Syllabus 201314 Biology Accelerated Instructor: Mrs. Karen Wolfe Required Materials: Textbook Biology Concepts and Connections Seventh Edition Neil A. Campbell Three ring binder (at least 1 inch thick) Folder Pen, Pencil, Paper, Goggles (to be kept in classroom) Chrome Book Headphones (earbuds) Course Description, Goals, and Objectives: Students will learn the Processes of scientific inquiry through reading, laboratory investigation, computer and other activities, class discussions, and assignments. Students will participate in active hands on learning. Biology Accelerated is a two semester year long course. Biology Accelerated is an introductory Biology class designed for high achieving students. Units of study: The Brain and Learning Introduction to Scientific method and Biology Ecology and Plants Biochemistry Cells and cellular processes DNA and Protein Synthesis Genetics Genetic Technology and Bioinformatics Evolution Human Body Systems Dissection of the Pig There will be Major projects and Assignments for each unit of study including summative assessments, formal lab write ups, and long term research projects. Academic dishonesty policy: “Students are expected to complete all tests and assignments honestly and will not collaborate in dishonest actions. Students will not give or accept answers or assignments unless directed to by the teacher. Students caught cheating or plagiarizing will be subject to discipline as stated in the Student Handbook, pg. 37.” SIS Portal information Please check the student portal for information regarding assessments and grades.
