Women in the United States• Control more than half of the private wealth in the
U.S.
• Will inherit 70% of the $41 trillion in inter-generational wealth transfer expected over the next 40 years
• Represent 51% of the nation's Ph.Ds, 67% of college graduates and more than 70% of 2012's valedictorians
• The top women wealth holders have combined assets of over $4.6 trillion
Women in the United States
• More than 165 women’s funds worldwide
• Women in the U.S. give an average of 3.5% of their wealth to charity, while men give an average of 1.8%
• Women donate almost twice as much to charity as men at nearly every income level
• 87% of wealthy women surveyed, but 78% of the men, said they volunteered regularly
Women in Developing Countries
• Approximately 510 million illiterate women worldwide: two-thirds of the total number of illiterate people
• Approximately 16.5 million women living with HIV/AIDS worldwide: 50% of the total number.
• About 140 million girls and women worldwide currently living with the consequences of FGM/C
• Every minute, at least one woman dies from complications related to pregnancy or childbirth – that means 287,000 women a year
In Rwanda
• Only 12% of youth 15-24 have comprehensive knowledge about HIV/AIDS
• An estimated one-third of all HIV infections in Rwanda occur among pregnant women
• 41.2% of women aged 15-49 have experienced violence since the age of 15; and 22% of these were classified as sexual violence
