WOMEN'S DIVISION NEWSLETTER Spring 2019
Are You Ready To Tee it up…
... fore the 2019 Season?
MESSAGE FROM BETTY Hello Golfers:
With the sun and warmer temperatures we were successful in kicking off the 2019 season with our
scramble and semi-annual meeting. Sixty-Eight members braved the cold! It was great seeing many
returning players choosing our lovely Ken-Wo golf course! Thank-you for participating and bringing your
fun spirit/camaraderie to the recreational/competitive golf program that we so enjoy!
Jane Cayford and Debbie Boutilier, on behalf of the executive, prepared a survey and solicited your
feedback in March. We received excellent feedback from over 80 members…..great response! Thanks for
completing it and we will share the results. The Match Committee have been working hard and have
many fun activities planned for our Thursday days of play. This year we have new golf rules. Around
twenty people, took the opportunity to attend the Rules clinic on April 27 with Head Professional Derek
MacKinnon. This was very informative!
We hope you will have fun, participating in our Club Championship on August 10 and 11th. Linda Durling
and myself are co-chairing this event and we encourage all members to enter.
This year we have initiated a Mentorship program for new and returning members. Mentors have been
assigned to orientate new members to our club, allowing them to have a smooth transition to our
programs.
On May 28th , the Valley Seniors have invited our membership as well as women from other clubs to
participate in the Valley Seniors program. We look forward to meeting other Valley women and senior
men. Those interested please sign up. We are hoping for an excellent turnout from our Ken Wo women!
I want to thank the following people: Debbie Sutherland – reporting of provincial/national results of our
Ken-Wo women; Beth Lloyd – Chair of the Scramble Fore Cancer Care (your Division’s only fundraising
event); and Cheryl Hawboldt – Handicap Chairperson. We are so fortunate to have one of the most active
clubs in the province and much of this success is due to the members who volunteer……. help out
whenever they can. It is so greatly appreciated! Having said that we need members to volunteer for the
executive positions. Many of you have various skills to fill the Vice President position which is vacant.
Next year we will need other positions. Stayed tuned for more information to follow!
To all members of the Women‘s Division, as an executive, we look forward to coordinating the season’s
events and playing many rounds of golf with you! Enjoy and if you need to reach us you can email at
[email protected]. Enjoy the season!

MESSAGE FROM MATCH COMMITTEE Cathy Coates, Noreen MacGregor and Patti Sheehy are this season’s Match Committee,
with assistance from Linda Nette (9-hole draws), Linda Durling (Match play) and Cheryl
Hawboldt (Handicap Chair).
This season’s prizes on Thursdays are similar to last year: $5 gift certificates for the dining
room – a great way to support our Food and Beverage operation. Most weeks there will be
two random draws as well as a variety of skill-testing prizes, like putting, chipping, fairways
hit on your tee shot. Our objective is to make it fun and challenging for everyone and we
would like everyone to have a chance to win, so we are encouraging everyone to keep a
scorecard and turn it in at the end of the round.
Thank you to everyone for their helpful comments on the recent survey. Many of you indicated you would like
to see more mixing up of the draws. This is always top of mind when we do the draws, and it is challenging to
keep track of who has played with whom, while juggling the schedule and personal requests. We are working
on ways to get better at it and welcome your suggestions.
Special Cart Price on Thursdays: Thanks to Rene and the Pro shop staff, we have a special deal on carts again
on Thursdays. You pay for a seat on the cart, not the whole cart, so everyone pays the same, whether you ride
as a single or a double. Not only is this a great price, it also means that Match has more flexibility to make up
the draws because we don’t need to worry about always doubling up carts. The rate is $8.50 for 9-holes and
$17 (or one ticket) for 18-holes.
As a courtesy to our hardworking Pro Shop Staff and the Starter, if you need to cancel, we would like to stress
the importance of calling the Pro Shop as soon as possible.
Have a great season, Cathy, Noreen and Patti.

HOLE-IN-ONE
Congratulations to Debbie Sutherland on her hole-in-one. Well done, Debbie
SCRAMBLE FOR CANCER CARE Beth Lloyd reports that the Scramble Fore Cancer Committee has been working hard to provide an
excellent day on June 15th. The good news is that it is full but there is a waiting list so if you have not
registered your team put your name in. As in the past it is sure to be a fun day of golf. Again many
businesses have donated to the cause, helping to support the Annapolis Valley Cancer Navigation
Program.
How Can you help…..glad you asked ….. If anyone would like to donate to the silent auction, your gifts will
be greatly appreciated. Leave them with Brandy. Buy a raffle ticket …. or two … these tickets are for sale
on Thursday Women’s day. Again, all monies raised helps.
