In this sense,Commissioner Kadri Simson willbe joining us to touch upon theplans being drawn up concerningenergy related aspects of theEuropean Recovery after thecrisis. Energy will be of strategicimportance in the context of theCovid-19 economic recoverypackage. One of the key areas toaddress is the energy efficiency ofbuildings, which are responsiblefor 40% of energy consumptionand 36% of CO2 emissions in theEU. On 11 May, the Commissionpublished its roadmap for therenovation wave, which aims to atleast double current renovationrates. An increased renovation ofbuildings could create local jobsand support SMEs in the EU, whileat the same time saving energy, money and CO2.
Furthermore, Members will beholding a consideration of the draftopinion on Establishing the JustTransition Fund the vote of whichis expected to take place in July. Finally, we will be adopting ITRE'sopinions on three files on TheEuropean Forest Strategy, An EUlegal framework to halt andreverse EU driven globaldeforestation and the EU's role inprotecting and restoring the world'sforests.
