Match background• Portugal are making their major tournament debut against neighbours Spain, in a Group D opener followed byanother derby, England v Scotland.

• The Iberian rivals had never met competitively before being drawn together in qualifying for UEFA Women's EURO2017.

• In December 2015 in Badajoz, Spain won 2-0 with first-half goals from Vicky Losada and Sonia Bermúdez.

• In April 2016, Spain then triumphed 4-1 in Covilha. Virginia Torrecilla and Alexia Putellas gave the visitors a 2-0 half-time lead, and although Dolores Silva pulled one back, Amanda Sampedro and Verónica Boquete scored in the lastthree minutes for Spain.

• The teams had previously met twice in friendlies. On 5 February 1994, Spain won 1-0 in Chaves but exactly 11 yearsearlier it was 1-0 to Portugal in La Guardia.

• Portugal's Raquel Infante is based in Spain with Levante.

Team factsSpainEURO 2013: Quarter-finals

EURO best: Semi-finals (1997)

How they qualified: Group 2 winners, W8 D0 L0 F39 A2 Pts24

Coach: Jorge Vilda

One to watch: Jenni Hermoso (forward, Paris Saint-Germain)

What to watch out for: In 2017 Spain have won the Algarve Cup, beaten Belgium 4-1 away and 7-0 at hone, alsodefeated Canada and lost only 2-1 to Brazil. Therefore it is no surprise that many feel this could be the time for Spainto start to match their success at women's youth level in the senior competition, not least as several of those juniortitles were under Jorge Vilda.

Verónica Boquete was a surprise absence from the squad but recent Paris signing Hermoso, her new club-mate IreneParedes and Barcelona's Vicky Losada are among a host of players well capable of performing at the highest level.

PortugalEURO 2013: Fourth in qualifying group

EURO best: First qualification

How they qualified: Group 2 runners-up, W4 D1 L3 F15 A11 Pts13, won play-off v Romania (agg: 1-1, Portugal wonon away goals)

Coach: Francisco Neto

One to watch: Cláudia Neto (midfielder, Linköping)

What to watch out for: All the other finals debutants commenced qualifying in the second tier of seeds, but Portugalwere drawn from Pot 4 and ranked 25th of the 40 competing countries. Even so, they overhauled both the Republic ofIreland and Finland to earn a play-off, beating the latter in a memorable comeback from two goals down, Cláudia Netohitting a hat-trick in a 3-2 triumph.

It was the third time they had been one two-legged tie away from the finals and, despite being held 0-0 at home byRomania, the return fixture ended 1-1 after extra time, a strike from debutant Andreia Norton securing Portugal asurprise EURO place on away goals. While they have experience of facing the elite sides from hosting the annualAlgarve Cup each March, this is a huge step up for the Portuguese, even with a squad containing players with foreignknow-how like Neto, Ana Borges and Ana Leite.
