Katrinasrust Trout Farm has been in the Brewer family for over
60 years, originally belonging to Eric Brewer's grandfather,
Vernon. Eric took over the business in 1954 when he returned to
South Africa with his family. In 1990, Tim Brewer, who had
previously been working in exploration geology, returned to
Katrinasrust with his wife, Lesley-Anne, and their three children
to help his father run the trout business. Up until recently the
farm produced in excess of 50 tonnes of fish per annum and
largely dealt in live deliveries of trout to the local area and
Mpumalanga province. More recently, however, the emphasis
has gone over to recreation and Tim and Lesley-Anne have
been working on developing the property as a haven for people
wanting to escape to the country for some peace and quiet.
Taking on this new direction for the farm is their daughter,
Alice, and her fiancé, Graeme, who moved back to Katrinasrust
at the end of 2018.
There are two cottages, each offering a little something
different.

The Retreat is a Victorian farmhouse set in 560ha of the
beautiful Groenfontein Valley Conservancy, bordering
on the 129 000ha Swartberg Nature Reserve.
Your Hosts, Grant and Marie, enjoy treating guests to

Swartvlei Equestrian Estate offers 5 self-catering cottages as well as a Manor house, and is situated

The Farm is situated just outside of Patensie, about 100km west of PE, in
an area known to the locals as Bean se Bos, named after the family
Bean who first owned the four farms in the Valley, bordering on the
Stinkhout Reserve which is part of Baviaans Kloof.
The Valley is unique in its diversity. On the South facing slope and lower
reaches of the valley you'll find indigenous forests sporting our National
tree the Real Yellowwood, as well as Yellowwood, Stinkhout, Ironwood,
Wild Chestnut and Wild Fig just to name a few. On the upper reaches of
the North facing slope you'll find giant Cycads, many varieties of Aloe
and Acacia and Spekboom. There are also patches of Weeping Boer-
Bean and Milkwood. The differences are highlighted by the luscious
ferns growing next to the river and huge tracts of fynbos on the upper
mountain slopes. The wildlife and bird life is as amazing and diverse as
the environment they live in.

11 Karkloof is a rustic old Mushroom Farm in the beautiful KZN Midlands,
only 6.5km from Howick, set in prime farmland of the Karkloof valley. The
buildings have been renovated and transformed into unique self-catering
units, which accommodate 51 people in the 2 houses and 5 cottages and
one converted mushroom tunnel, known as 'The Apartment'.
The farm has undergone several changes over the last three decades,
more recently Ex-mushroom farmer, architect and artist, Nic Crooks, has
transformed the growing tunnels into a unique architectural experience.
The converted tunnels are used as artisanal workspaces. Guests now
