Do not standDo not standDo not stand at my grave and weep;

I am not there. I do not sleep. I am a thousand winds that blow. I am the diamond glints on snow. I am the sunlight on ripened grain.

I am the gentle autumn rain. When you awaken in the morning's hush

I am the swift uplifting rush of quiet birds in circled flight.

I am the soft stars that shine at night. Do not stand at my grave and weep;

I am not there. I do not sleep.- First-century China

God of graceGod of graceGod of grace and God of glory, on thy people pour thy power. Crown thine ancient justice story; bring its bud to glorious flower. Grant us wisdom; grant us courage, for the facing of this hour.

For the facing of this hour.Cure thy children’s warring madness; bend our pride to thy control. Shame our wanton, selfish gladness, rich in things and poor in soul. Grant us wisdom; grant us courage, lest we miss thy righteous goal.

Lest we miss thy righteous goal.Save us from weak resignation to the evils we deplore. Let the search for thy salvation be our glory ever more. Grant us wisdom; grant us courage, serving thee whom we adore.

Serving thee whom we adore.- Harry Emerson Fosdick

“God Most High says ‘I am as my Servant-think I am.

I am with him when he makes mention of Me.

If he makes mention of Me by himself,

I make mention of him to Myself.

If he makes mention of Me in an assembly,

I make mention of him in an assembly better than his.

If he comes closer to Me a hand span,

I come closer to him arms-length,

if he comes to Me walking, I come to him running.’ ”

of humankind lost through horror, through injustice.May we learn and remember everyone in our worldwide family is part of the unseen plan. That those different from ourselves

extend and enrich our lives as we learn from other points of view. That no matter what our race, religion, country, culture we will ever stand as one

humanity, and in the planetary plan we are but one universal family. Let's take the worldwide view. Let's embrace each other wholeheartedly,

going forward with caring thoughts, actions in grace and harmony respecting each other.

Life and deathLife and deathLife and death are one, even as the sea and river are one. Beneath the depth of your hopes and desires

lies your silent knowledge of the beyond, and like seeds dreaming beneath the snow

your heart dreams of spring. Trust the dreams, for in them is hidden the gate to eternity. For what is it to die but to stand naked in the wind and melt into the sun. And what is it to cease breathing but to free the breath from its restless tides,

that it may rise and expand and seek (God) unencumbered. Only when you drink from the river of silence shall you indeed sing. And when you have reached the mountaintop, then you shall begin to climb. And when the earth shall claim your limbs, then shall you truly dance.

Lord, rememberLord, rememberLord, remember not only the men of good will,

but also those of ill will. But do not remember all the suffering

they have inflicted upon us. Remember rather the fruits we have brought, thanks to this suffering:

our comradeship, our loyalty, our humility, the courage, the generosity, the greatness of heart that has grown out of this.

And when they come to judgment, let all the fruits we have borne be their forgiveness.

Lord, we acknowledgeLord, we acknowledgeLord, we acknowledge that You are here, that You never left us

even when all around us seemed to be falling apart. We are overcome by grief as we see the images of tragedy,

as we hear the cries for help, and feel the pain of others’ suffering. Give ear, O Lord to the cries from our hearts

and bring light to darkness, joy to sorrow, healing to pain. We come Lord for rest from the weariness of shock.

seeking Your guiding hand in how we can respond. How can we express Your love, O Lord? How can we be Your hands, O Lord?Give us strength and courage to do what pleases You,

that we can put Your love in action, by word and deed and make Your presence known. Loving Father, Healer, Restorer, and Source of all hope,

remove from us those things that prevent Your love from flowing through us. May we make a difference in someone’s life

that they may come to know Your redeeming love and put their trust in You.- Carlene L. DouglasAfrican Methodist Episcopal Church

Now I sayNow I sayNow I say to you in conclusion, life is hard,

at times as hard as crucible steel. (Mmm)

It has its bleak and difficult moments.

