ClothingClothing• a long dress with a high neck, tight waist and a full skirt

• a cotton petticoat and bloomers underneath

• striped stockings

• hard wearing boots

• a large bonnet to keep of the sun

• when the miners worked for long hours their clothes got worn out

• some people wore boots some wore shoes but most of them couldn’t afford to buy shoes or boots so they had to go barefoot

• many of the women cooked, cleaned, washed the clothes and they also did the ironing

• some women sang and danced on the goldfields.

• a few women were diggers and some were shopkeepers.

• mostly the poor people traveled by walking because they couldn’t afford to buy horses because they were very expensive

• the rich people could travel by horses and carriages

• some people came with donkeys and bullocks because they could carry lots of weight

• usually people used tents and huts covered by bark

• the mattresses that they used were stuffed with leaves

• the miners sat on logs around the camp fire and sang songs because there was no computer or TV's

• the chinese slept in tents but they slept faraway from the other cultures because there was a fence
