The session will highlight the role of Parliaments in ensuring that working environments are more responsive to women’s gendered needs.

Panel Discussion - Setting the Scene: Assessment of gains made and outlining the challenges to creating work environments that are sensitive to women’s needs and gender roles.

The session will take the format of a panel discussion and will seek to use available research to outline the key challenges in creating sensitive work environments as well as the barriers that prevent women from being absorbed into the economy.

Each speaker will be given time to present on innovative ways of changing the world of work for women.

A discussion by all participants will follow the presentations by Panelists

The panel session will focus on pulling the conference themes together by zoning into the role of Parliaments in legislative and oversight activities that address the barriers to women’s effective participation in both the economy and in their world of work. This discussion should include a focus on:

• Legislative review• Parliamentary oversight • The use of international

instruments

The session will also focus on how to build inter-parliamentary relationships in this regard, particularly on the continent.
