Why UpdateYour IRA Beneficiary?

Although not required by law, it is highly recommended that you name one or more beneficiaries on your

IRA, so you can control who will receive your IRA funds. Should you not list a beneficiary, in most cases, by default, the estate is the beneficiary and would be subject to a higher tax rate. Unlike a will, an IRA is controlled by a beneficiary designation.

The IRS requires that the financial institution have the name, Social Security number, date of birth and address of all Primary and/or Contingent Beneficiary(ies).

You can request a Beneficiary Designation Form at any RTN branch.◆

“The whole process of working with you and RTN Credit Union has been fantastic …You have created the ideal buying experience. We truly believe that we would not be in the house we are in today without your efforts.”

Build Financial Strength With the RTN Financial & Retirement Group

The RTN Financial & Retirement Group is dedicated to helping RTN members build financial strength and security. They can help if you are

just starting to save or seeking more advanced money management advice. Advisors Michael Beck, CFP® and Douglas Stocklan, along with coordinator Rachelle Rodman, make up the team.

Prior to becoming a financial advisor, Michael Beck practiced law, specializing in estate planning, wills, trusts and Medicaid planning. He switched careers when he realized he wanted to help people prepare for their financial future through planning. “I believe it’s

important to be as prepared as possible so financial goals can be met,” he says. “I’m happy to meet with members to review their financial situation, provide a second opinion or help them adjust as they go through lifestyle changes.” As a Certified Financial Planner, Beck has passed rigorous exams in financial and retirement planning, taxes and insurance, and maintains his certification by completing programs each year. He’s received several awards, including the CUNA Mutual MEMBERS Excellence Award every year since 2004.

Along with his expertise in retirement-income planning, Douglas Stocklan has a special focus working with families of children with special needs. “There are many issues facing families who have children with special needs, one of which is financial planning,” he says. “The financial considerations are different for them.

I work closely with these families to create a plan with the goal of providing for their child’s well-being and future needs.” Awards Stocklan has received include the Transamerica Top of the Pyramid Award, given to top-performing advisors.

Members wishing to set up a no-cost, no-obligation meeting with an advisor at an RTN branch or other convenient location can contact Rachelle Rodman at 781-736-9978 or [email protected].◆

Making a Difference: RTN GoodWorks Foundation RTN GoodWorks Foundation is

a 501(c)(3) non-profit, public charitable foundation that fosters financial wellness, and promotes financial literacy and community involvement.

Founded in 2011, the Foundation is a natural outgrowth of the Credit Union’s commitment to community activities and financial literacy as a key component of financial health.

The Foundation has been involved in sponsoring two financial seminars this fall – “Money Smart,” which was held on September 19 at RTN’s Waltham branch, and “Basics of Money Management for Teens,” which was held on October 3 at Massachusetts Affordable Housing Alliance (MAHA) office in Dorchester.

Earlier this year, the Foundation was a Gold Sponsor of RTN’s Walk Home 2015 5K Walk for the Homeless. The Foundation’s activities are focused in communities where RTN Credit Union branches are located.◆

It’s a Win/Win for RTN GoodWorks Foundation and You

This fall, RTN GoodWorks Foundation will be raising funds with

a 50/50 raffle, running from October 15 through November 21.

The proceeds will be split into two halves -- half to help benefit the Foundation and half to be enjoyed by a lucky winner. Tickets may be purchased in RTN branches, one ticket for $5 or five tickets for $20.

“This raffle is a fun way to get members involved in raising funds for the Foundation,” says Peter Cole, Chairman of the Board of RTN GoodWorks Foundation and Quality Review Specialist, Quality & Patient Safety at Lawrence General Hospital. He also serves on the RTN Board of Directors. “We’re excited to undertake more projects to support our surrounding communities. We look forward to increasing access to financial education and promoting life-long financial well-being.”◆

“The Best Part of Being a Member is the Service”

Our Members Tell Their Stories

From the Credit Union’s beginnings 70 years ago in a small Raytheon office, RTN

continues to be a primary financial resource for Raytheon employees, many of whom enjoy the convenience of RTN branches located at their workplace.

Raytheon employee Ed Vigeant can attest to how easy banking at RTN can be. He visits the RTN branch in Raytheon at Apple Hill in Tewksbury whenever he needs to make a transaction. “It’s so convenient. I can get cash

at the ATM and for anything else, I can go to the branch right at work.”

Ed’s been an RTN member for more than 20 years. He joined after asking around and discovering how simple it was to become a member. Over the years he has had several loans and savings accounts with RTN. “I always look around for rates, and RTN still has the best rates on car loans I’ve seen.”

What does he believe makes RTN special? “The best part of being a member is the service, especially with Sheila (Marquis, Interviewer at the Apple Hill branch). She’s so friendly and outgoing and always there to help. I once had a problem with my ATM card and Sheila helped me resolve it right away, and then followed up to make sure everything was okay. She is great to work with. I highly recommend RTN to everyone,” he says.◆
