distinguish non-military engineering from military engineering.
Women in Engineering-Society
1. World War 1 effects on women in engineering2. Women were pressured to leave jobs so that men could take them
during the war.3. Creation of WES (Women's Engineering Society) to resist these
pressures4. World War 2 effects on engineering5. Women's role was the homemaker6. In contrast, the war offered more opportunities with the shortage
of men in the work force.7. Creation of SWE8. General trend has been more participation in engineering for
women.
Marcus Suzuki
-The general trend has been an increase in earned bachelor's degree
-SWE strives to obtain equality in the work force.

Elsie Eaves' take on Civil Engineering- According to Elsie Eaves, “Civil Engineering is the broad term which defines the work of reorganizing natural or existing physical conditions or forces into structures more useful to man's needs.” - Railways and city roads are a big part of civil engineering
- It is important for woman to not be intimidated by the difficulty of becoming a successful civil engineer

Women Pursuing Civil Engineering as a Career
• Must be on the individual to explore within the field• Demonstrate what women can do
o in Society • Must gather some Technical Skills• Manage Demand at work• "a young woman considering the pursuit of civil engineering
for her livelihood should make sure she possesses an analytical mind, talent for mathematics and science, accuracy in detail, imagination, mental honesty and fairness and a sense of organization” - Elsie Eaves

Questions?1. What do you think about the prospect of oppression encountered
by women in the field of civil engineering throughout history? 2. Is it still the case today? 3. If you were to be unfairly oppressed, what would you do?
