In 1911, pre-nuptlal bridal parties gave birth to the formation of a club. Tenyoung woman invited a friend each to meet with Ruth Woodward to from theWittenagemot Club. The name was taken from the Anglo-Saxon words "Witan"meaning wise men, and "Agemot" meaning meeting. Women from the Worcester areawere the members. Nine monthly meetings were held yearly, which included either aluncheon or desert, and discussion topics that could range from politics, to bookreviews, crafts, to community service. The club disbanded in 2002.
