Reservation should not be given to treat them superior; it should be given to help people understand that they are equal. This is because, few communities in India still believe in “female foeticide”. Little do they know that it’s a woman that delivers a man!

Against

If women need to do something for the society and country, there is no need for reservation. Instead of concentrating on reservation, the society can be improved by concentrating on other ethical

issues. There have been many great and famous women in politics that did what they could for society. They didn’t

any special reservation! Women may undoubtedly take advantage of reservation to defend themselves.

Although reservations should be encouraged and Like they say “Great powers come with great responsibility”, it should become a moral responsibility of women to not misuse the same.

Reservation doesn`t mean women are a weaker section. It is not charity also. In fact, it is the first step the government can logically take to make women come forward and unleash their creative power. Once women use their power, the society and generations are empowered.

It`s not out of any belief that men and women are equal that I am venturing out to defend the other gender.

History is witness to men denying women the so-called equality. Our religions, our organisations and all countries have deprived women of their due. Women are suppressed and ill-treated. They are seen only as objects of sex.

Even the so-called lucky elite urban women too feel they are discriminated against since they are not allowed to play a significant role in their offices or in public affairs.

33 pc quota for women? But Why?

We have heard many voices calling for women`s equality with men. And so there are demands for and discussions on women`s quota.

Why do women need reservation? Is it a means to give them equality with men?

Women don`t deserve any quota if it is meant to make them only equals with men. The truth is that women have certain qualities which can eclipse men`s grandeur. Women are superior to men by birth.

Why women matter?

Women create order out of chaos.

They mould generations.

They are empathetic and have vision.

They are less prone to corruption.

And they have innate leadership quality.

These qualities are crucial for bringing about progress and wellness in any society.  And men come nowhere near women in possessing them. And if the society lacks progress and wellness, it is because women have not been allowed to play the role they are created for.

The real power

Men monopolise all spheres of work. And the essential feminine power – the Stree Sakthi – is tied to household works. The chaotic manly power makes a mess of everything while the feminine power, which was created for order, leadership and administration, remains unutilised.

Page 3: Women Empowerment

Men will never willingly give women a chance to rule or play a major role in any fields. This is because men know that the power of women is all-surpassing and hence they want to keep it suppressed.

Many women, who had apparently appeared to be weak, have shown the world how they could bring about a sea change in the systems they are in. For example, when Sonia Gandhi became the president of the Congress, the party was going through a chaotic phase. She had not shown the leadership qualities till then. But Sonia restored the glory of the Congress party with her innate feminine power.

The more the society taps women`s power, the more it will benefit from it. But at the same time, men who enjoy more say in the present situation, don`t want this to happen. It is in this context that the need for reservation for women arises.

Quota is only a means

Quota doesn`t mean women are a weaker section. It is not charity also. In fact, it is the first step the government can logically take to make women come forward and unleash their creative and unifying power for the good of the country. Once women use their power, the society and generations to come are empowered.

As a beginning, 33 percent or such a limited percentage or reservation for women in Parliament or in any job is okay. The reservation will definitely give the society a chance to feel the difference women can make. The percentage should gradually be raised till women get the majority. Only then, the country and each of its citizens will benefit from the power of women.

For more hot debates

So reservation is only a means to break men`s mindset, not an end. Once men realise why women matter, they will let women play the real roles which they are created for.

“Reservation for women is needed to compensatefor the social barriers that have prevented womenfrom participating in politics and thus making theirvoices heard. It is of the opinion that this Bill is acrucial affirmative step in the right direction ofenhancing the participation of women in the Statelegislatures and Parliament and increasing the roleof women in democratization of the country”.Parliamentary Standing Committee Report on theConstitutional (108th

Without the active participation of women and theincorporation of women’s perspectives at all levelsof decision-making, the goals of equality, development and peace cannot be achieved.”-Fourth World Conference on Women.Beijing, 1995: Article 181

In 1993, a constitutional amendment was passed in India that called for a random one third of village council leader, or pradhan, positions in gram panchayat to be reserved for women.[4] The village council is responsible for the provision of village infrastructure – such as public buildings, water, and roads – and for identifying government program beneficiaries. Although all decisions in the village council are made by majority, the pradhan is the only full-time member and exercises significant control over the final council decisions.[5] Recent research on the quota system has revealed that it has changed perceptions of women’s abilities, improved women’s electoral chances, and raised aspirations and educational attainment for adolescent girls.[6]

There is a long-term plan to extend this reservation to parliament and legislative assemblies.[7][8][9]

In addition, women in India get reservation or preferential treatments in education and jobs. Its opposers consider this preferential treatment of women in India as discrimination against them in admissions to schools, colleges, and universities. For instance, several law schools in India have a 30% reservation for females.[10] A segment of feminists in India are strongly in favor of providing preferential precedence to women in order to create a level playing field for all of its citizens.
