Greetings 4-H Families!
I am so glad that you chose to make 4-H a part of your life. Like all things
right now, 4-H looks different than what we have grown accustomed to.
The COVID-19 pandemic has had huge impacts on our lives. Basic things
like school, work, 4-H, and daily life look completely different. These
changes are stressful for all of us - youth and adults.
My colleagues and I are working hard to offer great 4-H programs
virtually. I am proud of everyone’s efforts to figure out how to shift our
programming. At the same time, I recognize that many families can’t
access virtual programs. Those of you who cannot participate online are
important members of the Wood County 4-H community. If you are
unable to access our virtual programs, please let me know. I am working
on ways to keep 4-H coming your way, too.
I am also proud to partner with the Boys & Girls Club of the Wisconsin
Rapids Area. Extension Wood County and Wood County 4-H are sharing
activities with youth who receive meals from the Boys & Girls Club.
Keep living the 4-H pledge through these challenging times.
HEAD: Keep learning and trying new things
HEART: Show kindness and understanding at home and in your
community
HANDS: Continue to work hard and share as you are able
HEALTH: Take care of yourself to protect both your physical and
mental health
The Extension office may be closed, but we continue to work for you.
Please reach out and let me know how I can continue to support you in
your 4-H development.
Stay well!

COUNTY FAIRS UPDATE The University of Wisconsin – Madison Division of Extension has long been a partner with the county fair.
County fairs have consistently been a venue for educators to deliver programming related to youth
development, community development, agriculture, and family development. Extension and the Wisconsin
Association of Fairs (WAF) have been working closely over the past year and a half to accentuate the
educational opportunities at county fairs.
We have been asked questions about what the current situation means for 4-H member participation and
Extension staff involvement at county fairs. The situation continues to evolve with time and we will share
information as we are able. For the most current information, we encourage you to visit:
https://4h.extension.wisc.edu/extension-fair-faq/
Many thanks to our Wood County 4-H families who answered the call for handmade cloth face coverings!
Last I knew, there were over 300 made and donated thanks to your generosity. Recipients include the
Marshfield Medical Center, the Richfield Volunteer Fire Department, the Marshfield Public Library McMillan
Memorial Library in Wisconsin Rapids.
Would you like to learn how to make cloth face coverings for yourself or others in your community? Check

2020 WOOD COUNTY PLAT BOOK
The 2020 Wood County plat books will be available June 1st!
As the largest fundraiser for Wood County 4-H, we need
everyone’s participation in selling the books and raising money
for our program. For each book sold, your club will receive $5.
The books are $30 and can be purchased at the Extension
Wood County office. We will also be distributing books to
various businesses throughout Wood County, to make them
more accessible. If you know of a business that is willing to sell
them, contact the office and we will work out the details.
Be sure to support the businesses that advertised in the book as
well!

YOUTH MAKE A DIFFERENCE WITH SOCIAL MEDIA The Sheboygan County COVID-19 Youth Action Team announced the launch of a By Youth For Youth
Social Media Campaign to help share factual information regarding COVID-19 and the need for physical
distancing. All youth, from anywhere, are welcome to enter.
Globally, teenagers are the largest demographic of people who struggle (developmentally and physically)
with compliance to the guidelines regarding physical distancing and restricted movement. Help other youth
better understand the risks of COVID-19 and the potential implications of ignoring recommended guidelines.
Develop a Twitter, Snapchat, Instagram, Facebook, Meme or other social media post. This post should:
1) Target youth ages 12-18
2) Share factual Information regarding COVID-19
3) Encourage youth to comply with any one or more of the CDC Recommendations (See CDC COVID-
19 Website at https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/index.html )
4) Motivate youth to action either by sharing the post on their platform or helping their community in
another way!
Use hashtags, keep it brief and use a great visual! First, post it to your personal social media account. Then
screen capture it and send a copy to [email protected]; use Subject: By Youth For Youth COVID-19.

businesses, community leaders, and retired UW-Extension staff who have benefited from, and attribute their
success to 4-H, or those who have made significant contributions of time, energy, and/or resources to the
Wisconsin 4-H Youth Development program on any level.
Any group or individual is eligible to submit a nomination. Find nomination materials at: https://
