradise Shearring (UK) is an illustra- tor and storyteller. She has been featured in a picture book exhibition at the National Gallery of Scotland, and in April 2015 Maisie won the International Award for Illustration at Bologna Children’s Book Fair. WORKSHOP LEADERS

SCHEDULE OF ACTIVITIES

Saturday and Sunday 6th and 7th of April 08.30–17.30: workshops in central Lund Monday 8th of April 09.00–15.00: Selection of material and installation of the exhibition together with the team from Lunds konsthall. Tuesday 9th of April 19.00: exhibition opening

Note: All participants are expected to take part in the four workshops and the selection and installation of the material for the exhibition on the Monday. Participants are invited free of charge to take part in Litteralund Festival’s Conference on Tuesday 9th and Wednesday 10th of April.

APPLICATION PROCESS

Your application should include:

• Your CV

• A motivation letter telling us why you should be offered a place in the master classes (max one A4)

• An electronic portfolio/samples of your work (link to webpage, images, films etc.)

All material should be sent digitally as one document in PDF format to [email protected] not later than Sunday 17th of February 2019. A panel with members from Litteralund, Lunds konsthall and child-rens’ literature experts will select 12 participants to join the master classes. We will inform all applicants about the outcome during the first week of March. A number of places in the course are reserved for students/emerging talents.

COURSE FEES

The masterclasses are free but a fee of 700 SEK will be charged in order to cover the costs of materials and meals. Participants will cover the travel and accommodation costs themselves.
