Words Derived from Greek
10th grade Mrs. Leach
A great revival of interest in ancient Greek and Latin civilizations took place in England during the years 1500-1650, a period known as the Renaissance. At that time, numerous ancient Greek and Latin words were incorporated into the language. This continues today. When modern scientists need to name a new idea, process, or object, they tend to construct a word out of Greek or Latin roots.
