“An Environment Where We Can All Grow Together”
11/5/2010
Dear Parents and Guardians,
The staff at Woodview School has been working extremely hard throughout this beginning part of the school year. Every week we are looking to recognize students for exhibiting behavior that goes along with our citizenship themes. Students then have their names read for receiving a “Golden Ticket” over announcements and are invited to come down to the office and win a prize. It is important to us to recognize and reinforce positive behavior in our school. Please congratulate your children for a job well done when receiving a golden ticket from a staff member!
In addition, I would like to invite you to participate in an ongoing activity that we have with
our staff as a form of recognition. Each week we recognize different staff members for “filling each other’s buckets” along with naming one adult the “All Star of the Week” and award a traveling trophy. We do this by filling out little drops that are placed in a staff bucket which are then read “on air” during WBC in the morning by our television crew. I hope that you will take the time to fill a staff member’s bucket this week by filling out a drop or two, and then return it to your child’s teacher or the school office. We appreciate everything that you all do at home with your children and feel this is another positive way to share in what you are happy about concerning our wonderful Woodview staff of professionals. Sincerely, Jeff Knapp

As some of you may know, a Woodview family lost their home to a fire earlier this
week. The Woodview community would like to support this family and help out. If you
would like to send in a monetary donation we will have an envelope in the main office
through November 19th that we will give to the family. We appreciate all of your thoughts
and donations to help this family in a time of need.

Calling All Penguin Patch Helpers:
Are you looking to help a family in need this holiday season? Woodview school
has a Mitten Tree that is adorned with various mittens of boys and girls in
need of a variety of necessary items. Those items include socks, mittens,
boots and coats. If you can find it in your heart to help those in need, please
come in and take a mitten. The tree is located in the Woodview media
center.
The mittens include the child’s age, size, and what is needed on the
back. You can sign out the mitten, purchase the item(s) you choose, wrap,
and send it back to school with the mitten attached as the gift tag. We will
distribute the gifts to the families.
If you would like your child to pick a mitten, or have us send one home in
their backpack, please email or call the school office. Please consider giving
to those less fortunate, and those that may be experiencing a hard time
providing essential items for their children this sea-
son. What a wonderful lesson to teach our
children about helping others!

The Illinois Dept. of Public Health has recently reported a number of cases of
Pertussis in the state of Illinois-it is not a thing of the past!
• What is Pertussis? A highly infectious illness transmitted through coughing and
sneezing
• Symptoms are similar to the common cold but with a severe cough that has a
distinctive whooping sound
• Cough spasms severe enough to cause vomiting
Although most children are immunized by their DTP vaccine, this protection can
lessen as the child gets older.
Actions to take if you suspect your child has these symptoms:
• Please visit your doctor immediately for proper treatment.
• If diagnosed with Pertussis, your student MUST stay home for 5 days after the
start of the antibiotic.
Thank you for your cooperation. If you have any questions you can visit the website

Students and staff at Woodview celebrated the official opening of their outdoor classroom with a dedication ceremony last week. The classroom is a very special gift made possible by a group of hardworking dads who donated so much time, effort, and materials, as well as donations from local businesses. Thank you to all who participated in this incredible project. You will be remembered for years to come each time our students step out into their beautiful, new classroom.
