We know you are excited to see your children at the end of the day but can we please ask that you not enter the buildings before 3pm. It is distracting for the children to have parents in corridors/ open-spaces outside classrooms and adds to congestion as they pack up and collect belongings at the end of the day. It also can pose a Health and Safety threat. Please arrange to meet your child/children in an area outside the building. This allows teachers to get on with the business of teaching and keeps everyone safe. Thank you. Parent-teacher interviews will be held next week on Wednesday 29th March between 2pm and 7pm for all children in grades Prep – 6. In order to release teachers for these important meetings we would like all children to be collected from school between 1.15 and 1.30pm. You may collect your child from his/her classroom between 1.15pm and 1.30pm without going to the office. Your child’s teacher will complete the early release form. After 1.30pm you will need to complete the Early Release form at the office, find out where your child is located and give the form to the teacher in charge. Children cannot be released prior to 3pm without a parent/carer collecting them and signing the release form. Children who regularly attend After-school care will be accompanied to the FLATS at 2pm. The usual fee will apply. Please advise the office and Tracy if your child will be attending.

Congratulations to our year six student Riley B who competed at the District Swimming Carnival at Werribee Open pool last Thursday. Riley collected two first ribbons for his efforts on the day, competing in the 50m freestyle and 50m butterfly events. A super swimming effort Riley – we are proud of you! Looking forward to seeing you all at the Woodville Fete tomorrow afternoon! Lyn, Nadia and Jodi

3/4 Team News

In Literacy, we have been working on sizzling starts for developing our writing skills. We focused

on engaging the reader from the beginning of the story by using descriptive language.

Below we have some students’ sizzling starts.

3/4A

- Is that a claw playing the piano? Chelsea - Put your hands up? Rosetter

3/4B

- Racing lights flickered to the ground. It was exciting watching the lights but not at the same time because I got a shock. I then realized it was lightning. Cooper

- It was dark and gloomy and suddenly the lights went out. Ashmi 3/4C

- Lightning struck from the dark, cloudy and stormy sky and shone upon the dangerous rough seas. Ohanni

- Lightning flashed from the dark stormy sky. The waves were rough and the boat was rocking. Peyton

3/4D

- Oh my Goodness!! We’re on Mars!! All I can see is a lot of floating Mars bars and a sticky Mars bar floor. Darya

- Ahhh, I woke up in a tree and rolled out and banged my head on the floor. Jorgia

What I’m loving about school…

Measurement

Last week the 1/2 team focused on measurement.

In this topic, the students were using different

units to measure different objects. The students

were introduced to scales, more, less, heavier, lighter, shorter, longer, cm, m,

km, l, ml, kl, mm, mass, capacity, full, empty, length, liquid and solid.

During class time students were introduced to

using a ruler to measure the length and width of

their monsters. The students enjoyed working on

their monsters and loved having them displayed

around the classroom.

5/6 Team News

Senior School Science The 5/6 students have been investigating electrical circuits in an Integrated Studies unit ‘It’s Electrifying’. They explored the possibility whether or not aluminium foil is able to conduct and transfer electricity from batteries in order to light up a lightbulb. The students also researched ‘Alessandro Volta’ the inventor of batteries. Ty 5/6D - ‘We got to learn more hands on stuff rather than writing it all down.’ Bivav 5/6B - ‘It was cool because I didn’t know the aluminium foil could help light up a lightbulb.’

Enrolments Prep 2018

SWIMMING DISTRICT CARNIVAL: 28th February

On the 28th of February a number students travelled with Mr. McBride and Mr. Kyvetos to the Werribee Outdoor Pool to represent Woodville Primary School in the District Swimming Carnival. They did a fantastic job, and came home with many ribbons and even a medal in the championship race. Riley B. even made it through to the next round and will be representing our school again in the Division Championships. Congratulations to everyone that competed!

NEW SCHOOL SPORTS UNIFORM:

As the interschool sports kicked off on Friday, 10th March, two lucky teams hit the courts in our fantastic new sports uniforms. The boys and girls basketball teams were the first to get to wear the great new kit that was purchased with the funds that were kindly donated by SPIIRE. The children and staff love the new look and would sincerely like to thank SPIIRE for supporting our school so generously. Thank you for your support, Wayne McBride Physical Education teacher