Like the ever-flowing waters of the river,

life has its moments of drought and its moments of flood. (Yeah)

Like the ever-changing cycle of the seasons,

life has the soothing warmth of its summers

and the piercing chill of its winters. (Yeah) But if one will hold on, he will discover that God walks with him, (Yeah. Well) and that God is able (Yeah) to lift you from the fatigue of despair to the buoyancy of hope

and transform dark and desolate valleys

into sunlit paths of inner peace. (Mmm)

O God of truthO God of truthO God of truth and justice,

we hold before you those whose memory we cherish, and those whose names we will never know.

Help us to lift our eyes above the torment of this broken world, and grant us dignity as we pray for those who wish us harm.

As we honor the past, may we put our faith in your future; for you are the source of life and hope, now and for ever.

that nuclear weapons will never again be used to kill and destroy.

Let us remember Hiroshima as a beacon to commit ourselves to find ways to live together in peace, that we may not be just peace lovers, but peacemakers.

God of infinite possibility, transform our hearts and minds and give us courage to use our skills and technology to transform weapons that destroy into all that upholds life.

O Great SpiritO Great SpiritOh, Great Spirit, whose voice I hear in the winds

and whose breath gives life to all the world, hear me.

I am small and weak. I need your strength and wisdom.

Let me walk in beauty and make my eyes

ever behold the red and purple sunset.

Make my hands respect the things you have made

and my ears sharp to hear your voice.

Make me wise so that I may understand

the things you have taught my people.

Let me learn the lessons you have hidden in every leaf and rock.

I seek strength, not to be superior to my brother, but to fight my greatest enemy – myself.

Make me always ready to come to you with clean hands and straight eyes,

so when life fades, as the fading sunset, my spirit will come to you without shame.

Once in a little pondOnce in a little pondOnce, in a little pond, in the muddy water under the lily pads, there lived a little water beetle in a community of water beetles. They lived a simple and comfortable life in the pond with few disturbances and interruptions. Once in a while, sadness would come to the community when one of their fellow beetles would climb the stem of a lily pad and would never be seen again. They knew when this happened their friend was dead, gone forever.

Then, one day, one little water beetle felt an irresistible urge to climb up that stem. However, he was determined that he would not leave forever. He would come back and tell his friends what he had found at the top. When he reached the top and climbed out of the water onto the surface of the lily pad, he was so tired, and the sun felt so warm, that he decided he must take a nap. As he slept, his body changed and when he woke up, he had turned into a beautiful blue-tailed dragonfly with broad wings and a slender body designed for flying. So, fly he did!

And, as he soared he saw the beauty of a whole new world and a far superior way of life to what he had never known existed. Then he remembered his beetle friends and how they were thinking by now he was dead. He wanted to go back to tell them, and explain to them that he was now more alive than he had ever been before. His life had been fulfilled rather than ended. But, his new body would not go down into the water. He could not get back to tell his friends the good news. Then he understood that their time would come, when they, too, would know what he now knew. So, he raised his wings and flew off into his joyous new life!

Please considerPlease considerPlease consider for a moment what you can do to show that you lived a life of value. The possessions and social position you have accumulated during your life will pass away from you. Once you cross the river of death, such things will have no meaning. Because we were born in love and lived our lives in love, love is also the only thing that remains with us when we are in our graves. We receive our lives in love, live by sharing love, and return into the midst of love. It is important that we live in a way that we can leave a legacy of love behind us.

live in freedom, justice and peace. We pray for all who in bereavement, disability and pain

continue to suffer the consequences of fighting and terror. We remember with thanksgiving and sorrow those whose lives,

in world wars and conflicts past and present, have been given and taken away.

- Anglican prayer

When I despairWhen I despairWhen I despair,

I remember that all through history

the ways of truth and love have always won.

There have been tyrants, and murderers,

and for a time they can seem invincible,

but in the end they always fall. - Mahatma Gandhi
